  1. do not waste your time with drum brakes, go disk brake conversion !. take my word on this, you will be very happy with front disk brakes !. yes, its a direct bolt on.
  2. update: had time tonight after putting the '91 trx300fw back together on the front left side, to tear the motor down on this '2004 trx450fm, here is a pic of what seems to be the problem so far ?..rofl. no really, this is just what i dumped out, all the smaller parts of the piston was washed down , and out in my parts washer. motor is all the way apart, now I just wash it out, clean them, and start putting it back together. just came in from the shop, called it a night. word of caution !!!, if any of you outlaws has a top end blow up ( piston mainly ) ?, BE SURE YOU SPLIT THE MOTOR, AND WASH IT OUT !!!, if you do not ?, i'd bet my last dollar you will be right back where you started from in no time ?!?, reason : there is very fine shavings down inside the lower engine, all this heads right for the bearings, all you end up with is a time bomb, SPLIT THE MOTOR, WASH IT ALL OUT VERY GOOD !!!.
  3. if you go oem ?, you wont have a choice !. either you fix it right ?, or you do it half way, and still pay a good penny for junk that wont fit.
  4. update: well, this story just keeps getting better as i go !. where to begin ?, hmm. decided to roll the 300 out, roll the 450 in to start stripping it down to bare frame. got that all done, motor out, laid on floor, pushed that back out, back over in the resting place, rolled th 300 back in just inside the doors on the floor, started sitting the 450 motor on my lift, looked back over at the 300 front left rim, and wouldn't ya know it, tire was still leaning in at the top ?!..wth !. well, today, i ripped it all back apart, a couple things stood out at me, one, the lower eye on the shock was bent big time !. and two, the a-arms were bent out of shape, all of this was making the tire lean in at the top, i could not have this !. 3 trips to catfishes place, two different a-arms, ( found out first gen a-arms on 4x4 300's are all not the same width to attach the to the frame ! ), i never knew this, and reason is, ive never had to replace any on a trx300fw ?..needless to say, someone wrecked this big time through the yrs !. So, i finally got a good set of a-arms off a 1990 4x4 , trx300, had to change out the upper and lower ball joints, no biggie. just got all this installed about an hour ago. need to rest my foot/leg, been putting some extra miles on it today, and i'm flat worn out !. not all is lost today on trips to catfish's place today, i found what i think is a bumper for fishfiles 1992 trx300fw ?, pic is included here , along with all my blood, sweat, and tears today.
  5. i had to swap fenders out, and the new style flares were already attached on the fender, so went with it. the fender that was on it was too far gone to use. as for the flares ?, i used an old plastic battery box, cut the sides out, cut to fit, pipe hanger strap i used to look like the brackets that come on them from the factory. and thank you for the nice words !.
  6. do yourself a huge favor, CONVERT THE FRONT BRAKES TO DISK BRAKES !!!, you will never thank me enough. either high lifter or super atv sells these kits, buy it, install it, don't look back. forget rebuilding the drum brakes, they suck !.
  7. brushes in starter worn out ?, or like ya said, bad starter solenoid ?.
  8. sonia should jump on that real quick like !.
  9. again, you can not get a brand new oem c.d.i. from honda, they are discontinued today, all you can do is try to locate a used c.d.i. from ebay, and it HAS to be for that year model !.
  10. update: last update for today. got the rear rack painted, installed, now i wait for battery and carb kit.
  11. i do not do plastic welding, so can't answer this. as far as each model with honda plastics ?, pretty much every plastic part is made from injection molding.
  12. update: some pic's i just took a few min's ago.
  13. my first question is, where did you buy the c.d.i. ?, i'm asking , cuz last time i checked awhile back, ALL OEM C.D.I. 's WERE DISCONTINUED FROM HONDA !?!, so..you must have got you're hands on an after market china c.d.i...correct ??..if this is the case ?, then yeah..it will never spark !. if it IS oem from honda ?, then let us know...we'll figure it out for you :-).
  14. yep, that goes to the right side frame, but u said the old bolt head is broken, so do whatever ya have to do to ground it to the frame, IT MUST BE GROUNDED TO THE FRAME !.
  15. update: got the heel guards made and bolted on, got the front inner splash guards drilled and tapped out where they mount to the bottom of frame, soon to get the front fender bolted on, need to work on the headlights , just need to get them cleaned up, hopefully i have some good bulbs ?. still need to paint the front and rear racks, check for fit and all that. i am waiting on the correct carb kit, then i can put the carb back in, fuel tank back on, give her a test run. i see light at the end of the tunnel finally !. still waiting on him to bring a honda battery, he better not bring me some cheepo from wally world ?!..lol. i told him to use nothing but honda batteries. YES fish, i know we use those duracell's in ours ?, but he's not gonna spend that kinda money !!..lol. i'll get some pic's after while posted on my progress, i hope anyway ?..lol.
  16. that clip does not come with the switch housing, nore does it come with the choke cable, most, if not all honda parts are all sold piece by piece , not many come with everything to just bolt on.
  17. i wonder if she's gonna deep fry some chicken with that engine ?..hmmmm.
  18. i've had my hands on a few trx450S/FM lately, i know alot of about them. i have a 2004 trx450fm ( last year honda made this model ) currently on the back burner for a restoration right after i finish this 1991 trx300fw i am working on. then i will begin the tear down of the 2004 trx450fm for a complete restore. my '03 trx450fm i restored is in my collection, i use it mostly now instead of my 1989 trx350D foreman 4x4. the trx450fm are solid atv's, so is the trx400's, all great machines.
  19. right side, where all the connectors attach to the frame, there is a bolt hole there for the ground wire, should also have a green harness wire attached to it as well.
  20. well crap, all i've done to my '03 trx450fm was add a koplin gun boot..lol. my other atv sits idle and racks up value every day, because i let it sit there and look fancy for an old 30 something yr old atv..lol.
  21. look what followed me home just now !. it was time to invest in a new mig/flux core welder. 115v-230v, read until i was blue in the face, it was either this welder model, or the hobart 140 model, i went with this one !.
  22. better add a front bumper, yers is missing !..lol.
