  3. Hello everyone, I my dad's fourtrax has had some issues lately. My sister was riding it a few days ago and said that it was jumping out of gear. I didn't touch it until a few hours after she done riding it and had to move it out of my shop so I could work on something. I tried backing it out and it didn't move, only revved up. I put it in first, second, third and finally it moved in fourth. The engine has always has some sort of knocking coming from the engine. I know it wasn't rod knock or something else. It hasn't gotten louder just thought it may have something to do with it. Haven't taken it apart yet. Don't what could be causing all the gears to be gone and the shifter to feel loose unless something broke inside. Thanks!
  4. thanks. it took me a while to come up with this multi purpose tool
  5. Luckily I got it off. Didnt even need to buy any thing. Probably will need to buy it to get on but thats not importent now. Heres an easy way to get a clutch basket nut off!
  6. I got the nut off finally. Now im not sure where to get this tool or if I can make one or use something else.
  7. Ive been tearing down a 185atc 3 wheeler motor. Came out of a barn and had stuff in the intake. had lots of debris and carbon on the cylinder head. the valves were rusty and crumbling but other than that the engine is in good condition. Dont have a wiring harness or cdi box or any of the electrical stuff that requires it to run other than the stator and the thing under the pullstart cover. have a bolt on the crankshaft that allows the clutch to come off. not sure if it has reverse threads, a special locking mecanism or what. tried getinng it off with an heavy duty impact driver going counter clockwise. tried clock wise and nothing. I'm stumped. Id loom at a manual but haven't found a pdf yet and Ill probably buy one. I also would like to know if the engine can be washed in its current state. If it can what cleaning machine might be used.
  8. Hello eveyone reading this. My name is Travis, I'm 16 and I love all things with engines. I have a few toys to mess around on and a lot of projects when I run outta gas. I love helping others and hope you guys can help me with a few things. I have a 1986 fourttrax 250, 1980s 185 atc 3wheeler motor(no frame), and a Big Red. here are some pictures The Big Red is MINT. Was bought from a dealership brand new when they came out. Was used out on my farm since it was bought. It's been sitting for a while. Not supposed to mess with it yet 😞 The foretrax was pulled from a shed at my grandpas by my stepbrother and I about 3 or 4 years ago and the atc 185 motor came out of the barn at my farm while we were doing an estate sale. I bought the motor for $25 and a box a parts for it. I should have gotten all the parts for it but I had no clue it was in there and someone bought the other box of parts and the front forks. heres some pictures.
