Hello everyone I finally got this thing going today. I put new Shindy rings, new timing chain, new clutches and she fired right up without smoking and sounding like a sewing machine. My daughter and I drove it about an hour and so far so good. She is so excited. It’s going to be warm for a few days and I am sure she is going to break it in. Thanks again for all the help. Hopefully this time it will last a while.

This board is on its way to me now this is a nice common example of what happens when you let them sit with a dead battery or run them with a dead or no battery. its pretty common failure on both the Foreman 450 and Rancher 350 particularly the ES models. There is quite an electic draw when using the electric shift motor without with no/bad battery and the voltage spikes and jumps ends up corrupting the speedometer data and not to mention when you start running the lights and all with no/bad battery you risk smoking the voltage regulator and stator as well. It really pays to keep a good battery in these models for sure

You could try putting a nail on the block side when using the extractor. Possibly it will move with it and the bolt??? I can't say I have ever tried it but worth a shot. I also just weld to remove broke bolts. If you have to install a thread repair I personally have never been a fan of the heli coil. I use keen serts when I have to repair pulled threads and there is enough material to do so.

Best luck i have had at removing a broken bolt has been putting a nut on and welding to the stud. The heat of welding tends to break the bond and help with removal. But at this point most likely you will be taking it to a machine shop and they will drill it and put a heli coil in it. Heli coil is essentially a threaded sleeve that is threaded outside and inside. It will allow you to use the same size as factory bolt threaded inside. And the hole will be taken out to the size and thread pitch necessary for the heli coil to thread in and be locked in place with some sort of sleeve retainer or loc tite. Unless you have a drill press with a vice and machinist set of drill bits do not attempt this yourself. The hole has to be perfectly square or none of this will ever work.

i replaced the tie rod ends closest to the steering arm today. I got them pretty well aligned so I’ll drive it tomorrow and make final adjustments. Steering is still loose so I’ll look at changing the steering bushes. i found the lug nuts loose. Don’t know why maybe I didn’t torque them. I’m hoping that’s what was clicking. Maybe i can get it on the trail tomorrow. I found an original new CMP front cooler carrier for this old Fourtrax. And i put my old beat up Hondaline accessory bumper under it. i really like the look of it without the bumper and carrier—you know, the no-option look. Because now i have to install a headlight riser to see over the carrier. Well if i want to take it into the woods, I’ll probably want the carrier.
