I am a cheap skate , I swipe some Honda Bond on a re-used o-ring as long as it ain't damaged

yes, you have the correct gaskets (o-rings ).

i am a cheap skate as well, but on some things..i dont do the cheap way..lol

And once you get to the older machines about as hard as a rock on the orings. I very seldom messed with removing the snorkel tube unless insects or mice plugged them up.
