biden keeps playing like he is the  guy  trying to rescue us , while actually he is the guy  pushing heads under water with the bottom of his foot , when are people going to see thru that >>>>  we didn't need to be rescued , things where looking up before this ask clown got into office >>>>> he is total lies , smoke and mirrors , with  fake media helping him along the way .... would guess it is too late now , we are going to get a heavy dose of what socialism is about , all the way from the stolen election  on down to supply , demand , cost and availability

Since yall are on electroncs repair,I have one of these in my 83 GMC.  For the last year or two, it only works when it's hot outside, and then only the tape deck works, not the display.

Maybe this winter I'll pull it out and start a "build thread" on it and see if ya'll can walk me through it.  I'd rather learn how to do it than just send it off to be fixed or buy a new one.

Bought mine in 1993 from Crutchfield.

I'm just a tech wanna be.  I can change parts out but I'm not very good at the diagnosing part of it.  Ok, I'm terrible at the diagnosing part of it.  Sometimes I get lucky and I'm the blind hog that finds an acorn  This is only a guess but it may be bad belts or the drive system needs cleaned up.  You might try taking the cover off and cleaning and lubricating all of the moving parts.  It wouldn't hurt to clean the controls either.

most power supply failures, in the desktop computers are caused by cold solder joints, an the pink resistor, i cant remember the ohms. it always overheats. as long as they can sell them like this they will. i cant explain why this resistor overheats, usually it takes an extra wire with it or more. i found over 17 cold solder joints, on one power supply. each involved a capacitor.

i did not check where they were made.. profit is profit. make it look good, for a bit, then fail.. sell it again.

Our local Parker store got pretty low on hose and fittings a while back.

Ammo is still scarce. Academy Sports doesn't even have any stickers out on the shelves for any.

Lowes has been short on electrical parts. FIL grabbed some boxes for me since we are wiring my new shop and there were very little on the shelf.

Wire is double what is was.

Screws and nails are double from last time I bought some.

Food hasn't been a problem that my wife has said anything about.

Gas 2-3 weeks ago for the gas-apocalypse was crazy/ Luckily we were off work that week and didn't have to leave the house for much.

I live just outside of a fairly small town, but have always been amazed at how many auto parts stores there are. sometimes need to visit more than one, but can usually get the basics of oil, hose, clamps, simple electronics. I think things will get tighter throughout the year.

I'm staying disciplined about keeping my preps well stocked.

no rain lately, means the lawn hasn't been mowed in 3 weeks. And I work remote, so a tank of gas lasts a long time.

I've not even uncovered the boat yet..just seems like there's been other things to do...but that tank is full, so I'll be able to enjoy some nice outtings when we do hit the water.

my bit of running around on the property is a mix of golf cart and the honda...so again, not a lot of gas.

I'm amazed month after year, that I can pull the fourtrax out of the garage, touch the start button and it fires right up.

I'm easy on it. Respectful to not abuse.  I won't have reason to complain if it does wind up needing something, and not sure what parts availability will look like on a near 3 decade old machine.

But for today, it works, it makes me smile.

I know what you mean.  I've "fixed" VCR's over the years by looking at them and finding something obvious like a broken belt.

The tape player on the Pioneer works fine IF the thing powers up.  It only powers up sometimes though, usually when it's warm outside, which usually means solder that's cracked and making a bad connection.

The digital display doesn't work either.

If I can find the original radio I'm going to swap them out, and then I can poke around in the Pioneer.

Just wait until we are solely reliant on China for silicon semi-conductor manufacturing.  The world is reliant on one company (TSMC) in Taiwan for a certain component. China may attempt to take ownership of TSMC - event Taiwan itself.

one of the things I learned early on in my business exec career, was that the Asian is a patient person. they think in terms of generations. Whereas Americans think in terms of the next commercial break, the next fad/trend, the latest model.

I had always postulated that China could embed firmware code into the chips that they sell us..waiting over time for multiple generations of product to be distributed and then simply by an encoded date routine , simple shutdown.

our infrastructure, our communications, our transport, etc...all simply going dark on a specific date...not just the latest, stuff, but chips dating back to say, 2010 chevy trucks and laptop computers etc.

There would be no backup system, like we do with hacker hostage today, even our backups, even our older products, would have already been loaded in the firmware and go dark.

but that conspiracy sci-fi stuff aside, they simply can choose not to send us the good stuff..build their own superior products and sell us the cheap low prices that we seem to crave.

topic of radios has come up before.. Baeofeng  is a good exampl.. we'd rather buy 2 hams at $39 than one good japan built or us built radio at $120.

Great aunt is still using a vacuum cleaner that looks like it fell off of the Rocket Man's backpack...70 years that vacuum has been there for her.. I changed out the contact brushes once about 20 years ago...that's the only service it's had.

but we are on our 7th cheap plastic vacuum cleaner...when something breaks, it's not worth the repair and parts cost..you just run to walmart and buy another piece of junk.

we've been screwed for a long time....now it's coming due.
