Nikisil Bore?

Recommended Posts

Saw someone on other site said the watercooled engines all have Nikisil bores

I was like wait-what? after just honing out my Foreman 500 watercooled bore.....

I thought maybe all watercooled 2 strokes or something...maybe

Is there a reference to determine this

I couldn’t find anything in service manuals

Do ANY of our wheelers commonly have a Nikisil bore?

I don't know a lot about Nikisil coating , have read where it is a couple of thousandths of a nickel / carbon  alloy coating sprayed into the bore then honed , I thought it was a two stroke thing but read Jaguar and BMW are using it , when it wears thru the coating the jug would have to be re-coated or replaced , seems popular in 2 strokers , but has a tendency to flake off around the ports

Easiest way is to look at schematics and see if they offer oversized pistons for a particular machine.  If they don't, you can figure it's Nikisil.  If they offer oversized pistons for it, it's not Nikisil.

Hi Jeep

Thanks for clearing that up

I was pretty sure they weren’t ,but wasn’t sure, as this same guy was saying his Rancher 420 had a Nikisil bore....

I just got this 12 Foreman 500  and wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing something
