Hi: Would do this for me when you have a chance.

Check the continuity on the 5 pin connector as shown --- leave one meter lead on pin 1 at all times. Yes for continuity --- No for no continuity.

1 to 2 =

1 to 3 =

1 to 4 =

1 to 5 =

Hi: Thank you for the continuity test on the pins --- there should be no continuity between pin 1 & pin 5, that's what caused the main 1 30 amp fuse to blow. Pin 1 is connected the 30 amp fuse -- pin 5 is the ground side for the Fan  -- so some how pin 1 & pin 5 are shorted together inside the PCM -- you done well as a apprentice --- great working with you

Ever hacked into one of these things to see if they can be fixed/ repaired?

Not worth it now with the relatively low cost of new parts, but we know that the older a machine is, the more OEM parts cost, and eventually they'll be discontinued.  I'm just wondering if 15-20 years from now we'll be able to fix these bad ECU's (the 05-11 Foremans tend to drop the fan circuit) and keep these old machines running.

If searching for used the 09-14 FA and FPA use the same CDI/ECM/PGM-FI Unit/PCM or whatever you want to call it.. lol PGM-FI unit is what honda calls it on the parts finder which might help when searching.

Yikes, that's way too much.  That might be what fried your ECU.
