I finally got some resolution from both insurance companies. Mine yesterday said they would waive the deductible now that the other party's insurance has accepted liability for the accident. Wife's vehicle still isn't expected to make it to the shop until tomorrow. Called State Farm back to pin them down on what they would and would not reimburse me for as far as a rental, and the woman I spoke with said "Well your wife wasn't at fault, and since she had a 7 seat SUV we will need to approve her a 7 seat SUV." I replied with thank you (of course) and then said I didn't want to offend her, but would she possibly provide that in writing given that I was going to be on the hook for a couple of thousand in rental fees. Her reply was "Well how about I just book the vehicle for you?" So drove the wife over to North Mississippi this morning at dawn, and she's in a Toyota Sequoia until either she gets her car back, or we return from our trip. The woman at State Farm said she would note that we would be out of town, and that if the wife's car is ready before we get back, that they would still cover the rental until our return. So I guess ALL insurance people aren't bad. Just most of them. At least we have that behind us now just in time for our trip.

I couldn’t see your left side case very well but if yours is also an early 86 engine—then your starter should fit on this replacement. also your blown up engine can be a parts donor. Keep all the parts it’s not junk. like Shadetree said you can’t buy this stuff anymore

Hey I’m Jared I am currently trying to get my 86 trx 350cc 4x4 rebuilt . I found a engine but the owner told me two different years first was 89 now he’s saying 86 . He owns a local shop and wants $400 cad for the engine but I’d like to know how to tell if it’s a 86 or 89 . Thanks in advance

Went to a lake in Tennessee this weekend. While out on the boat we were floating around in the water when it started to rain, for the 3rd or 4th time. When the rain started to come down a bit harder we floated under the front of the pontoon boat to continue ..... floating. Cue thunder. My brother, brother-in-law and myself head to the side of the boat to get out of the water. The BIL was out and my brother was on the ladder. I had hold of the side of the boat moving to the ladder. My brother and I both suddenly felt a current go through us from the water to the boat (and probably back to the water), or maybe the other way around. It wasn't a light buzz, nor was it enough to seize up my body, but it WAS enough to REALLY feel it and jolt the body and make me have to re-grab the boat. My brother stayed on the ladder but probably because he was already gripping it. We felt the jolt then heard the sound (of course), and it wasn't at an alarming volume, so it was a bit of distance away. We got out of the water a bit quicker. Water is a poor conductor, but when you load it up with lightening, or a downed power line, etc. enough gets to you to get the job done. Well .... PURE water is an insulator, but since a lake isn't anything close to pure water, we can put it at "poor conductor".

Twice I got hit at the boat launch , the worst time I had just walked out the water from cranking up the boat , I was barefoot and feet were wet , had blisters on the bottoms of my feet for a month

Let me share a little secret with you , if your out in the woods with your 300 and the battery goes low and won't turn the engine over , some times instead of kicking it , you engage the decompression lever and hit the start button and if your bike starts easily , the little bit of battery voltage will turn the engine over it will fire right up , you only get a quick try at it , then have to engage the lever again

lightening can be felt a mile away bro while on water !. you are very lucky it did not kill you. bad weather comes ?, get off/out of the water !!!.

picked this up from a salvage yard, pick-n-pull, you take you're own tools, pull you're own parts, this is how i messed up my hand, smacking on the wrench with an open palm, this will never happen again, that is why i bought my new dewalt, 1/2 drive impact driver !. anyway, spent 3 hrs removing it from a silverado, had to re-weld the plug bracket back on it, grind some rust, got it all cleaned up, painted it, just got done installing it on my sisters '04 extended cab, 2wd silverado, all bolts lined up, plug worked without taking to dealer to program it. cost for receiver ?..$ 33.00 bucks !.

Thank you, Shadetree: Followed your advise. Terminals looked fine, a little grey film. Battery tested 12.65 volts. Cleaned terminals anyway and voila!! It starts and runs!

About 30 years ago while working in a rail switching yards I took refuge from the storm in an all steel, well gounded instrument case. These buildings were filled with cable terminations for the power switches in the field. Each conductor had a lightning arrestor to protect the inside equipment. While inside I got too close to the cable terminations just when lightning struck the rails about 75' away. To me it felt like a shock you get on carpet in the low humidity of a winters day. Burnt a tiny hole in my shirt at the shoulder.

check the battery, see if its fully charged ?. welcome to the forums.

those deals you most likely will never forget! lol..... for a while .... i couldn't touch my cloths dryer without a small static shock lol! (carpet shock) i have no clue why.... lol.... had one guy we called Dennis the mennis ..... he thought he knew everything well a short time after that hit, i was at my uncles country store with a few of the older farmers, and we were comparing close calls with lightening, and he got in the convo... said he had never had a close call, but as long as a person was in a cab tractor they were fine, just like in a car and wouldnt be struck, and a fellow stood and said ..... no.... that incorrect, you are, safe as long as you don't have a implement hooked and on the ground, or in the soil..... if you do, then you are not safe... which is true.
  22. 1 point
Dang that first one was a good hit! I'm glad I have some extra insulator hanging around my belly.
  23. 1 point
I've been there before.... sigh, been hit three times, but i never was on the water, the one i recall the best was walking out to load the furness, and a rare rain / thunderstorm had moved in..... and the ground was saturated .... the bolt was about a mile away.... needless to say i was thrown 20 plus feet landed on my back, both of flip flops blown off my feet, now what it felt like to me was a giant funny bone hit, from head to toe.... the other two strikes, not so bad .... one struck my chevy one ton flat bed on the roof, i lost my hearing for a short time over that, and another was a direct hit from on an up silo..... that strike ran down the silage unloaded winch cable, if i had been using that, i would probobly not be here today.... it's amaising how much the air was heated up.... on those two strikes, i sure felt the static charge in the air afterwards.... I'm glad you and your friends are okay.

Thanks All. Very relieved to know that a solution exists and I am making contact with AKATV.

don't get me wrong ?..some trx300's have a lot of compression !.
  26. 1 point
  27. 1 point
Yep, agree. Ment to help catch normal wear fragments, not to replace you having teeth on your gears 😛 Thats what happens when you (the PO) runs it without more than like.... 3oz of oil in the diff. I was just younger, a novice to ATV's and my dad really didnt teach me ! about mechanics, so i bought it without checking the diffs, I just make sure it started, had oil, and drove around (shifted properly. The only thing propelling Scar at that point was the front diff. That rear rebuild was a pain...
  28. 1 point
lol, yeah..these models have a ton of compression, nothing like a trx300fw has.
  29. 1 point
there’s a cable-actuated and synchronized compression release on this engine if cable not hooked up you might experience difficulties kicking it over
  30. 1 point
thank you, it sure does..... work very good!

I've discovered impacts are great for disassembly. I tend to start snapping stuff when I try to use them assembling anything other than lug nuts

No _Wilson, this designed to only work with a pressure washer. There are two different size orfices or jets if u will… one small for electric pressure washers & one larger for gas washers.

We will try to take away some of your dullness @Jaredmacneill. Pretty steady here on the forum and chat so visit often....
  35. 1 point
I probably will join tomorrow. My life here is pretty dull. There’s only a handful I visited and ones never home , another is moving to another town , my uncle and wife are in their summer home and well the last one they are always screaming at each other and my folks are gone visiting family in Nova Scotia. Well dad’s here still but he’s busy farming and doesn’t like to take vacation. He’s normally to he has to take it and ends up working on the farm for his uncle because he can’t stay still

I like the chat . I left Facebook due to mental health issues so my social life is fairly well nonexistent 😂. And I get bored sitting at home waiting for the atv to be home , my parents live on a big farm so I have it out there and I can go for a 2-3 drive just on the service trails windmill paths . They also have a pilot program where you can use them on low traffic roads and that’s great because we’re 15-20 minutes from the nearest town . A two minute drive leads you to a good old dirt road then there’s about 30 minutes stretch that you are lucky to see a single car .

Lot of saws will leak oil if stored in sheds that get vary hot inside -- it pays not to fill the oil to the top.
  39. 1 point
i would think it would work great after all you just lost some taper and a few inches of the pipe....but the outlet diameter is the same...

Didn’t touch it with a brush. I’d give it a 9 out of 10! A brush/sponge would have got the odd spot cleaned up…

oh yeah !..lol. i installed the hitch on my sisters truck, start to finish, about an hour, give or take ?, this thing is bad to the bone !.
  43. 1 point
well....... being i thought she had told me all about all the damage to get my take on it but she never told me she smashed the right hand side...... , just the left..... wow! is he going to be angry!!! i reckon the only thing she has going for is he's not allowed on my property, or in my house, he might have been somewhat okay with left side ?? but that right side ?! NOPE! not a chance...... and the truck only has liability coverage..... y'all think this will buff out ????? lol ??

looking at this engine, it looks like an 1986, no later than 1987. these yrs had the crank case breather box ( black box ) attached to the crank case, just like it is in this pic.

Has the Craftsman always leaked bar oil? A lot of times the oil tank vent get plugged which pushes oil out when it's sitting and going through heat cycles.
  47. 1 point
Welcome aboard. I know the 86's I've had have had an extra vent on the crankcase that was deleted on later models. But I think that change actually occurred sometime in the 86-87 time frame, so if it's there, it's an early one. If it's not, who knows.......
  48. 1 point
Nice , should be able to ring bolts off with that one !!!
  49. 1 point
Wife just went up there and got it. Took it to State Farm. While she was in the office the claims dept from State Farm called to say they were accepting liability. NOW we have another problem. Estimate on repair says 7 days. That means her vehicle will be fixed middle of next week.....while we're gone on vacation. State Farm said that they will provide a "comparable size" vehicle, but that I have to rent it and they will reimburse me for it. I'm so dang mad I can't see straight. So now I have to drive to Memphis, shell out a couple of grand to rent a vehicle, and then hope that these bottom feeding scum will reimburse me for it.

Pretty rare to see anything but Stihl saws around here. It's most people's top pick including the loggers and tree trimmers. Had mine since 1990 and no troubles. My Stihl brush saw is an impressive animal too.
