4 pointsAs some of ya'll know, i've came into a couple golden machines ?!. i call them big john, and little john. they are a kwik-way boring bar machines. they are very very old and very very rare to find them , let alone that works ?!. ok..little john works, but needs some shadetree touch to it ?..lol. big john does very well !. i had to bore out a cylinder that came on this stupid trx300ex to a 74.45mm piston. i did get it bored out with the old cutter that came with it, but i did break down and purchase two new cutting tips to go into the holders. one is a rough cut, the other is a fine cut. with some practice, i'll get to make some cash on the side from doing bor jobs, sounds boring eh ?..lol. really though...its getting harder and harder to locate folks that can bore cylinders, let alone cheap, and fast ?. i will not be sending my cylinders out any longer to get bored out. here is a pic of big john, and little john i took today when i was working on this trx300ex.

3 pointsOkay, not quite what you think, but it is a Honda. Have some friends who are back in country do to some unrest where they've been serving as missionaries for the last almost 40 years. Had a very short amount of time to get out leaving their business and belongings behind. Back in the states til August of next year while they regroup and make a new plan. While here they are going to need to do some traveling to raise more financial support. So will be doing that over a fair amount of this spring and early summer. Their travels will take them all over the U.S. so they figured they might get a small toy hauler, 18ft, and save some hotels along the way. Also thought they would take a toy along as they go to help the monotany of their time on the road. So last fall for one of their meetings, they flew to Dallas, and while there, purchased a Honda Gold Wing and drove it back to Montana. They'll put that in their little toy hauler and take it a long. Soooo...... most of the winter my friends stuff has been in my wife's ear about how much fun it is, and all of the other people we both know that have bikes that we can get out on rides with. It didn't take much convincing, I've wanted to get a bike for a long so started looking a lithe over a month ago and finally found one. So last Friday after work took off for Eastern North Dakota to go get my new to me purchase. Was a miserable trip. I was pulling a 17ft empty cargo trailer and drive in 30-45 mph head/cross wind the entire way. Pulled into my buddy's house in Bismarck at 2 am, but by the time we visited and I got settled it was 3:30 am and was up at 7:30 ready to drive the remaining 2½ hours. He had different plans so after breakfast we didn't get out of Bismarck until after 9:30. Had 40 to 45 mph wings the remaining distance. Long story sutures short, got home Sunday evening at 6 pm. More wind, rain, snow m, and ice on my way home. 1450 miles. Not sure how folks can live in that part of the country. Stopped and took pics from four directions. Absolutely nothing you see in any direction. Ended up with a 2008 1800, very nice shape only 25,000 miles. Trails don't open till mid June so will have some time to ride before atv season starts.

2 pointsUpdate.....I sent my combination meter (speedometer) to AKATV and I couldn't be happier. With the speedo now working, this has totally cured shifting issues and other minor hiccups engine related. If anyone is having mysterious driveability problems, and the speedo doesn't work, I strongly recommend getting it fixed. The service this gentleman provides is impeccable. Thank you.

2 pointsIt can get a bit light in the front end when climbing snowbanks loaded I've found. But I can travel faster on rough ground. Counter weight on the front rack helps. Power steering is great that way. But any quad I've had or have are tippy when loaded climbing stuff. But weight on a bit of a slope I don't find bad. Neighbor has a 2000 350 es and he loves running around on mine.

2 pointsI wanted to let all members know that member @Fat Tire has a lead on on a couple NOS Honda Speedometers for the Foreman 450S footshift model 1998-01, absolutely brand new in the box, and one used one with under 300 miles in VGC If you have the "black screen of death" common to the 450S, or yours is water damaged and/or non-repairable etc.. and you have found that these are discontinued- I would quickly look him up, I expect they will not be around long If I get any requests, I will forward them to him as well. -AKATV

1 pointThank you! These are the kind of tidbits that make a forum like this such a wealth of knowledge. Greatly appreciated!

1 pointlittle tip: the trx400fm and the early trx450S ( '98-'01 trx450S ) , both use the same front differentials.

1 pointfront final shaft is shot, time to replace. may as well open up the front diff, have a look at the ring gear, and all the bearings. keep in mind, you should replace all 3 oil seals while you are rebuilding it. word of caution !, the final shaft, in order to replace it ?, the engine has to come out, engine split in order to replace the final shaft. replace that oil seal right there in the front cover also.

1 pointFirst thing I'd do is check the condition of the splines on the front prop shaft - the ones near the front of the engine can get stripped, common problem on those older Honda's.

1 pointif its making a rattle noise when engine braking ?, this tells me one of the one-way bearings may be bad ?..they wear out over time. as for the bad valve guide ?, you can not tell if its bad just by looking at it ?..it does not show !. i ran across this yrs ago with a trx350 rancher, early model. they left the factory with defective heads is why. the valve guides would be tight on a cold engine, but once started, ran for a few min's..i could blip the throttle, and hear a rattle noise. finding another head was the only fix..no machine shop can solve this..as the head is made for a press fit for the valve guides.

1 pointI've had a Schumacher for a long time. Still works great! Worked on a Rincon for a friend. Wouldn't start due to low voltage and the winch wouldn't retract. Found the positive cable corroded and broken, battery was at 9 volts, and the winch switch also had corrosion in it. Replaced the battery cable, battery, and replaced the switch and winch relay box. Found out the cable was no longer being sold new so I picked up a used one on Ebay.

1 pointHey. My pride and joy is my 2004 Honda Foreman 450s. Bullet proof! Standard apart from super ATV front dics and K and N air filter/dynojet kit. New bear claw XL's. Low hours/miles. Freshened up with Genuine Honda piston and rings, valves ground in with new stem seals as it had sat around for a while before I bought it. Runs like a swiss watch! I love it! I started off in the mid 1980's with a used Honda ATC110. Loved that wee trike to bits. Big gap until 2017 when I aquired an extremely tidy TRX300 4x2. It just didn't have the guts or traction to pull the trailer so sold it and bought the current 450s. These things are THE bestquad ever made. IMO

1 pointthats a bit deep for me to think about at the moment, although the light reflected by the moon is negative energy, i believe, hence cold., and that from the sun positive, hence warm. i still believe it to be radiant energy, the sun and not have dwelled on the moons energy,, but i expect it to be similar in a negative way. as far as the moon being a source of energy, i think not, just reflective. as far as sleeping under a full moon, the term lunacy comes to mind. as far as falling asleep under the full sun, now thats just retarded.

1 pointCool! I think the 500 kit might suit the 450 better on the front mounts. I just found a thread showing the 400 kit on the 450 and had issues with the front mounts. And, it hasn't lifted the 450 level. The second hole might cure that! Thanks for all the info!

1 pointMan you gotta work the system. You should have ordered a seal or a couple of bolts or a wheel center cap to get you the free shipping!

1 pointYes, both the sun and moon are producing radiation within the spectrum of visible light. The radiation from the sun is warm so you escape to the shade for relief from the heat.... While the radiation from the moon is cold so you escape to the shade for relief from the cold. Obviously the moon produces it's own form of light radiation than the sun, which cools the air rather than heats the air. The moon is not a rock just as the sun is not a rock. If the moonlight you observe were indeed reflected radiation from the sun as your rulers would like you to believe, then you would feel and measure warmth from the sun reflected off the moon at night, not cold. In fact, air heated by the sun during the day would remain heated during the night if not for the opposing radiation energy from the moon cooling that air. Energy is required to increase temperature and energy is required to decrease temperature.... lacking an energy force, nothing changes.

1 pointI took a video with my A51 but for some reason there were 2 objects in the sky lol..tho i did see a star below to the right. There was a flame i could see with the naked eye for a bit on around 7 o'clock of the moon/sun during the eclipse looking with the naked eye.

1 pointI thought it was radiant heat. That's why it's cooler in the shade on a hot sunny day....lol
