  1. for the record, my stock '03 trx450fm, stock wheels and tires, HAS TOPPED OUT AT 49 ON A TWO LANE ROAD !.
  2. how did you figure the valves were not bent , without removing the head and removing the valves ?. you can't see bent valves without doing this. low compression does NOT just mean worn rings !. please keep this in mind before you go making guess's..lol.
  3. don't be skeer'd of the trx450fm manual shift, great atv in my book. stay far away from the es models !.
  4. i've had/road both the 300 and 450, parts for the 300 are headed to be none around here soon. parts for both the 300 and 450 are running neck an neck, as to which is better ?, they are both great atv's. i've had no issues with my 450 being unstable as you claim ?, maybe its because i don't ride like you ?. having owned my 450 for a few yrs now, i've had not one problem from mine as to date. as to which atv is better known ?, we all know the trx300fw was honda's top selling atv back in the day..and for good reason !. either atv is a great choice, i'd pick either one today..both are great machines in my book.
  5. haha..they went up in price.
  6. hard to say nathon ?, if very well could be rings from the test you did ^^ ?, but it also could have a bent valve ?, bad cam chain ?. out of time ?.
  7. welcome. 424's are around, but they will NOT come cheap, thats for sure !. last one i seen on ebay was selling for about 900 bucks, this was a few weeks ago.
  8. update:not doing anything else, i'm done with this ole gal !.
  9. update: had to tear the top end back down, swap out the head, had a leak on the header pipe, it was worse than i thought from the start. got it torn down yesterday, another head with none-stripped out header pipe bolts put back on, all the top end was put back together, all i need to do now is start putting the pieces back together for another test run on engine.
  10. you are correct on this ^^^ !. its prob a china knock off.
  11. i just looked yers up, that model is different than the es models, most likely because its an automatic.
  12. valve shows a seal on that one ^^ fich shows it without seal ?.
  13. update: yep, seems the wrong choke valve was the problem !. it runs a lot better now that i got ( i hope ? ) the correct valve installed. it will top out now with throttle pushed wide open, and not bog down. i need to get to the gas station, fill my can up, get back here, get the fuel tank operating so i can '' fine tune '' the carb and check the valve lash. will keep this thread updated as i go.
  14. the very front engine cover, which is the clutch cover DOES NOT need to be removed. the transfer gears to the electric shift motor is right next to the shift motor, driver front side, a few bolts, and the cover comes off. please read and understand the service manual b4 you go doing something you are not able to do !.
  15. like the fix, loose the blue gloves...afraid to get finger nails nasty ?..lol.
  16. been a min or two sense last update ?, currently working the second '86 trx350 fourtrax, carb was not acting right ?, swapped c.d.i. thinking it was that ?, nope, ran just as bad with good c.d.i. from other trx350 fourtrax. changed rocker box, old rocker box had some wear ( flat spots on intake rocker face ), still no change. well, after a little digging, it seems the choke valve is NOT the correct part ?!. need to round up a new choke valve ( another valve ), and get that sorted out. then onto brake work. i hope to have it all back together here in a few days, ready for its owner that is waiting on it already. will try to keep this thread updated on progress.
  17. re-use the nut. in the future ?, use a drift punch, chisel , hammer on the tangs, work it off counter clockwise, easy.
  18. and did you use a low pressure tire gauge when you took the reading ?. most atv honda tire pressure run around 3 psi.
  19. as for what i'll be doing to my '03 trx450fm here soon ?, im replacing all clutch parts ( cept the one-way bearing ), all new friction plates, steel friction plates, outer clutch drum, new gasket, D.I.D. cam chain, clutch weight set, figured seeing how i'm going in ?, i may as well replace it all once i open her up on the front end.
  20. lol..what makes you think i'm rich ??..lol. i'm so broke..i can't even pay attention !.
  21. if the shift motor is jamming ?, this tells me you have internal issues with the transfer gears under the cover right there at the shift shaft.
  22. don't need a spec tool !. remove the 4 bolts that hold the lifter, under it is the clutch basket nut, its right hand threads, counter clock wise to remove.
