  1. Thank you Retro. I saw where you are the mastermind behind the architecture of the site. I will use it and share my experience as I have worked on some 300s for people. I just want to help make sure the valuable resource remains available. Any donations are good donations and I did reveiw the financial statements section. Thanks and Merry Christmas to All!! Honda's are like no others!
  2. This will be my last post to my new member intro thread but I have been looking around the forum learning how it works etc.. I see where it is member owned and funded. My question is to the Moderators and the members who maintain the site, what is a reasonable and sufficient monthly contribution to do my part as a member to help fund the site. Thanks to everyone who has commented and liked or read my post. Have a Merry Christmas, and take a ride on Xmas day, supposed to be a white one in my neck of the woods.
  3. Congrats, that thing looks awesome.
  4. I hope I get a chance to ride mine for that many miles. I would be smiling for a year. Something about cruising around on a Honda ATV that isn't easy to explain. It's like being a kid again and smelling that engine on that little Honda 50. You never forget it.
  5. Yes the 300 starts in the first half second no matter the temp, at least down in low single digits. I love my 300 it's just so nimble in the woods has all the power I need and just doesn't break down, I know they can't last forever but the bike is the Rocky Balboa of ATVs in my book anyway. It's been with me for around 21 years and no major repairs just regular maintenance items. I just can't say enough about a Honda 300 FW.
  6. Sled_22 the bike has never pulled a trailer or anything like that, no mud holes just rides to tree stands and it did visit Gunnison one season that transported previous hunter several miles to hunt area but other than that I am hoping first gear is also like new, I know it shifts very easy and is super quiet. Some have told me unless it was abused or if I don't plan to abuse it I will not have any 1st gear issues for a very long time if ever. Hoping for the best. All I do is hunt and take scenic rides, no plans to abuse this bike.
  7. Melatv- it is in as close to showroom as I will ever get, I about broke my arm getting my billfold out. It's a case wherein I knew it's full history from day one. It now lives with old reliable, my 93 300 FW. Couldn't be happier that they are friends.
  8. Our first date she cost me 30 Benjamin's but she is a looker!!!
  9. Everytime I go visit my new best friend we take a short ride, she just looks so enticing and puts a smile on my face.
  10. Thank you to everyone, the Bearclaws it will be then. I figured these would be the ones, the thorns are prominent in my hunting environment. Have a Merry Christmas.
  11. I need it for the 300. The 500 is literally like new, it's pristine condition. The engine still crackles like new ones when you turn it off, even still smells new. The wires underneath have no dirt on them at all, I am just ecstatic with the 06 Foreman 500 manual shift.
  12. Fishfiles That answers my question, about a year or so ago I had to replace battery so I was using the kick start which seemed to not have compression every other time I tried to kick it, but it would always eventually grab and bike starts almost immediately with the smallest turnover. Thanks for the information, will always make sure my battery is new every couple years, they are cheap Enough to do that. Is this the bearing still available or the one no longer available.
  13. I made a statement about my one way bearing on my 300. When I turn it off I hear something spinning for a few seconds. It doesn't do it every time but it does it most of the time. It's been doing it for a few years and I never thought anything about it as it hasn't affected operation but I read on this forum that it's the one way bearing spending and that it has something to do with engine breaking when coasting down hill or something. Is it something I should worry about or address.
  14. Wow I didn't know you could put studs in them, guess I didn't research them enough. I used to install studs in truck tires back in the day with an air tool. I was just curious if it being a radial vs Bias with the ITPs was important. And prices I quoted were a little off on the Kenda cheapest I found was like 430. I just don't like sliming tires or putting a ton of plugs in them. Since I ride in Heavily thorned areas I just wanted input on the 8ply vs 6ply or will they be just as susceptible to those ! things.
  15. I am in the market for new tires for my newly acquired Foreman 500. I use the machine to hunt mostly may do trail rides but will not engage deep mud or deep water. The hunt land has thorns some of which look like they could be sharks teeth. Although I avoid them it's inevitable that I will run over some. I am looking at Kenda 587 Bear claw 8ply or the ITP Mud Lite AT both in stock sizes for my machine. Kenda's around 380 and ITPs just over 300 hundred. My question is are the Kenda's in 8ply rating really that much tougher than the ITPs. I want to stay stock size and there will be minimum hard pack road use, will the Kenda have a noticeable difference in ride due to the higher ply rating. Thank you for any advice.
  16. The camo has faded over the years but it's been on there forever. It is over lapped in some places and if I peel it back some the camo is much more prominent in color. I think it has preserved the blue plastic plus the metal original gas tank. I can see under neath the camo where the normal rust spots are on the side of the tank which were there when I put camo on, they haven't changed much from what I remember. It's hard to believe bike is 27 years old and engine drivetrain wise while not new performs as it did when I bought it. I have never really abused the bike but early on I did ride it aggressively like pulling kids around in snow on tubes and a few small mud holes and very shallow creek crossings. I don't do that anymore and haven't for years just drive it around the deer camp and to and from my woods parking spot to walk to my tree stands. When not used both bikes are started once a week maybe toodle around yard and always kept full of non ethanol gasoline.
  17. Yes I have read hundreds of post dating back years on both sites which is how I learned you guys came here to help honda owners. My 300 was owned by a dealership owner in Fleminsburg Kentucky, I bought it from him when it was roughly 6 years old. Gave like 2,400 for it back in 1999. It's been a tremendous bike, but I started riding motorbikes at 4 and 5 years old. First one was the little Honda 50 last one was Yamaha 400 Enduro bright yellow. Around these parts Honda is king of reliability but some guys jumping on CanAms and the Yamaha Grizzly and a few Polaris. Side by sides took off but the ATV is coming back around here. Where I hunt my 300 can literally go anywhere it's small and nimble and powerful to haul two hunters and a 190lb field dressed deer out the woods. I only jumped on the 500 because of its condition and although I love my 300 there is a world of difference in ride and power between the two. I take both to hunting camp, 3K acres and use whichever is appropriate for the task at hand. Love my Honda's, and with this site and my manuals I can do needed PM's without a dealership. Thank you again.
  18. Thank you to all who gave a welcome shout out. I do enjoy reading the forum, I also stumbled across the other forum that someone said the longtimers kind of left to come to this forum over moderator or new owner issues. Regardless the info on these forums is priceless and I look forward to contributing.
  19. Ok I was just quoting the sticker on the side.
  20. Yes it is in pretty good shape but needs a few cosmetic things and new lower front brake lines. Needs new left hand brake lever, don't ask but it didn't break. I am amazed I have never touched the carburetor it just keeps humming along starting easy no matter the temperature, doesn't smoke although I do believe the one way bearing is week because it still spins when I shut the engine off. But only for a few seconds and not every time. I am not real sure about that it's just what I read on this Forum. I notice nothing different while running in gear etc. I really do like the new to me 2006 500 ForemanS. It is a very smooth strong bike that I was very fortunate to pick up. It's one where I knew the owner and we rode together since the 500 was new. It spent one season elk hunting in Colorado which accounted for like 40 hours. It sat unused the last 5 years, he got it out had dealer service it and clean carbs bike all checked out from head to toe. 126 hours of which I put on 11 this hunting season. 840 or so miles.
