    Forum Hunters?

personally IMO I think most places deer got very very nocturnal due to both many places allowing feeding, and bigger picture, so many hunters that now pretend to be farmers and plant acres of food plots, feeding deer more like cattle , making them into more grazing animals than browsers that there supposed to be! deer learned to eat in bulk at night in fields, when its dark out(safer) and the food is there 24/7 if need be and its easier to eat in one place, than have to roam miles to get enough GOOD browse, and have to eat often all day long, as they do in heavy forested area/ NOW ,They can sit in one spot almost all day, move to a food plot, fill up and repeat, pretty much staying nocturnal if they wished to be! add in how many deer now live in SMALL sections of wooded area's as to larger tracts of undeveloped lands the safety factor alone, has made many deer learn night time movement are just safer! and YES 100% on Walmarts selling corn, here it even says DEER CORN on the bags, yet, its Illegal to actually feed deer here in PA doesn;t stop many folks from doing it, and the game dept is fully aware of it for decades(heck for yrs it was part of there actually JOB to feed deer in winter time, even had a bunch of there own feeders on a farm I managed still with the state game dept ID tags on them LOL) there view typically is, unless they get complaints about it, they turn a blind eye to it, UNLESS its in hunting season, then they LIKE to find folks hunting over./near it and fine them for hunting a baited area! one of the funny things, or I sort of laugh at it is, here in PA< the game dept did a study a few yrs back about baiting deer, they did a few yrs of research, and afterwards, came to to the conclusion, that using BAIT< had ZERO difference on hunters killing deer! stating there was NO difference in hunter success , to those that baited and those that didn't so, they STUCK to there ban on baiting. IMO< that's a LOT of BS, all animals live by there stomachs, easy food, attracts deer, and as such, your odds increase on killing ANY deer most folks that bait, are being more picky, looking for antlers and such, not just filling tags!, not all, but many SO< IMO< if there is NO difference in baiting or not, why is one illegal over the other! real answer IMO here in PA< is, they make a LOT of money off handing out fines to hunters they catch hunting over bait, easy money for them ! LOL if they really wanted to stop baiting here, they should be targeting the folks selling the corn labeled for deer feed? just like catching those that sell drugs, over just them that buy it?

well remington owns marlin now LOL and I sort of agree, but they both still do make some nice one 's yet very few gun makers still make guns of the same high quality bluing and wood as they used to in normal lines, now its all custom shop over priced , for what your getting as to what they did yrs back IMO! I'm just glad we don;t have boat loads of made in chine cheap junk flooding stores, like we do with all other sorts of things from ATV parts, to carbs to cheap knock off everything! so I can at least say I am glad the firearms were DO get from other places tends to be of GOOD quality! and hope it stays this way,!!

well it was low 50's today here and sunny(sunny and mid 40's yesterday) and calling for warmer tomorrow! sounds like a great day weather wise fore most folks but its DEC, winter is here, should;cold and snow ?? I have a orphaned cub here right now, all confused due to weather, NOT helping me HELP it learn to den when weather gets warm and shouldn;t be! this iis what I am talking about, when accused of complaining LOL its NOT normal weather and it has BAD effects on wildlife, maybe some don;t care about it, and rather have nice weather to be in, but its NOT normal weather, and its screwing up a lot of things we all take for granted will work out! crops rely on weather, and farmers plant based on TYPICAL normal weather, when the weather isn;t normal, it can mean loss of crops , from just LOW yields to NO yields and costs to re plant, get reflected to the consumer, so it effects EVERYONE! not just me complaining here LOL I haven't had a decent apple harvest here in 5 yrs now due to extreme temp swings so often and late frosts and early warm ups followed by extreme colds haven't seen an acorn in my yard in 6 yrs now for same reasons! ever wonder why so much wildlife is NOW near houses its cause the natural foods they USED to live on in the wilds ain't there like they used to more PLANTED and cared for foods near houses!

Jeep, I can agree with you some of the older win's were pretty accurate rifles in .22's but I shot a few things better , all the more so when I get into the .22 mags my old Mossberg Chuckmaster 640 , was and is amazing for how old and how many rounds down the barrel, it out shoots all my newer one's as for lever guns, well, I have/had a few here are two I just let go of to a fellow down south( Louisiana) last month! one was a Old Marlin 336, (30/30)from 1949, second yr production and the other is a older Marlin 1889, from 1890, second yr gun as well never shot either to say how accurate they were however, but are classic guns in my eye's and I love aged wood on them, and all the more so, I knew the whole story on both of them, the 1889 was bought by a friends grandfather NEW< and he bought the 336 new himself in 1949 which to me adds value to things as honestly these days, these old guns, most times have been sold several times over, so finding them from original owners is getting hard to do!, or just finding the old owners still alive to tell the stories of them sorry not a great pic of the 30/30, but was pretty darn clean for the age! new owner is very happy with both of them and a shotgun he took off my hands as well a beretta 687 ultra light deluxe, also a low produced gun, but of modern times, or late 90's any how more likely one I rill regret letting go over a lot of the others I sold recently! LOL as they are almost impossible to find, and this was like new in box yet, not a mark on it, yet used on a few great hunts out west also used it on the first hunt with my last dog and his last hunt , but cannot keep em all!

this is also one of the BIG reasons, over the past many yrs, or in MY state, the game dept has been pushing hard to STOP people from throwing out remains after butchering in the woods and to have things taken care of in different ways, as they also feel its a possibility that when people just throw things out in the woods to rot away, it can make other animals sick! and yes it is a scary thing to think about the possibility of getting sick from eating wildlife In the PA< Fish lic book, it STATES how many fish you can SAFELY eat from most of the main waterways, and many places they again recommend you DON"T eat any at all! same water again deer and other wildlife animals drink from, makes one wonder?? I know here in my area there are still many DEAD streams and creeks from mining, where water will NOT support life of fish and many other things, and again, DEER and other wildlife will drink it too ?

and to also be clear here a LOT of game depts, believe how CWD got into THERE state , is from a hunter having killed a deer in a state with effected deer and bringing the HEAD back with them, another possible cause is, , in PEN RAISED deer, where there is BIG $$$< and folks import genetics thru the mail with sperm from other deer and then, well you know! the QUEST for making MONEY, has lead to a LOT of things going BAD! deer of almost un natural sizes and antlers is a goal, that is almost altering genetic make up, to produce them ever wonder about this side of things? MOST states that have issue's with CWD< also have MUCH higher pend raised deer facilities now than ever as well? Funny how more of them popping up and suddenly more outbreaks, and well, folks still want to point the finger at round up, thats been in use decades before the CWD issue's and Blue tongue( EHD) and other things!

LOL this is the problem with warm ups in winter time, instead of snow, you get rain that turns to ice!

    Forum Hunters?

well, I have been farming part time for 30+ yrs, walked across many fields after harvest as well as been using round up and countless other like designed products ain't killed me yet so?/ LOL NOW< as for water quality YOU think water is getting better?? 10 yrs ago, most water ways in PA< held fish all yr and there were NO limits on how many you can consume NOW< almost every water way in PA< fails to hold NATURAL fish, yr round, very few remaining streams, creek/ brooks that hold native fish, due to BAD water quality VERY few water ways in PA< DON"T have limits or even BANS on how many fish you can catch and EAT safely! processing plants have more chemicals added to KILL things in current waters now than ever and have MORE steps to making them SAFE to drink, and MANY folks DON"T trust them, its why BOTTLED water sells so much(and not like its all that much safer or better, but people FEEL it is) NOW as for other chemicals well, what about ALL the drugs HUMANS take, or give to our pets? where do you think the by products end up after going thru a body? all the chemicals in TRASH we bury! all the chemicals that we use and omit into the air, that end up coming back down and landing on plants water soil and so on! face it, we humans are BAD for nature period! NOW don't get me wrong I am NOT saying round up and like Glyphosate are GOOD things for us humans or wildlife BUT what I am saying is I doubt there the MAIN factor in CWD in deer, as like you said, its used EVERY where, by both professionals(farmers and likes) and the general public! if it was causing CWD, it would be showing up every where in a LOT higher numbers! can it be PART of the cause, MAYBE, like anything, when you start mixing things together, anything can happen IMO! many state game depts like to BLAME farmers for a LOT of things too, FACT here in PA a state that USED to be a top 5 pheasant state and now, have almost ZERO wild pheasants guess who got blamed for them going under?? Farmers! they blamed modern farming for the MAIN cause of why we have NO wild pheasants here YET magically, many LARGER more AG states with more farmers/farms and farm land in acres! still have them! then they blamed habitat saying, we LOST too much of it, for them to survive so they spent like 700+ million bucks on PEN raise and released birds so HUNTERS could shoot some(many got eaten by cats or hit by cars as they were too dumb to know how to survive after being pen raised and dumped into the wild) then after about 30 yrs of this they FINALLY, came to the conclusion, it is NOT a viable thing to do>> HUMM< maybe they should have spent that money on habitat! and studies on what happened NOPE< that would have made sense> state game dept, also left the forests here in PA< get severely damaged from over populations of deer, to the point, 15+ yrs later, many forests are stil FAR from even close to recovering> SO< IMO< don't think Game dept's are ALL that great at solving problems or making correct calls! HECK< here in PA< they won't even take credit for dropping the ball on loosing pheasants, or all the destruction of habitat that also caused huge losses in numbers of tons of wildlife, from grouse(state game bird), woodcock, and many other HUNTED species!! they act as if its NOT there JOB to have seen things and stopped them from happening YET job description and title says other wise! I am GLAD we have game depts for sure, but HANDS on first hand experience working with many , trust me, they ain;t all that GREAT at things as you would thing they should be! and I will also say this, MANY states game dept's are LIGHT years ahead of other states game depts too! worked with MANY over the yrs to see this first hand as well! blaming Feeding deer as cause to this CWD< is a bunch of CRAP it MIGHT help spread it, but its NOT the cause! like it or not, MILLIONS of folks feed deer round up ready corn and tons of it and if it was KILLING them,, we have very few deer in the USA ! same with them eating standing crops that get treated with it! don't believe this what do you think they feed MOST animals WE human eats?? pig, cattle, chickens, turkeys?? treated corn and by products?? if round up was killing deer with CWD, it would be showing up in US humans as well, as other animals raised to feed us! I have bears here that are 16+ yrs old, that feed off corn fields below me, eating a few ton of corn every yr< they seem pretty darn healthy to me still> LOL and countless other bears on other farms I managed that been there for YRS as well as some deer I can ID< that are 7-9 yrs old and healthy too! I don;t drink the coolaid that round up/Glyphosate is causing CWD any way shape or form nor is it from them eating corn! I planed enough of it in food plots for decades and not a single case of it on the farms I did so! something else is the cause IMO way too easy to again, blame a chemical and or a farmer
  19. mrbb

    Forum Hunters?

I really question if this is a FEEDING deer issue and my logic is this, many of the BIG players that feed deer INSANE amounts of food/corn, grains ans such, have for decades problem free, like Texas as an example, some wealthy ranches will spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on feeding programs and hundreds of tons of corn(round up branded corn too boot) and they didn;t have the CWD issue's that are found else where so, if feeding was causing the disease, it should have started there IMO YES if there ARE sick animals and you ARE feeding causing many to eat in the same feeder, or pile or?? then I can see it HELPING to MAYBE spread to other dears, due to such close contact with each other and well, deer do drop food out of there mouths and others can then eat it? But I know of Countless folks that have feed wildlife to decades and still do, and ZERO Issues, in countless states and locations whee its NOT been found! SO, IMO< this is a BIG reason to think its NOT feeding deer that is the problem! NOW Once a it shows up in an area, it will NOT be good idea to keep feeding IMO< due to the above reasons but the main cause I doubt is from anyone feeding them! I again blame water quality and or other chemicals there getting some other way!

well, I don't tend to post pic's of my guns, heck don't even have many of most as I well, have a LOT of em had a gun shop for yrs and collected a LOT from there, and cannot tell you how many folks have contacted me when a loved one passed away and asked me to buy there collection off them, which REALLY added to the amount of things I have, as picking up 10-40 at a time, , things got a little out of hand. the past 10 yrs or so, I think I sold about 200 or so, and still have way too many! LOL I seem to have some I call safe queens I have a few safes to boot) that were picked up more as collectible/investments and never shot, as well as a lot of things in doubles,, one for using, one for leaving new or? I never seemed to have any one type I liked, I like a lot of types, from old to new, from classic's to more modern,! I was also a long time competitive shooter in about every class there was, my fav was Long range , but I dabbled in most types at one point or another! was also a class III dealer, so got to enjoy a lot of them as well and there other devices! I never found anything wrong with guns , its the people using them that can be a problem, but I never feel a gun or a type of gun(firearm) is a issue's there just a tool like anything else, used right they do what designed for, when used wrong, anything can happen

6 degree's this morning when I got up and about 19 now, with 3 inches of snow on all my ice WEEeeeeeeee!! just went and bought 500 lbs of rock salt? I'd love to try to plow, but I know that would be pointless, as side hills and ice and gravity, I'll just end up sliding into a tree and getting something stuck or broken! point of plowing would be to move snow, so SUNLIGHT can TRY and help melt ice, as white snow, is a insulator and sun reflector, leaving snow on top of ice, just makes lce last longer!

don't worry Fish, I only play by the legal rules, in PA, its a tricky deal, on HOW many, as its sort of based on HOW many tag's you wish to BUY or get lucky and can BUY we have special reg area's that for yrs tags were pretty much unlimited But again, I used to also hunt 3-7 different states a yr, WV, was if I recall correctly, 7 deer per season with correct tags I also did crop damage hunts and control as well, all LEGALLY I couldn't even imagine how many deer I killed legally, but I know its a LOT more than most by a LOT!,as I sure went way over board for yrs on hunting, 90-100+ days a yr for a few decades! the crazy amount of hours I used to log in every yr sitting in tree stands , I doubt many would believe me if I told you's as for yrs I kept good records on things, before just giving up on that too, too much work for nothing IMO NOW As for CWD in deer, right now there are issue's with it being found in PA , certain area's have it and the state is trying its best to figure out where all its at, asking for folks to donate heads and deer parts to study this yr there is also a big issue with MAGE in our Black bears, in parts of the state as well, that have been popping up more and more often, a rather cruel way for a bear to die going bald and unable to live as such! and then there is and has been a BIG issue with loosing Bats, now about a decade or more, numbers are dropping at alarming rates all over the USA, called white tongue disease I personally thing it has to do with water quality, I mean just think how far we have gone in such a few short decades on water quality from streams and rivers and lakes , so polluted fish cannot be eaten anymore, or on major limits on what you can consume, water treatment processes that are getting more and more extreme to be safe to drink and then all the wild life is stuck drinking from the polluted sources directly think about it? chemicals, drugs and what not's all end up in water, treatment plants make it safe for humans afterwards(or so they claim LOL) many animals/wildlife and like things ain;t getting treated water to drink! and stuck absorbing all the bad things, its NOT like wild animals have state of the art treatment plants inside them and then how many of these animals do we eat> has to have some side effects NO??

    Forum Hunters?

well I can understand why some folks only want big ones I know I was sort of guilty of that too, as I loved to travel and hunt, and if I was spending a few grand to travel and go some place, I didn;t just want meat, I can get all of that I want at home(used to shoot about 15-20 deer a yr and give most away to folks that begged me for it, never went to waste) so, when I was far from home on a hunt, I was more selective on what I would shoot, unless there were terms to me being there(some land owners needed me to shoot a doe first before allowing me to hunt for bucks) and I always did as asked, I never found finding deer hard, came to me rather easy, so, just going some place and filling a tag, was rather easy for me, so, I always set size goals based on where I would be hunting, and always tried to the larger class for an area, and if I didn;t tag out, so be it, I enjoyed the hunt regardless, a kill was never needed for me, However, I seldom didn;t fill a tag either?? I do know on a VERY costly hunt in alberta (over a grand a day deal) I shot a wounded deer someone had shot and not got, FAR from what I wanted, but , to me was the right thing to do costly, but, life ain';t all about money either! LOL this deer here now with a broken leg is bothering me, wish the state would let me take it out, butcher it and donate to a good cause! rather than see it suffer, but sadly, they don;t do that?? NO money in it for them IMO, , the right thing to do, they care less about!, claim Mother nature will handle it!
