My Buddy Bought a 97 400.

Recommended Posts

My buddy just picked this 97 400 up for 2k. I haven’t seen it yet. He said the carb is leaking so float sticking he thinks, & needs tires. I personally don’t know anything about the 400s... anyone have any pointers, tips, tricks he needs to know? I’ll see if he wants to join our site..

Tough as nails, geared low.  Don't see many of them around here anymore, but some of the guys I ride with had them back in the day and said you couldn't kill them.

I have a 96 or 98 400 in my warehouse. One of the best and most reliable. 24 inch rubber. Very low ground clearance

Looks like my '97... just in a lot better condition than mine.

Well here’s the ole beast. I’m gonna giver a good bath before it heads into my garage for some very well needed tlc. Shindy carb kit, front brake conversion, all fluids change, & just a good go over. He had new tires & rims for it as well..think she’s been rode hard put away wet. Tires are 12.5 wide in rear hitting the muffler. Never seen tires that wide before…

that's a rare color...... i can't say I've ever seen a robin egg colored bike at the shop, there was a robin egg blue trx 350 i saw online one time sold on ebay for, (and for it's age) brought a good amount of money ..... ten to one a collector snatched it up, couldn't really tell if it had been painted, but it sure looked good, had all the labels stickers etc.

Well I managed to get the rear end fluid changed. It was milky & not a lot in there. Hub nut had a nail holding It on. So all is greased & red loctite now. The carb was not all that bad, but the afr screw was seized so we said screw it & I gave hime my 300 carb, installed his new jets & all was good. We had to tweak the afr screw & that was it. Ran like a champ. That was it for tonight. More to come…

My buddy corrected me.. I told him the same as I told u a all.. that I thought his quad was rode hard & put away wet… he asked how mine was the day I brought it home & put it in garage.. VALID point. It’s been used well over the last 24 years.
