go to wally world, buy a spray bottle and gallon of super clean, i do not dilute it !. be warned !!, it will burn a tad on raw skin, spec with a cut ..lol. but it will do what you want it to do.

update; went to catfish's place this morning, grabbed another starter, and another rim, headed out to get this mounted back on the tire, hopefully ???, i'll get some pic's today !.

i do not know bro ? i can't weld with a stick welder, i tried it back in high school..all i could do is weld the stick to the metal !..lol. i picked up wire welding very good though later in my life, i can mig weld ( wire ) very good. so i use my craftsman 90 amp wire welder to do home projects, it does pretty good with flux core, but i just wish it had more amps, for deeper penetration, i was looking at a holbart wire welder, kinda pricey, right at 1k, it can run on 120v or 230v with just swapping out the plug end. maybe for future purchase ?, i can't afford it right now.

i'm on it, only cuz of my motorcycle wreck in '08. i got part A , not sure about part B ?, but i got med part covered by silverscript, coverage is very good, only pay about 3 bucks, at most 7 bucks for meds ?. the rest..like doc visits ?, i dont worry about, i stay far ..far away from them , unless its an emergency ?,..other than this ?..i'm set i guess ?. at the time, i was not 65..but because of my wreck, and unable to work because of my leg ?, i got approved for ssd, had to hire a lawyer for my case, got all back pay, now i draw ssd per month. i'd rather work ?, but my leg say's no way !..lol. oh..and i just turned 57 last march. sigh...i'm too old for this crap !..lol.

update: well, yesterday turned out to be a bust !. guy came over, looked at it, was very impressed with its looks, loved it !. went to start it, it would not start ?!..aghhh !. pulled plug, it was flooded, dried it, put it back in, still would not start, dangit !. after he left, i finally discovered the starter has a dead spot in it. well, time for another starter. after i got it going, noticed the idle was off ?, hmm..posb the carb kit i used back then wont work, it was only for 1988-1990...this is a 1991...grrr..ordered the correct shindy carb kit last night. seems honda only uses a carb kit with certain yrs, '91-'92, '90 will not work in a '91..jet sizes change. i knew this going in, but i had this new kit, decided to give it a shot, NOPE..WILL NOT WORK !. runs too rich. moving along, after i got it running, put it in gear, noticed very fast it would jerk the handle bars big time ?!. come to find out, the front left rim is bent big time, you know, one of those rims that i just broke down to change out for better tires ?!!..aghhh !. So now i got to fix the starter, fix the front left bent rim ( means breaking back down, swapping unto another rim ), change out the carb jets when i get the CORRECT carb kit. had to make another shopping trip to catfish's place yesterday for a better front fender, the one that was on it is just to broken up to mount correctly, grabbed another fender, better shape, may work on that today ?, i'm just getting burned out working on a project with messed up parts, parts not right, list goes on an on. i'll suffer through it, move on, and get it right, say a prayer for my old butt !!..rofl. sorry for no pic's outlaws, my day was filled to the brim, and i was in no shape after yesterday to take any pics, was kinda bummed out, tired, just was not a good day for me. i did tell him when he looked at it yesterday, '' you need to go to honda ..and pick up a battery '' he said he'll be back monday with it, we'll see ?..lol. soo...i move on, keep trucking...i'll get there outlaws !.

the difference between me...and others ?, they slap it together, call it good..no matter how it looks ?, myself ?, i'm all about details..if it looks great ?, then i'll get my asking price once i go to sell it.

you can't pay oem price..period !..why ?, THEY ARE DISCONTINUED ..THATS WHY !. when parts become discontinued ?, sellers will jack the oem price to triple if they want ?, and there is nothing you can do about it..other than pass , or pay up ?. i've seen side covers sell on ebay for 500 bucks..EACH !. they know what they have..its called supply and demand, they supply it, then demand their asking price, back to my very first question, JUST HOW BAD DO YOU WANT IT FIXED ???..LOL.

the outer plastic part he does not repair, only the LCD section is what he fixes.

you can look up the yr/make model on partzilla.com, click on each part , and once you do that, it will show you all yrs/makes/models that part also fits as well :-).

bearing or not ?, honda came out, and said these tranny's can not be rebuilt, we all know why, they do not want you to fix it, they want to get your money on a whole new tranny !..lol. i have seen them on catfishes floor, they don't look to be too hard to take apart ?, but when i don't know what i am doing ?, i leave well enough alone. over time, all it took was someone to figure out how to fix them, just like they did with honda's rear diff back in the day, back then, they also said you had to replace the whole diff, as it could not be rebuilt ?, then some guy came along, and figured out how to change out the bearings in them. what honda did , was put the pinion bearing in there with a stupid cir-clip to hold it in there, and sure enough, honda claims this was why they could not be rebuilt ?. sure enough, as time went on, this smart person figured out a way to get these bearings out, and came out with a bearing kit.

been restoring atvs ( mostly ) for going on 30 yrs now, i tend to know alot about what to use, and what not to use !..lol. currently trying to finish up a 1991 trx300fw, you can see it in this section, then right behind this, i have a 2004 trx450fm that will get a '' complete over haul '' in the making during the next few months. be warned !, nothing is cheap about restoring an atv, parts prices add up very quickly !!.

best advice i can give you ?, sell it, get a manual shift model !..lol. they just dont die !. if the transmission is shot in that atv ?, for what it will cost to replace the transmission ?, you can buy a complete , running manual shift model !. last time i checked , those tranny's cost over 1800 bucks just for that part !. they are not serviceable going by the book ?, but there has been folks to rebuild them, just not my me..lol.

welcome , first lets start with the engine. D.I.D. cam chain is the way to go, oem or namura after market piston kit is worth the money. oem gaskets or after market gaskets is ok, i tend to use what i can afford on projects. oem on bushings, no one has better than i know of , other than boss bearing company. always use atv oil, NEVER USE REG AUTO OIL !. a shindy carb kit is best for the carb rebuild, any other is junk , cept oem, but that is not worth the cost , not when shindy is outstanding. not sure how you are going to pull off a elec meter/display ?, none of these models came with them that i know of ?, cept maybe the automatics ?, and i never touch those. the trx400fm is a solid machine, PLEASE DON'T SKIMP ON PARTS AND NOT DOING IT RIGHT ?!.

update: got the muffler back on, oil added, fuel to carb, couple sec's, she fired right over. got the rims all painted today, '' newer '' tires all mounted back on rims. shift lever on, foot rest on, all painted. now i work on body parts, front fender, rear fender, fuel tank, racks..sigh..lot more work ahead of me. i hope to have it finished before the weekend is over ?, just so much little stuff goes into this restore process. i'll get some pics posted tomorrow sometime, just came in, been working on this sense 3:00am , its now 1:33am weds morning, i'm beat.

see if the tang is out 180 ?. its bolted to the cover.

it's only fun to watch, UNLESS YOU ARE THE ONE SINKING A 5K-8K ATV, and have to pay to fix it ?, then its not fun anymore !..lol.

and for the record ?, the rear maier fender DOES NOT HAVE A PLACE TO PUT THE BATTERY !..LOL.

trying to tell him, maier fenders are NOT oem fit..lol. ya can lead a horse to water, but ya can't make him drink it !.

no you wont, if you are talking about maier fenders ?, they are not oem !, but go ahead, buy them...lol.

update: as promised , here is some progress pics, sigh...its kicking my butt !..lol. still have not started swapping tires yet. keep in mind, this is a budget build !!..lol.

my new hunting club is down just south of warren, place is huge !. only one guy that goes there, does not hunt has a honda talon, every one else has either a 4-wheeler , or 3-wheeler, trials are very narrow in some places. they keep the lanes as narrow as posb, about the width as bush hog, as that is what they use to make the lanes.
