  1. i've used cotton swabs and fine steel wool stuffed down in the float needle seats, works pretty good at polishing the seats.
  2. you are welcome. i've learned a few tricks through my 30 yrs of doing this kinda work..lol.
  3. if all else fails ?, you could also use a torx bit hammered down inside those allen heads, they get a good bite, and will remove most stripped out allen heads.
  4. rear drum brakes on almost all honda's are worthless over time. you either index the cams back words to allow for the brake drum wear ?, or you pony up, and buy a new brake drum ( if they are still around ? ) , and they are not cheap by any means !. if the drum is worn down very bad ?, then you have a couple more options, wrap the cam with flat tin to spread the shoe area out further ?, or weld metal onto the shoe area ( add ), grind it flat, this spreads the shoe area out further as well. all of this is the redenck way of '' getting by '' ?, but when money is a problem ?, it can work.
  5. thanks for the kind words !. yeah, its been in deep water/mud for sure !..lol.
  6. THANKS !. got one interested local buyer that '' claims '' he's interested in buying it ?, we'll see if he pans out ?, just listed it on cl's yesterday morning, already have interest in it in less than one day ?, haha, i know deer season is here in arkansas, and the show room floors at dealers are empty !, hopefully i get this sold, and make another person happy with my work :-).
  7. welcome, the oil seals are bad. from the looks of the pic ^^ ?, its full of mud and water. you could pull the left rear side down, and replace the o-rings and oil seals this way ?, but its best to pull the whole diff, split it, change out all the oil seals, o-rings, and bearings when its apart. i'd bet money the bearings are about shot ?. with a few tools, you and all of us here can turn you into a good atv mechanic in no time !.
  8. he would not bring me a battery ?, i told him by monday, or else it was going on cl's..sure enough, he never showed up with it..i dont have time for talkers.
  9. final update: not doing anything else to this, want to buy it ?, contact me, we'll work on a price that suits me..lol. i'm listing it at $ 2,895.00 cash, anyone from the forums here can get it cheaper.
  10. you are 100% correct !. my dealer's floor is EMPTY !!.
  11. let him find out the hard way !..rofl. just think how hard it will be to get parts for that junk ?, we can't even get parts for modern atvs today !. lol.
  12. update: just got back from my local honda dealership, bought a brand new honda battery for this 1991 trx300fw, will get it installed, and get the carb back in, then i will post this atv on cl's, show room floor at my local dealership do not have one atv on it !!!, hunting season is here, pretty sure it will sell very fast. gonna start the bidding @ $ 2,895.00. may not get it ?, but it leaves me room to get my cash back to cover the brand new c.d.i. , new engine oil, and now a new honda battery, rest goes back to catfish ( this is his atv, not mine ). i'll post some final pic's soon !.
  13. @AKATV is your man for the job !.
  14. you are right !. but shop around before you commit to junk that is too far gone for the asking price..lol.
  15. start by checking to see if the battery is fully charged ?, then down load the service manual from the site here. chances are, either the battery is low ?, or the angle sensor is bad ?, or the factory grease needs cleaned out , and factory grease replaced with fresh grease at the transfer gear area.
  16. ebay muffler is trashed. aftet market looks like pure junk ?, i'd pass..lol.
  17. for starters, 60 lbs is NOT the weight limit on the hitch ball !, maybe for the rear rack ?..but deff not the weight limit for the hitch ball !. most trx300fw's had a weight limit on the ball around 300-400 lbs i think it was ?.
  18. now this is a great buy ^^^ !!!, honda wants over 1k for the oem mufflers, and i need a muffler for my '04 trx450fm project, got one lined out for later on.
  19. i have done a few mufflers just like this thread ^^^, cut off the very end, pull/dumb broken pieces out, re-weld the end right back on, very easy to do.
  20. i've got the outer cover that was on the old meter, its not cracked, but it is rough looking, prob could polish it up ?, but i bought a brand new cover from honda. i'll prob still send the old meter to AKATV, let him fix it, and have a spare for my '03 if and when ever it finally decides to die yrs down the road ?..lol.
  21. no, they wont. the buckets attach different on the later model 450's, from '98 to 2001, the buckets attach to the front fender with 10mm bolts. from 2002 to 2004 the buckets attach to the front fender with 4 screws that have tabs that hang down off the underside of the fender. all headlights for the trx300fw's will swap out to every model for them, but they will not work with direct fit for the trx450's. some one drilled and bolted those trx300fw headlights, and attached them to trx450fm/es plastic buckets, i'll bank on this !.
  22. thanks bro !. my other meter is not black at all ?, but the top glass/plastic that is part of the LCD screen looks like someone took some rough sand paper to it ?!..lol. under that part, which is the LCD screen, its pretty clear, no signs of burnt anywhere that i can see ?. but hopefully this meter will work out great, not worried about the miles/hours..i still have paper work to prove i rebuilt the engine.
  23. update: as promised, here is the meter and engine all done, have not painted the engine yet, on break right now..lol.
