jeepwm69 7,605 Posted February 6, 2020 Went out this morning, trimmed a little on the plate that goes between the carb and cylinder so the top cover would go on correctly, and after that I fired it up. Started as it should after a few pulls. Idles and runs good, and after making sure the oil pump was pumping oil I put the bar and chain on it and buzzed it a little. Ordered a new chain for it on Amazon (Oregon, $12.99) and will do a little bucking behind dad's house when the new chain comes in. This thing uses a 3/8 low profile chain, .043 so not a lot of chain options, but apparently bumping up to a .050 bar and chain (where I would have more options) tends to leave these little lightweight guys a hair underpowered, so guess I'll try it out what the current setup and see how it does. For my intended use I think it will be fine.
Misterclean 421 Posted February 7, 2020 Yes it will rob power. That is a "narrow kerf" chain specially designed for small Stihl saws. Kerf is the fancy word for distance between the points of the left cutter and the right cutter.

Kerf is the fancy word for distance between the points of the left cutter and the right cutter. A easier way to explain “kerf” is: kerf is the width of the cut. Carpenters and wood workers use this term a lot referring to their saw blades when the amount of wood being removed with a cut is critical.
