Operation 424 rebuild..

Recommended Posts

Today I’m in the garage going over the ATV in anticipation for tomorrows ride.  I just pulled my 424 knob apart to inspect & clean. Jez it was rusty, cable is frayed! Got it lubed & adjusted & thankful I have a spare ready to install when this cable gives up the ghost! I’ll prolly swap it out & rebuilt it later this winter.

@retro I’m using a galvanized cable, & lead free solder. Holds up well so far.

Can I find this online?

@Wheeler, I sent this young man your way.  He bought a 424 with a trashed cable (not disclosed by seller) and then almost got taken by a scammer on FB who claimed to have a new cable.

You still making them?

Fatty, click on Wheeler's name/photo, which will pull up his profile page, then click on "message".  That will send him a private message.

What is the new material you're using instead of lead free? (if a trade secret, you certainly don't have to answer that!)

@jeepwm69 no secret really, but I had to come up with a way to improve, as I had one guy say the lead popped off, & I had to show him via small video how to re do it. That is unacceptable as I’m charging for a service. So this new method is actually brazing rod. (This is how I made up Brayden’s cable) I made one up, put it in vise & yanked the tihs out of it!!  Didn’t budge! Super strong, but more difficult to make tbh. Worth the effort though! I used this method to make my own cable as well. U can see in the picture it was fraying bad.
