justahobby0 0 Posted August 21 I have a barn find 2001 Rubicon TRX500FA. Got it running. Shifted into gear with choke on and engine rpm to high trans grinded a bit then no shift. Checked shift motor it was locking up so I replaced it. Nothing, but now had codes in dash for angle sensor, replaced sensor and reset. Codes are gone and the dash is displaying gears and mode correctly however engine will not go into any gear. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
jeepwm69 7,721 Posted August 21 First thing you need to do is run an oil pressure test. The early Rubicons were plagued with oil pump problems, which would frequently kill the Hondamatic. The Hondamatic is considered "non serviceable" by Honda, but there is a guy who rebuilds them IF they aren't too far gone. The guy who rebuilds them is named Brian Betram. He's a member here but isn't on the forum a lot. Don't run the engine until you can check the oil pressure. If you have a relief valve stuck open, it will starve the Hondamatic for oil, ruining it.
