Here’s the guts to that saw. She’s a dirty girl. Bottom end was a little crispy but crank still good!!!
also. This is what happens when the muffler bolts are stripped. Sacrificed the muffler but didn’t hurt the cylinder at all. Cylinder looks brand new as it should. There was no shortage of lube anywhere on this saw.

wow! i have to as have you ever come accross one in that shape before ? or would this be a top ten ?

I can't believe people never take the covers off to clean them out.  My covers come off after every time I use my saws for cleaning.

Looks like she needs to be cleaned up and brought back to life, and treated well in her old age!

This has to be one of if not the dirtiest saws i've ever seen. But the oil and filth really preserved all the paint on the exterior of the case. Whatever conglomeration of mix fuel that sat in the bottom of the case, not so much. It pitted the bottom end pretty bad but i'll just grind that out. Shouldn't hurt it any.  The little bit I've got through the parts washer, have come out really nice.

i had to ask, I've seen worked on some really nasty equipment, ha! one was a dairy slurry pump, that one i will never forget, even steam pressure washing didnt do any good, anyways ... good to hear the parts are in good shape, I'm looking forward to the refresh.

Got a little sidetracked with our new baby girl and this sweet old gal. Needed piston and rings and I put a new wrist pin bearing in as well. Cylinder had some transfer that I sanded out.
Stihl O44 red lever. 10mm pin. This was my holy grail saw that just fell into my lap. 5747C5F1-4777-4BC9-9A7E-09FA6C64CF97.jpegHere’s how I got it. Removed the covers.

I picked up a 20” light bar for this as it’s probably going to be my limbing/play saw. I’ll have to get a video whenever it get back into the woods to make wood this fall.

i've got a mac, and a craftsman, both are 18in saws, i love my mac, but i wish they did not put the auto oiling system in saws !. and the craftsman will just leak bar oil out all on its own, but it does cut great. i will never use another stihl brand saw again, they burned me big time.

Pretty rare to see anything but Stihl saws around here. It's most people's top pick including the loggers and tree trimmers. Had mine since 1990 and no troubles. My Stihl brush saw is an impressive animal too.

Has the Craftsman always leaked bar oil? A lot of times the oil tank vent get plugged which pushes oil out when it's sitting and going through heat cycles.

Lot of saws will leak oil if stored in sheds that get vary hot inside -- it pays not to fill the oil to the top.

some oilers are adjustable, i don't know about all of them, but mine is, and was using too much oil at one time, Brian .... the head mechanic at ace said should be close to using a half tank of bar oil to a full tank of gas... which is what mine is set at now, but can change due to using defrent brand bar oils....

yeah, i saw that from your other post, but my 039 stihl is adjustable..... does the rate change with a deferent  brand of oil ? if not, i reckon it's just the nature of the beast, or what's mentioned above, by  @sled_22 and @Melatv. if i might ask.... did you purchase these saws new, or used ?

Got another project on the bench, I should have taken some before pics but I just went to it...lol  It's a 1978 Husqvarna 162se.  I've had it for a few years now and finally decided I needed a bigger saw here, going to put either a 20" or 24" bar on it.

Added a basket case Husqvarna 61 to my collection, she's a runner now, the 162se if running also. Just have to either fix or replace the oiler on the 61 to handle the 20" bar.

The 61 was a mess. But a new muffler and a few other parts she looks good now.

Nice looking saw now.  Heard those 61s had some snort.
I’m working on a 2165 jonny that I mildly ported. And a personal saw the mighty 064 stihl I’m putting hd filter base on and full wrap handle.

2165s are basically a husky 365 special in red. There’s a few difference like brake flag and handle bar angle but the guts are all basically the same.
@_Wilson_™ yeah I’ve been around now and then. Been busy with #3 born in June and completely remodeling my kitchen and living room. So it’s been crazy. Finally getting back to cutting next winters wood.

So apparently VerticalScope has bought Aboursite. They are getting their fingers into everything now.
