Recently the CA ban on high capacity mags has been ruled unconstitutional by I think a Federal Court. Their decision was based on it being so difficult to get a firearm without the HCM that it infringes upon the 2A. Ears tuned in to see if it is appealed and if so when it gets heard by the SCOTUS. At that point if the SCOTUS rules in favor or 2A rights the rest of the states should follow suit quickly. Remember the SCOTUS ruled the ACA couldn't impose a "tax" on those not having health insurance. Now with the SCOTUS being a conservative majority I'm not too concerned anything will happen. Now, if I could just get some primers.... https://www.abajournal.com/news/article/9th-circuit-rules-californias-ban-on-high-capacity-magazines-violates-the-second-amendment

earlier this year , when all things guns went crazy on price and availability.. I simply shut my closet door, hybernated most of my larger caliber range time, pulled the lil 22 stuff out and kept on with that. but I also watched my music concert industry folks suffering and selling gear on the cheap..so I turned my focus away from chasing a gun or box of ammo, and picked up some very very good deals on some pro audio gear that I'd been wanting to add to my stage rigs..now, that biz remains shuttered right now mostly too of course, but I'm good to sit on it, cause it's not my source of income..it's my side-biz as part of my longer term retirement years planning..so it's ok that the audio trailer stays shuttered for a while. to get my mind off of the negatives of the world news, I've enjoyed more hobby time around the holidays to do things like long overdue mainteance and repairs on my old Lionel trains...tradition is for me to have several running around the christmas tree and the grandkids LOVE playing with them. right now I'm not "restoring" but I am refurbishing my dad's 90 yr old Lionel prewar tinplate..fresh wires, solder, dremel tool time to get old rust n oxydation off the wheels etc...it won't ever look shiney new...not my intent..it's a treasure with many miles of play on it through his life, and mine...and it'll be a tribute to have it doing some laps around the tree this season. then I'll put it back on display and let the kids play with my 1950s stuff and even some more recent MTH gear that I don't worry about getting scratched. lil bit of honda Trail90 work on tap as well...and the boys (son and son in laws) have really been after me to get back into some video gaming..new VR setup is coming in Santa's bag..so I'll be nerding out to some Star Wars Squadrons in 3D VR...you'd think a guy that just turned 64 would grow up...nope!

Look for an 08 Foreman TRX500FM. foot shift, without power steering, in camo. They run about $4K. TRX500FPM is OK too — power steering is one more thing to worry about tho

76-79 were narrow axles, automatic was a TH400 with quadratrac, manual transmissions had a Dana 20 transfer case (good) and came with either a T150 3 speed (good) and a T18 4 speed (best). The good thing about the early Jeep is no smog crap and you could get a 304 V8. 80-81 you could get a V8, but you rarely see them, and they had a Dana 300 transfer case, which was great, except on those years only they had a short tailshaft that was weaker than the later Dana 300's (transfer case shifter has a dogleg at the top). Still good Jeeps. Automatic was a Chrysler 999 (good), manuals were an SR4 (curved shifter, reverse is up to the left, and these transmissions were boat anchors and should be avoided at all cost), and a Tremec T176, which are good medium duty 4 speeds with a straight shifter. 82-86 you got wider axles (increased stability), but you'll have to remove all the 80's smog crap that is a nightmare. No V8. Transfer cases were super strong Dana 300's, transmissions were TF999 for automatic (good), T4 or T5 manual transmissions (curved shifter, reverse is down to the right) which were crap, and the T176 which is a 4 speed with a straight shifter. All of mine are 85's.

I would pass on all 3 personally. The foreman because of the water modifications. Price is only ok. It has been in deep water and likely not serviced correctly afterward. The 420s are alright but both are WAY too much money even though they are low hours. 6k for a 420 is out-of-control IMO. 2k maybe 2500 USD for one in very good stock condition. Wait for a 500 Forman ideally but something under 3k

I just hope my 22 can comes before the commies take over in DC....if it happens. I'm still holding on to hope that the rampant fraud will actually have consequences for those involved. In the meantime my can application is with the ATF. Could be a month, could be a year, could be never. I recently picked up a couple of old Bair shotgun reloaders. Haven't set them up yet. I also expanded into 300BLK, picking up a Remington 700 in 223 on clearance at Wallyworld ($199), rebarreling to an Advanced Armament Co threaded barrel in 300BLK ($99 plug $100 for the install), sold the 223 barrel for $120, and got a Nikon 2.5-10 Prostaff for $54 (also a wallyworld closeout). Then I discovered that 300BLK is unobtainium now, so I bought dies and will have to make my own out of 223 cases, so going to have to get the Rockchucker out again. But yeah, dark times for the 2nd Amendment and the liberty that it protects.

Yeah, the other hobbies. When I retired my home office became my reloading area. I could even open the window behind the desk and test loads out to 50 yards. This was my wintertime sanity keeper. This time every year we'd set up two presses and start loading Christmas presents for one son. He likes to unload 30 rd mags as fast as he can on his AR when he comes to visit so each year he gets 500 rds of .223 for Christmas. Not this year, I'm afraid. My primer supply is down to 6,000 split evenly between small rifle and large rifle. Problem is I use small rifle primers much more often than the large. I even use the CCI 400s for the 9mm. For 22LR, I'm good for busting up dirt clods and tin cans but my target ammo is almost gone. I was just about to get another case of CCI Standard Velocity when the SHTF so I'm down to about a brick of that. One of my 9mm has a 22 conversion kit so I'm able to keep somewhat in practice. You know what's sad is if asked, many of us would say we don't have the ammo reserves we'd like to have but if the media found out a quarter of what many of us had on hand they would flip their lid and call us all sorts of unpopular names. Last month the reloading equipment got boxed up and put away for better days. Another hobby I've had for many years is remote control aircraft and building plastic models. Since some of the quad flyers have ruined the RC hobby for anyone that flies anything I don't fly my planes as much as I used to so it's back to building plastic airplane models for a winter pastime. This week is gun season in Ohio so 4wheeling in the woods isn't the nicest thing to do to the hunters on adjoining lands so that's out this week.

W1209 FAHRENHEIT !!! Yup that's right! I just found some genuine W1209 STM8S003F3P6 PCBs that are programmed in fahrenheit, so of course I ordered some of them to test for temp tracking accuracy! Lets go boys.... 🧐 Digital Temperature Controller FAHRENHEIT This is the 32764 MP PDF datasheet converted to a .png image. Note that this datasheet lists the temp range specification in error... the correct temp range spec is -58° F to +230° F. Here is a link to a youtube video of the W1209F (32764 MP): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WBLyAO9r3Tg Stay tuned for more!

Water leak Cat D3 , hooked the pressure tester to the radiator , not only the was the radiator leaking , the bearing went out on the water pump and the plastic fan hit the shroud and piece of plastic put a hole in the radiator , that radiator and hydraulic cooler was clogged up bad , at least there is no signs of a cracked head or blown gasket , didn't see any pressure on the tester and used a combustion gas detector on the radiator before taking it apart ----- that crew works 4/10s so I was by myself , got that radiator / cooler in my truck and that nose laid over by myself ---------- got the radiator to the Radiator Shoppe before they closed , parts ordered thru Cat , looks like a Tuesday job Looking at that radiator grill which is 1/4 metal , it is amazing there wasn't a hole in the front of the radiator

youd be amaised at some of the wood crafts in that thread, all in all it's a great threat, should be listed as a favorite on anyone's list. i did a few plastic models myself in my younger days ...( i built one cat dozer i customized took blue ribbon at model convention. i made the mistake of selling it) . painted all detailed up with back grounds and all, i never did try a model air plane, but had some fun with remote controled units, but on the farm, they didnt last too long, lol. but, some of the ones out not are pretty nice gas powered units .... high in price.

We got a hobby thread also , I have had planes , crashed, lost and sold them , still have a awesome remote control boat from when I was 18 years old , 87mph on a member at the pond State Trooper radar , also have a couple of remote Jeeps

Well I got into some 24” white and green ash today. The ol ms290 got worked pretty hard with the 20” bar buried. Posted my 310 for sale and stopped at my ma and pop stihl shop. ordered a brand spanking new ms400c pro saw. Due to release in January and available for purchase in March. They said I’d get the first one they receive. 66.7 cc. 5.4 hp. 25” stihl es light bar. Full chisel and semi skip chain. Magnesium piston. Weighs less than 13.5 lbs. m-tronic carb. can’t wait. It’s the new step between the ms362 and 462. https://www.stihl.com/STIHL-power-tools-A-great-range/Chainsaws/Petrol-chainsaws-for-forestry/2107810-131/MS-400-C-M.aspx

No idea on the newer ones. The older 420's tended to have a weak 4th gear, crappy rear ends, and the fuel pump/fuel filters can give you fits.
  27. 1 point
Yeah Scramblers have gotten high. Most snub the 4 cylinders, but the 4 cylinder CJ's usually had 4.10's in the diffs. Buying a I6 and swapping it in is cheap and easy. Regearing two diffs isn't. Here's Dad's 85 Scrambler. Base model, 258 with T176. Has a hair under 5K miles on it now.
  28. 1 point
That should be a good one. Only weak spot is 1st gear, and it's usually fine unless the machine has been abused. Might be able to have the meter fixed, or you could buy a used one for $100 or less. Still high as !. I sold my recently rebuilt 08 Foreman with PS for $3K a month or so ago.

The top one is likely rusted out. When you see rocker plates like that they're ALWAYS covering up rust. The 79, if an automatic, will have a TH400 and quadratrac. Full time 4wd, and they don't hold up well unless they have been meticulously maintained over the years. Quadratrac is a chain drive transfer case and the chains are bad about stretching on them. CJ's aren't hard to work on, but you absolutely do not want to buy one that has rust. If you can see rust, that means there is a lot that you cannot see. Look for a faint line of spot welds along the sides right above the rear wheel wells. If it's smooth, you have covered up rust/bodywork. Rockers rust out. Front fenders will rust from the inside out. Rear frame rails rust out between the rear axle and the back of the Jeep. I would not recommend a CJ unless you have another good dependable daily driver. I love my Jeeps, but they aren't fun to daily drive.

Same as my father-in-law's two Arctic Cat 300's. Those things had some awesome options. Disc brakes all around, IRS, selectable high/low/super low range, and selectable 2wd, 4wd, 4wd with front diff lock. That said, they are a major PITA to work on. I had to replace the starter gears in one of my FIL's machines and it was a major ordeal. Had to disassemble half the bike to get it done. Leaky carb drains downhill into the crankcase, filling it full of gas. New OEM carb is about $500. I tried polishing the seat and adding a new OEM float needle ($40) and it still leaked. As Sam said, parts are $$$, although Honda seems to be moving towards that now too, after historically having the cheapest OEM parts of any of the big brands.

Ironic the 2nd came up in this discussion ..... a new assault on the 2nd Amendment begins today , read an article this morning that the president elect said guns are a " health crisis that needs to be addressed immediately " , Corona is going to be used as the next stepping stone to ban guns ---- the next 4 years is going to be tuff

pretty much sums it up Sierra. I'm sure there will be many approaches to gun control in the coming couple years here. wish it weren't the case, but I had always figured we'd see things swing back towards the Clinton era ban..either because of a bad social shooting (nother Sandy Hook kind of thing) or just a major power shift in our govt. Stocked as much as I thought was reasonable..and then stocked more...happy with what's on hand, and grateful to the "me" of the last several years that went ahead and filled the extra 50cal cans, and bought extra mags. Able to turn my attention towards other hobbies right now instead of chasing boxes of bullets.

wow! not bad, jugs been painted, exhaust heat shield, rear brake backing plate rear chunk, kick starter, most likely the complete engine / transfer case, looks like it's been well taken care with some custom painting done , the rear trunk rack nylon bushing are gone, and 12 volt a accessory plug boot, I'd like to see the front end, no exhaust rust on the back end... nice find jeep.

I think I'd better learn whether the fake PCBs are as fully functional as the genuine PCBs with the ST Micro chips are, or not, so supply can meet the demand for these gizmos. I imagine the STM boards are all sold by now and I only got a few of those left on hand. I think I have four fakes... might have to swap STM chips onto them if they don't work like they should.

i agree ^^ I'd have no problem with questionable payback. out of all the stories of people having item stolen semper, fishes friend, you, myself, shade, m_quick, wheeler and who ever else, no one has had any luck recovering there stolen property, i can just imagine what quick is dealing with on that custom honda. falling back to insurance might just pay some, but it will not replace the actual item, but just cash, I'm my book, I'd rather have my property back! if my bike was stolen, I'd have no chance of replacing it, nor find one like it.

Got the new Rick's CDI installed and it fired right up , sounds great ----- wasted about 15 minutes pulling out the heat gun and trying to get the CDI out of the hardened rubber cushion , I had a new cushion in hand , so wasn't going to bust up my hands and waste daylight , cut the old one off with a razor knife and stick the new one in , cutting it and getting the old one out took about 2 minutes , hardest part is unplugging it ------- Changed the oil and filter , aired the tires , checked the air filter , greased the ball joints and tie rod ends , took it for a ride , was about to wash it and it was getting dark , so that can wait Problems to solve : --------------------------- rear brake arm sticking , soaked it in Aero-Kroil and worked it , soaked it again and let it set front brake master cylinder plunger stuck in one front light not working and has been flooded by-pass the reverse lock , if I am going to do yard work with this one , reverse lock has to go make a hose rack for the sprayer hose or cut 15 ft off You shouldn't let then ATVs sit up , worst thing for them
