LOL, didn't see the post date. I am getting caught up on this site. I haven't been here much because all the covid talk mixed up with dooms days predictions turned me off quite a bit. I'm very conservative but I've learned to not get scared and allow the worst case scenarios get in my head. They did several times thru the decades and I've learned one thing.......most if not all the bad predictions are just plain false.........it gives me a stomach ache to hear my conservative friends get all worked up. Sorry for venting but I felt it needed to be said.

I was a little hard on you 'Monkey , sorry if I fluffed your fur >>> Shoot , " it'll buff out " >>> I think I suffer from Geometrical OCD , everything needs to be in it's proper place , when I looked at that cut it sent shock waves thru my entire body , I am going to have bad dreams tonight of a band of flying monkey with a Dremel cut on my atv plastics , LOL

Wonder' , I got to say the truth , that looks like crap , I can't believe you done that to your brand new atv --- you had the right tool , but used the wrong accessory , the Dremel with a spiral bit would have done a very clean job , you just need to be very careful , cause it will jump when the rotation is working the wrong way , if that makes any sense , for instance , if you where cutting a circle in plastic with a spiral bit , one side of the circle will cut smooth as silk and the tool is easily controlled , but the other side of that circle will take a firm grip as it will want to jump ---should have practiced first ----if your Dreemel is not a variable speed model and is electric , you can get a speed controller that plugs in between the tool and the power supply , slowing the tool down some makes it more controllable I think I would recut it to get rid of that bad edge , go a little over size and maybe take some rubber hose , slice it length wise and stick it over the edge to dress it up , glue the hose on with some weather stripping if needed

ok , that seems to happen even in 2wd ------- my wife's 300 had Outlaws which have side cup threads , she was still getting the bars jerking her arms even in 2wd , switched the tires to SwampLites and she liked it better , will still happen but not as much That lever right in front the tank disconnects 4wd

My fur is now unfluffed. I spent some time in the dryer with an anti-static sheet, all good now. I generally like order, but when my incompetency at a skill arrives I work hard to "let it go, man" and I do. I suggest you avoid my posts when I run the wire for this winch, that may explode your head like that old movie, Scanner.

Here is the progression of my first attempt at cutting some plastics. Remember, it's under my atv so I wasn't worried about messing up as I could clean it, as I did. Far Left: On the left is showing the plastic hitting the wiring post. Even if I just notched for the wiring post the winch would be hit. Middle: Raw and not dusted off. You can see where some of went "ok", and others got away from me a bit. I did take the advice from several people (thanks!) but I clearly messed up here and there. I didn't clean it up (at that time). A fellow member, @_Wilson_™, suggested I put it here to show people what happens if you go the wrong speed, use the wrong bit, etc. I thought that was a good idea and put it. I used several different bits (cutter, grinder, sander, spiral) to see what they would do. Some of my experimentation had nasty results, but again, it was underneath so I was ok with it. Far Right: I cleaned it up as far as I'm going to. I COULD have removed more plastic to get the lines to be better, but that would just to be for the sake of aesthetics, and I decided to not do that. No sharp corners or burrs exist, and in the end it turned out "ok". Summary: I'm not necessarily proud of how it turned out, but I did overcome my apprehension of cutting on my brand new atv, and got it done. It's functional.

I'm guilty of that @Misterclean, but every time I do it, it ends up being a big nothingburger. I'm trying to just relax and live my life, and stay prepared as best as I can for whatever comes.

This examination via you tube is getting interesting. I hope too many worms don't get out of the can. It is important to strongly consider that two or three things are happening here. The running problem is almost certainly a carb problem. I would do the total carb job as already suggested but I would also drain the fuel tank and inspect it just to be absolutely sure. Disassemble the petcock too. The intermittent sound may be some sheet metal on the heat shield or something similar. I can't imagine what it could be on the inside that could make an intermittent sound like that. Obviously we aren't there in person so our intuition is limited. I'm almost certain I heard cam chain slap. Slap can vary in it's sounds because of the harmonics involved and with the thump of the engine. I'm almost certain it's harmonics causing the tin sound coming and going too. We are anxiously waiting for your next action.......well I am/ LOL

I remember my Mom use to say , " I never seen nobody wear out shoes like you , I need to bring you to a foot doctor cause that isn't normal ", I learned to ride wheelies on my Honda CT70 by dragging my feet , ate up some shoes learning - I could ride a wheelie for a mile after learning how ----

It sounded like the chain was slapping. I shouldn't be able to hear it that loudly regardless of the idle speed. In fact a loping idle helps identify a loose chain. Again, I can't be sure of anything. I'm just giving my opinion after 37.5 years of professional experience. Hope this helps.

Why don't you tell us how you really feel Fish! I've messed up more stuff with a dremel than I've fixed with a dremel. They look all small and you think you can get that job done quickly with one, then you grind/cut and screw up what you're working on. The bright side is, I'll bet that plastic part you're grinding on is cheap @WonderMonkey. My approach now is to make it functional, buy an extra part in case I ever want to make it pretty again, and then not worry about how my mods look. Over time I've realized that my ATV's stay covered in mud most of the time anyway, so who cares if it looks perfect? That used to drive me nuts, so I started hoarding parts, so know I know that I have replacements in the shop if/when I want to make it look pretty again. That tamps that OCD down real nice.

I put the cdi in the oven and that didn’t work. That looks like the same schematic I’ve been working from. I watched a video from RM stators and he said tha the cdi is either ac or dc not both. Can’t understand why the gray wire would have 12v on it and 55vac on the black/red wire if you only need ac or dc. I’m currently looking for an OEM cdi

Was waiting for the grass to dry to try out the new bagger and I got a late job yesterday , left home about 11:00 got home 1 minute before official sunset @5:22 , still had 20 minutes of light so got to try it out First impression , it is awesome , works much better than the MTD lawn tractor bagger , 99.9% of the leaves are sucked up and is twice as fast , and it has this spinner thing that monitors how full the bags are , and it seems to work well , I stop in perfect time so it wasn't over flowing or clogged up the chute , if I pack the leaves down , all 3 bags will just barely fit and overflowing in a 55 gallon burn barrel Was thinking about selling the MTD lawn tractor , but , don't think i would not get much for it and having a spare / back up might be a good idea

On the second video , it sounds to me like metal on metal and it is loud , maybe lack of lubrication ? -----

Not yet... but we may migrate our site onto Xenforo in a couple months which will have a PWA app that should work on all phones. Androids will be able to get push notifications too, without installing any other apps.

This what I’ve been working from. I will try the oven trick. The cdi I bought is a China knockoff.

I would go with a full refresh on the carb since its 17 years old now. So a full disassembly & inspection, a thorough cleaning (a soak in Berrymans, scrub parts & passages with brushes etc.) like @Goober does with 'em, with a gasket kit and reassembly to factory specs as the service manual outlines. Its your call...

I purchased a Dremel type device and just a bit ago I removed the part of the plastics that was preventing me from reattaching my plastic. I also left a bit of room for the wiring to come through. As you can see in the below photo, some of the cutting was clean, and some wasn't. As others have mentioned, if you use the wrong speed you can get a bit melty, and that's what happened at the bottom. Since this was my first time and nobody (other than this forum, as I was told!) was going to see it, I played around with the speed. You can see the part that I got wrong. If this was a visible piece, I would not have experimented and would have even taped off the area to prevent some of those random marks where the roto-drill had a mind of its own. Tomorrow, I'll use the grind wheel and drum sander and clean the edges up. Even though it looks like !, it worked well and got the job done. Thanks to all those that helped out in this thread.

many reasons ..... those above ^^^^ plus less drivetrain wind up, (on pavement) you can use the brakes (front and rear) independently of each other, another big plus is it's completely mechanical. none of those push button electrical issues. IMO the best simple mod a man can do to a 4wd 300.

My brother in law just bought a 2009 TRX 420, for $3,200. Very clean, power steering, electric shift, 2wd, very nice wheels and tires. I'd do that any day over a new chinese wheeler for the same price.

What are you calling a 'steering bump " ? Steering being easier isn't really what I like best about the 424 , another thing that is fun is being able to rag it in 2wd ,throw 2wd rooster tails do quick slide arounds and donuts , but , the best thing is seeing how far I can push it before I "need" to lock it into 4wd

It took 2 1/2 hours to install the bagger kit , I could see after doing one it could take a lot less time , included was a trip to the hardware store as I was shorted one carriage headed bolt , another slow down was the instructions , the kit came with brackets and hardware for two different rear bumper guards , but did not go into detail about not using some parts , and another page of instructions was in another bag hidden under a Cancer causing product in California card , there were two bolts and two self locking nuts in the bag and instructions on where a plate went , must have been the plastic insert on the nut that is hazardous The grass is covered in dew , so have to wait till this evening when it dries out to try it out

Hey Guys, I’m an experienced mechanic and have always been quite successful with electrical and electronics. I got a 1987 TRX125 for trade for some labor. This quad has not been modified and I was told that it just stopped running one day. This thing has no spark. I will try to give you the information that I have collected. I have replaced the coil and cdi and spark plug. I have checked all the wires for continuity from end to end. Pulled the cover and ohmed out the stator. The blue/yellow wire at the cdi has 300 ohms to ground and fluctuates while cranking The black/white wire is open and grounds when using the kill switch in either direction The gray wire has 12v with ignition on The black/red wire has 55vac cranking with the starter, 125v when pull starting The green/white wire is open to ground and no voltage The black/yellow wire at cdi no voltage, open to ground The black/yellow wire at the coil has -4vdc key on and cranking the dark green wire at the coil is grounded i have grounded the reverse switch and left it open and it makes no difference The neutral light is on and the reverse light is out I’m guessing I’m missing something simple or do I have a bad pulse generator? Thanks in advance for the help

The copper gasket #1 where the header bolts up might be loose CAREFUL don’t simply overtighten and break off the header studs! Also #10 the header muffler joint could be leaking. no don’t boil the carb very harsh way to treat it. you have to inspect it first to see what might be causing problems. When i clean a carb i never boil it. I clean off the outside of a carb with Deep Creep and toothbrushes first. Then soapy water to remove the oil being careful not to get anything in the carb. During disassembly you’re looking for damaged seals, missing parts, jet obstructions, etc. i clean the body first, then the bowl, then the little parts. Trying to avoid getting dirty fluid into the tiny body passages—especially that primer passage. I would only soak a carb body or bowl in clean fluid — yes genuine Shindy in the package or Honda OEM gasket kit. OEM primer plunger and choke valve.

i hear the little man with the hammer too, clear as a bell. in the last part of the forth video, (1st page) it does seem to get louder, at one point. could be movement of the camra... Edit: also in the second video (3rd page) at one point it's intermittent.

I have a cabinet above my fridge in the garage. On top of the fridge I have things stacked, paper towels, etc. Three weeks ago I was clearing some things out and looked in the cabinet. In there was a circular saw, jigsaw and a router that I've been missing for several years. So .... it appears as if I can't trust myself to find things I own, but don't use regularly. But I may buy a dremel.

You need to "justify" buying tools? lol I have so many tools I have only used once and some I haven't yet. I see something I think I might need and then it's justified.

Good day at the brush dump. Mostly ash but found some rounds of red oak someone missed. The new trailer works great. I figured a full cord in there.
