Fire wood burners

Recommended Posts

I got some wood moved along the house. All the red oak my grandpa and I cut last fall. The fricken wood pile was loaded with Gardner (Gartner) snakes? Spelling? Must have seen 5 different ones. Seems there’s too many frogs around the house.

the 500 finally got some work this summer. Haven’t started it since may… and purred like a kitten.

Sled you will prolly uncover some mice nests when you start pulling the wood from that pile.  Better warn any women first, but could be fun not to....lol

I moved that wood pile. So I found all the nests already. I didn’t find a snake nest. Only one mouse nest. Wife doesn’t want me to bring any snakes in this winter either lol.

Took a ride back and got some pictures,  he stopped cutting because he ended up with twice the amount of wood he was expecting.

Not really wood burning but wood working. Building new kitchen cabinets for my house. You can see me drawer fronts, face frames, and doors. Sanding and paint soon. Then demo, then slap the bases together when I have my kitchen ripped out.

any chance of you getting some of the extra wood, in that deal ? IF YOU NEED IT ? that would be the perfect deal, if it's not too far to haul it over rough ground.

I can go back and clean up, pick up all that I want, I already grabbed most of the yellow birch that was there already.

I have the cheapo China junk grinder from princess auto/ harbor freight, it works awesome, after filing down the rakers I use the grinder, no more filing for me.

I have like 15-20 saws... and I hand file all my chains. So I am of no service to you unfortunately... I will say though, if your hands and arms can take the repetitiveness, hand filing isn't too hard once you get the hang of it and your chains turn out just as good or better than ground chains when I've compared to others.

Have you checked u-tube university?

Hands and arms are not what they use to be, u-tube- well, takes a bit of salt- some times a lot.  Have more faith with this site. lol

Thanks Sled.  Sounding good, but expensive especially with the Can. $ but, if it works that well one would expect someone on this forum to have some first hand experience with one. lol

Here's one that seems to get some good reviews.  It looks like and may be the same as the one I bought from Northern Tools many years ago.  I looked at Northern Tools and couldn't find the one that I bought.  I know mine does a super good job.  I have quite a few chains so I tend to do a lot at one time.

I've read where people say an electric grinder wears a chain down too quick but you can set it to take just enough off of the teeth to keep them sharp.

Hand sharpening is an art that I haven't come anywhere near to mastering.  If I did it more often I know I'd get better but probably not great.

Got another load of wood, I've got over 5 chord cut waiting to be split, and then 15 chord to cut and split, glad I got the grinder for sharpening the chains.

Last weekend I helped a neighbor with a yard tree he sick of mowing the walnuts up. I gladly split it into fire woods. Probably could have got some short logs for the mill but wasn’t worth messing with. So I’ll burn it.

I don't get to gather and process firewood much, but I enjoy the work.  Maybe because I do it so infrequently?  This weekend was our initial visit to our hunting leas to prepare for the following deer season.  We do this and that and gather firewood.  We gathered enough logs from a few blow downs to more than get us through our rifle season.  We will let it sit where we stacked it and then split about half of it on the next trip.

I forgot to mention that we did 5 loads of wood.  Easy day.  One guy sawed and the rest formed a chain through the brush to get it to the trailer.  Each year we start out like this and get what we need to last through the season.  We have discussed buying the wood as it all takes money for us to drive from various places to get there, but we enjoy hanging out, moving a few stands, and getting the wood.  AND eating like pigs and drinking various beverages.

I don't have the equipment here any more to push on the trees when I cut them , got a couple that are leaning the wrong way and don't want to damage the live oak with the swing  , that is next to it , when I drop it , so I had  asked the flea market venders to find me a rope snatch block and he came thru , I had the spool of rope , about 200 ft and hope to tie it off to my truck

This is going to be a pretty scary cut for me , the tree is a pine with bad damage 25ft up the tree , going to take a pic of this tree today ,
