  1. it's gonna be the rear diff, that is the weak point on the trx300's. i've never seen u-joints tear up. keep it, fit it up, trx300's are still like gold today.
  2. update: done for today, first coat of paint on frame.
  3. update: she's all torn down to bare frame now.
  4. everything honda is metric..EVERYTHING, ALL BOLTS AND NUTS.
  5. i'm waiting on my cylinder to be bored over, then i can complete the engine.
  6. do not destroy that lock nut. its best to pull the cover ( you should have a new gasket on hand first ), have a look at the bolt that goes through the cover. if the bolt threads are stripped ?, then replace the bolt with a new one if you can still buy it ?, if not..find a used one. if this were me ( and i know its not ), i would take in to consideration of replacing the clutch parts while you have the cover off. service manual is here on our site, its free.
  7. you can down load the service manual from our site here for free.
  8. forgot to mention, the centrifugal clutch is made to lock one way when turned, free spin the other way when turned. if it free spins both ways ?, then the one-way clutch bearing is bad. MAKE SURE YOU INSTALL THIS BEARING WITH THE WORDS STAMPED ON THE CAGE THAT READS '' THIS SIDE OUT ''. !!.. the words will face up when you set the bearing back down in the drum.
  9. update: lower engine is together. i decided to replace all the oil seals, may as well seeing how i had it apart.
  10. unless you have the front section of the atv up in the air a good ways ?. it will be hard to install the clutch parts back in without them falling off. get the front of the motor up about 45 degree's, set the triangle part inside the change clutch bearing, the notch will face downward, the clutch shifting shaft arm will only slide back on the shifting shaft one way, its splined, the wheel on the arm rest inside/under the notch. now place the triangle ball part with spring down. it helps to dab some grease on this b4 you set it down in the metal part that you installed into the change clutch bearing. be sure you check to see if all if any ?..thrust washers are in their place ?, sometimes the clutch arm has a thrust washer on the outside end , i don't remember if the rancher calls for it there or not ?. all parts will show under clutch on micro fich.
  11. update: got most of the lower motor together on this 2001 trx450s, was a very long day, spent most of it cleaning the crud off of the cases, washing out the rocks that were inside the cases..lol.
  12. first off...which one-way bearing are you talking about ?, there are two in that rancher, one up front, other in rear...which is the starter one-way bearing. bearing up front is the centrifugal clutch one-way bearing.
  13. update: i got everything except the clutch puller tool yesterday, EVEN GOT MY SHINDY PISTON KIT !..WOW..i wish everyone on ebay shipped as fast as g&h discount atv supply does ?!..they are on the ball for sure.i said screw it, went down to my local honda dealership, they let me barrow a clutch puller tool, came home, took about 2 min's to pop the clutch off, went and returned the tool, bunch of nice folks at my local honda dealership, then again..i spend tons of cash with them..lol. I did not do anything else on this project, i got all the parts to finish the '98 trx450es for the guy, wrapped that up, called him, he came over with the set of tires...bigger tires at that !..omg..he'll have that brand new rear end destroyed in a couple days..lol. gonna try to make it to the shop this morning, tear this '01 trx450s motor all part, it looks nasty inside, but i've seen worse lately..lol. i won't be able to get the cylinder bored out this weekend, the guy that does it, does not work on stuff ( that i know of ? ) on weekends. but i can get the motor torn down, washed/cleaned all out, and get the bottom end back together. for anyone buying on ebay for parts ?, DO NOT BUY FROM THIS PLACE ---> bikebrokeratl on eBay !!!, STAY FAR..FAR AWAY FROM THIS SELLER !!. they take forever to ship, he claims he's 35 miles from the nearest post office ?, shoot...even jeep69's post office isn't that far from him ?!..lol. this is where i bought the clutch puller tool, and it still has not made it to little rock, maybe next yr ??..lol.
  14. update: still no clutch puller tool ?, gasket kit, cam chain, and shindy piston kit should hit here soon, i know the gasket kit and cam chain is near...but the shindy piston kit won't make it here prob until monday ?, as it shows it just left memphis lastnight. once the piston kit arrives, i'll take it, and a cylinder to go have the cylinder bored to match piston kit. until i get my clutch puller tool ?, i can't tear the engine all the way down, this has me on a big hold up right now. i would really love to buy all new plastics for this build , but its not wise to invest in such an older atv these days, and make money or at least break even, so that is prob out of the question for right now.
  15. yep, myself..i dont want anything new when it comes to atv's. honda does not make them like they did 30 yrs ago..its all junk as fas as i am concerned. i'll bank on my '89 trx350D foreman outlasting anything made new today, IT WAS BUILT RIGHT BACK THEN !.
  16. tip: adjust the shoes out, rotate the drum around a time or two, adjust the shoes out again..sometimes the drum wears uneven, i use a pry bar wedged between the studs to rotate the drum when i do this.
  17. diff body style..wont fit..and you can't afford it..lol.
  18. i highly doubt catfish has any tan fenders at his place ( that side anyway ) ?, i'll ask him next time i speak to him..but i doubt he has it.
  19. when they say ships 7-10 day's ?, most times..its discontinued.
  20. they have green in stock..lol. i was worried about the tan color..it fits older models on trx400, they wont list it for the 450's..so now you have to locate used.
  21. if all shoes are moving ?, then you just have air trapped in the line. brake shoes must be adjusted all the way out , until they rub on drum, then back the star wheels off a click or two ?, then bleed the brakes.
  22. is this to keep the dead folks from voting now ??..lol.
  23. still waiting on parts, can't dig back into the engine until i get the clutch tool..that has not left ga yet ?!. usps is a total wreck right now, lord help ya if ya order anything lately !.
  24. you do not need to coat the gaskets with hondabond, that is a waste of good stuff. lay the gaskets on it..button it up. if he sinks it ?, you are going to be dealing with bigger problems other than another set of gaskets..lol.
  25. i hate to rain on your parade ?, but you are going to find out from partzilla, and anyone else you ordered parts from ?, most parts for this atv are discontinued, you can not buy new parts from honda for it. its all used parts for most of the parts on it. yes, the later model engines will fit in the frame, BUT !!..1986 is a one-year only engine, in other words..it has to have all 1986 trx350 electronics, where the later yrs will swap out on some of the parts. if you drop ,say a 1989 trx350D motor in the frame ?, you will need the wire harness, as well as all the elec parts to go with it..you simply can not just swap engines..it will not work !.
