  1. no a 450 carb wont work on a 350.. have ya checked the timing ?. checked valves ?.
  2. a new carb, i highly doubt the daiphragm has a crack in it ?, unless the po opened it up maybe ?. i've had this issue a few times. it turned out, the oem snorkel was stopped up with muddobbers nest, was not getting enough air to the carb, but this was on a trx300fw back then.
  3. had a chance to plug it in lastnight, here it is powered up, is has more miles than the good meter i installed on this trx450fm !..lol
  4. have not cleaned the front shocks, not painting the brake drums, nor tie rods. just using the shocks to hold up the a-arms to paint them.
  5. update: does not look like much was done ?, but if ya look closer , yu'll see i got the front left brake side done, right front side likes the brake drum installed. meter installed, wire harness installed, hooked it all up to a battery to test the meter, and see how many miles were on the meter ?, 4379 miles show on meter. handle bar grips installed, light switch installed, throttle side and throttle cable installed, oil cooler installed. piece by piece..slowly coming together.
  6. NOW, you know why i don't touch es models !..rofl.
  7. welcome, other than the normal oil changes ( wet clutch approved engine oil ! ), i'd say no unless it is not shifting right ?. sure has been a ton of es 450's coming on here lately ( guessing yer's is a 450 ? .).
  8. haha, my bud catfish, has large batteries in a basket in the back on his trx350 wrecker, and the boom on the front , with also a warn winch i put on it, these old gals are tanks. you deff need counter weights !, or like you said, they don't steer worth a crap otherwise !..lol.
  9. all i know is, is the letter D was when they started calling them foremans. all the trx350 were still fourtrax in the early years from 1986, later in the years, when they started calling them foremans ?, they put the letter D on the end of them. the ac/dc factor only applies to the first year, which was 1986, because that is when they had to have a battery to fire the spark plug, then in the later years, they changed something in them to fire from the stator instead of relying on the battery. this is what i was told many yrs ago. the tech specs are in the back of the honda service manuals , look there :-).
  10. i've used them alot, but i tape the crap outta them when i make the connection. are they the best way to connect wires ?, no. will they '' work '' ?, yes. if you use them where you can get easy access ?, then i'll use them. if its going to be in a hidden area ?, no i will not use them.
  11. all i've been told is the 1986 models MUST have a battery to fire plug, then the rest will fire from the stator, this is what i was taught.
  12. uh huh...rofl. my mind keeps going, but my body say's h__II no !...
  13. also, the D ( from what i was told yrs ago ) stands for deluxe models, which is why the foremans have the fuel gauge on the right front fender inside knees. 88-89 are all called foremans.
  14. 86 and some 87 ( not many ) are just called fourtrax, from 88 to 89 they were called fourtrax foremans. 86 and 87 had orange sub lights, 88-89 had clear sub-ligts. you can fit all year fenders on all models, BUT !!. its the sub-lights that change on the front fenders, 86 will only except the orange sub-lights without moding it to except clear sub-lights, they changed the front design on the front fenders through the years to except clear sub-lights. rear fenders will also fit on all year models. the main two things on the early versions is the sub lights, and also the 86 did not come from the factory with racks and front bumper. the fenders on 86 has the spot for the bracket holes marked out on the underside for racks. as for that letter A you and me always see when ordering parts ?, i have no idea why honda does this ?, but it has nothing to do with usa models sold here.
  15. update: just came in from the shop, been going at it all day today. got a few things done. handle bars on, front diff split, cleaned out, installed, front left axle shaft was bad !, had to replace it with a spare i had, as you can see in the pics, the groove where the snap ring sits down in, was broken, and allowed me to pull the whole shaft out of the inboard cup !..i was like..ummm..that shaft is not suppose to come out that far ?, sure enough, tore it down, and found the problem, ring broken, and groove wore smooth out !. front drive shaft is connected to motor and front diff now. rear shocks got cleaned up, installed, painted. rear brake all done now, cept gotta run the left handle bar lever to right rear new brake cable, that will come later on. got the rear foot brake drilled, tapped, grease zerk installed, foot brake painted. seems like i making progress ?, but i got a very long ways to go before i do a test fire on the engine. i got so many projects waiting on me right now, i might have to hire one of you guys to lend a hand for a couple months ?..haha. anyway, enjoy to pics !.
  16. tell that guy to put a .99 cent for sale sign on it, then rush out and buy a manual shift model !..rofl.
  17. AKATV is your man to fix meters..not sure if he does that model or not ?, he'll be in touch !.
  18. lol..well...i'm still going full steam ahead on my 2004 trx450fm project...man...this work is killing this old man !.
  19. takes me about 15 min's to put the rings on, and put the cylinder down on the piston. i'd say you are being taken for a ride..lol.
  20. well crap, catfish just had to set me up with not 1 ?, but 2 1986 trx350 fourtrax's to try and get running ?!. sigh..i can't catch a break from him it seems..lol. i have not taken any pics yet ( should have done this while i was unloading them here ), one of them is in great shape, and i mean great shape !. other is torn apart in motor places, guess someone does not know how to work on them ???..rofl. luck has it...i know a tad about them. i told catfish, our biggest issue is going to be locating c.d.i.'s for them if they old ones are bad ?. it will be used all the way from what i've searched for the other day, no new c.d.i.'s from honda..nor after market c.d.i.'s. it will be a while before i start in on these. i got too many projects on the list now, these will have to sit on the back burner for awhile.
  21. wow, i could of had the whole motor rebuilt in the time frame they are jerking you around ?!..lol.
  22. well, one was doing good..until it bleed oil out of the front oil cooler line that got cut with a cut-off wheel i guess ?, they ran a very nice slot in the oil line. myself ?, i'd never own an auto to save my life.
  23. haha...and NOW you are getting the taste of what it takes to keep these atvs in tip top shape huh ?..rofl. THERE IS NOTHING...AND I MEAN NOTHING CHEAP ABOUT REPAIR AND REPLACE WHEN IT COMES TO PARTS, SPEC OEM PARTS !. i spent just about 5k on my 2003 trx450fm atv, start to finish, it put a huge dent in my wallet, but it was worth every dime !.
  24. deff will on the meter. as for those tubes ?, not even the parts bike had the air box...let alone the tube ?..lol. he does not have any other 450 parts bikes on his property cept the one i've been taking parts off of.
