Shortages

Recommended Posts

I am see more and more of things you can't easily find any more , yesterday I needed  a hydraulic hose , very common , 3/4 hose , #12 JIC F needed two , could only find one in the city of New Orleans , I had one in my truck and had the hose place crimp theirs on one end and mine on the other ----parts are getting harder to get for equipment

All the huydraulic stores  I went to and called say they are having a hard time getting the fittings , one told me it has been 3 weeks and he still has no #8 JIC fittings

Coors Lite Beer in a bottle is hard to come by and that hurts me to the bone , LOL --- I sent the wife to Walmart this weekend for our party , she had 15 things on the list and came back with 9 things , no garlic , no lemons , no crab boil in the bags , no Coors Lite in the bottle , I had to jump in the truck and go to 3 different gas stations to find them  ----  the shelves are starting to get empty

I think we are in for some ruff times to come , I think they are going to teach us to live without

What are somethings you'll are finding hard to get

Welcome to the land of "substitution" comrade.

This is what happens when you live under socialism.

Ammo is in very short supply here.  I'm glad I stocked up after the last shortage.  I have enough ammo to last at least 5 years maybe 10 years if I'm frugal with it.  Grocery stores seem to be well stocked except I haven't been able to find lettuce at any store in the area for the last two weeks.  IDK about Coors Light bottles in this area because I drink Yuengling or Iron City both of which are brewed in PA and are available in bottles or cans

I spent $189 on an electronics parts order at Mouser last week and had a difficult time finding alternative parts for commonly available components. Capacitors (high quality. low ESR and also audio grades) were the most difficult components to find. I ended up buying 3rd choice parts because the best cap brands were sold out with lead times of several months.

So those experiences with quality brand capacitor unavailability made me look closer at quantities in stock for other parts that I know that I will eventually need. I bought the last 7 high-wattage DC/DC 5 volt Isolated power supplies that were in stock, despite only needing two of them right now. I took the last 9 dual-ganged audio taper potentiometers in stock too, although I only need 5 of them right now. Major brand tantulum caps that I wanted were not in stock, so I had to leave them out of my order for now. I bought extra voltage regulator chips and PCB mount relays as well, because in stock quantities were low. Its getting to the point that I may not be able to provide for all of my hobbies for very much longer...?

The most painful thing for me personally right now are the inflated prices we gotta pay for everyday goods and supplies though. I took two empty 6 gallon gas cans with me last week to refill with 91 octane premium, to keep all of my stashed fuel supply topped up and my $30 purchase only got me 1.5 cans, where in the past two full cans always cost me less than $30.

Meat prices and canned food increased in price this month again too. So I spent an extra $200 on meat hoping to avoid spending more for the same stuff next month. My food budget is pretty stressed out right now, but I feel like I'd better continue to expand my food stocks in earnest before much worse price inflation comes to pass during this late summer & fall.

This coming winter will be a brutal and challenging one as a result of fuel price increases and sparse availability of fuels and many other basic necessities. Y'all get crackin' on your supplies preps now, cause what you are about to experience will be memorable for sure!

I got a garden planted, and I'm stacking ground beef deep in the freezer since it's been $1.99-$2.49 a pound here lately.

Gonna get a lot worse, I think.

oh wow... they still make Iron City?  That was my Pap's mainstay when I was a small child..and on weekends they only let you buy "lower power".

I've not been back up to Ohio to see a that logo in 30 years.

The Yuengling was the only thing I drank when I was traveling APAC for business.. Hong Kong, Shanghai, Australia and even S. Africa... I could always find a bottle of that stuff. Here at home I always liked ICE  in a bottle..but don't see much of it

biden keeps playing like he is the  guy  trying to rescue us , while actually he is the guy  pushing heads under water with the bottom of his foot , when are people going to see thru that >>>>  we didn't need to be rescued , things where looking up before this ask clown got into office >>>>> he is total lies , smoke and mirrors , with  fake media helping him along the way .... would guess it is too late now , we are going to get a heavy dose of what socialism is about , all the way from the stolen election  on down to supply , demand , cost and availability

costs are definitely up, supply issues are getting notably worse, and socialist pressures are running rampant

all the more value placed on staying healthy, providing as much independance as possible for myself, and enjoying the lifestyle I've built while it's here.  my wife and I struggled through some tough times financially when we were young. We know what matters in life and while I certainly wouldn't want to be in tough times again...we know how to walk that path.

Appreciate it , It is going to show up again , when it does ,  I need to stock ( hoard ) up when it comes back around , I usually buy the 6 packs, need to get about 4 6 packs , they go for about $5 a 6 pack

I stopped at my buddies seafood shop today , shrimp season opened Monday , he is getting $6.99 plus tax , so $7.70 a pound , highest price I ever seen for jumbo shrimp ( 10-15) , said I could have them for $6 flat ---- I did buy 6 crayfish pies , we already ate 4 for lunch

I have to ask what kind of electronics do you work on?  I work on vintage stereo stuff a little bit but I'm not very good at it.

Oh, and the shortages.  There's a shortage of smart honest politicians.

Cool! I like old stereo equipment too, just about anything vintage is generally decent quality repairable stuff!

I am an amateur, just a hobbyist, so I work on all sorts of things. Pretty much I'm interested and willing to try to fix just about anything my friends and neighbors challenge me with when I have time to tinker. I don't charge any labor for simple repairs (or issues that I cannot fix) so I see a lot of different, sometimes unidentifiable stuff. These last few years I am seeing a lot of computerized electronic controls going bad on farming and logging equipment, they're mostly cheap china garbage electronics dipped in potting with replacement costs in the $1000s of dollars. Everyone are becoming victims of the criminal corps nowadays...

I live off-grid so I use a lot of DC/DC converters (and homebuilt regulated power supplies) to power my electrical devices. We live in an AC world where everything plugs into the corporate grid, so whenever I want or need something I generally either have to convert an existing device to DC or design/build my own solution. A lot of my off-grid electronics needs are met by scheming up Mashups of various parts (many times unrelated components) and putting them together to make something custom designed and useful that can be operated on a 12 volts battery bank. A mashup system example that I created for Honda ATVs can be found in my programmable fan control unit thread here in the forums. I also make a simple 5 volt signal/relay circuit, adjustable coil output voltage, selectable 4x4 gizmo for OEM Honda conversions.

Mashup collections that create entire new systems (that don't exist already) are my favorite to design, engineer and assemble because each begins with nothing more than an idea, or a set of ideas. Sorta like a drug addiction, every success just leads to a greater craving to create something more challenging. You know what I mean by that.... 😎

So I spend a lot of my money just maintaining stocks of common electronics components. And since I always have a few new ideas in development at any given time, sometimes I gotta hit Mouser up for parts 3 or 4 times a month. He/she whom dies with the most toys (and becomes the most independent and free) wins the game of life ya know....

Because the rulers at the top of our planetary-wide hierarchy select, own and control all of them, politicians are employed to perform for the ruler.

Politics - noun, plural in form but singular or plural in construction

Poli - Latin word meaning: Poll = Many

tics = blood-sucking parasites

electronics - yep. For years, it's been horrible having to source and use cheap chinese crap components.

I have a collection of vintage guitar amps. Most dates range from 1967 - 1971.

original components lasted for decades...when I had to replace something, the new cheap stuff doesn't last..and many times it'll be enough off spec to cause a major chase through the entire signal/circuit chain...at some point it's not worth the time and money to salvage an amp to where I can say it is performing 100% of it's intended output.

I don't do but basic work on my end...for years I had a national concert company, so on stage, heat of the moment, I might diag and swap out a tube, quick resolder job of some cheap wave soldered current product.  I had a pro that made his living, doing all my more involved bench work.

he retired same year I sold my biz, but he still has a man shed in his back yard where he'll do work for close friends.

He churned through 9 of my old Kustom solid state rigs across this past December/Feb time frame.

and I had one old tube amp that had a power tube short and their design allowed that to blow the power transformer..dumb...anyway...the parts are no longer made in the USA and sourcing it from overseas took several weeks.

6 months later, I'm not sure I could get much of anything from those parts houses now.

it's gonna be a bit of a dry spell for supply chain for pretty much everything out there.

it's part of the plan...tell everyone they don't need to work, don't need to pay their bills, keep them in fear, say there is a shortage of everything, drive up costs...it's the worst kind of inflation...never mind the devaluation of the $ by flooding the economy with fake trillions that creates debt that our GDP simply can't support....this is easy math, and they've done it.

I worry for my kids and grands..they have worked hard to continually build their own worlds..homes, jobs, portfolios.

I'm on the down hill... have enjoyed my life. Have acquired the toys, had the adventures.. happy to sell and pass things on.

my preps for the past several years, have been about continuing to enjoy normal living. And covid shutdown proved that I wasn't wrong in stocking up various things.

We had meds, regular food, gas, and yes even toilet paper on hand when this mess hit. There was no panic to get to the store for my home.

but riding something out for 6 months is far different than the longer term storm they are brining our way.

I expect to loose my day job this year and while I'm coming up on 65, I'm not ready to retire. I want to keep working.

but I'm not the consumer that I once was... so I'm not contributing to this failing economy.

my cars are older, but paid for. My boat, camper, ATVs, guitars, guns, you name it in the usual toy box, are all purchases in the past and no new money is going to be spent.

So I've got some wiggle room to ride this one out. But for younger folks that still need to commute to work daily, car wear n tear, fuel, clothing, new home mortgages, furniture, the list is long and we all are familiar with it.

Life is good.  It's just getting some pressure that really isn't warranted. It's fabricated by bad people.

Since yall are on electroncs repair,I have one of these in my 83 GMC.  For the last year or two, it only works when it's hot outside, and then only the tape deck works, not the display.

Maybe this winter I'll pull it out and start a "build thread" on it and see if ya'll can walk me through it.  I'd rather learn how to do it than just send it off to be fixed or buy a new one.

Bought mine in 1993 from Crutchfield.
