Uh oh. Flywheel puller stripped out

Recommended Posts

Picked up a rear end and swingarm from @shadetree today.

As usual, he took good care of me.

Wow I’ve never seen one that stuck before but glad you were able to get it off without damaging the crank

I’ve never had the opportunity use a plasma torch before but I’ve seen them and they look pretty handy

How do you cut with a plasma torch and not risk damaging/cutting into the crank?

Not sure how he did it.  When I go there he had it off.  End of the crank is a little scuffed up as you can see, but won't hurt anything.
Now the old flywheel that was on there......it was torched and in burnt pieces between welding the nut to it and then cutting it off.

I would lap the used flywheel to the tapered end of the crank.

You mean put some lapping compound on the end of the crank and spin the used flywheel on there?  Pull off, clean, install key, reinstall flywheel?

I would use fine compound and do a just a few spins while pressing it on . This will give you a good idea of how bad it may be.
