Don't know that it hurts anything, but it's annoying as !. I've learned not to mess with cheap brake pads. I use OEM or EBC now. Tried the really cheap (like $10) sets and they were useless.

jeepwm69 7,606 Posted July 10, 2021 Had a busy morning. Have a guy driving all the way from Atlanta Georgia for this foreman. Last night it hit me that I never tested the fan control sensor. I know the wiring and ECU are both good as the fan kicks on when you ground the wire, but in the limited running I’ve done with this thing the fan has never kicked on. That’s not unusual as these air cooled foreman fans don’t come on much unless you ride long/ hard in hot ambient temps. Still though, would hate for a new owner to run it and the fan never kick on and have it overheat. So I set my alarm early this morning and figured I would swap in a known good one from my 09 foreman. Rode the 09 last week and the fan was cycling on and off so I know it’s good. Got out there this morning and I got the sensors swapped in about 30 minutes (I actually put one in my 09 out of one of the engines in my shop, and kept the one from the 07 out so I can test it) While I was under the wheeler, I noticed a little bit of oil on the skid plate. Not enough to drip under the wheeler, but it was there. Wiped everything down well and ran it out to the farm and back. Sure enough, had a tiny leak where the stator bolts up to the rear crank case cover. Crap. Guy sent me a text saying he was on the road about an hour prior to this, so now my word/ honor is on the line. Pulled a stator off one of the engines under my workbench, slapped a new gasket on it, new crank seal, and got to work. Managed to swap stators out in about 2.5 hours, including an oil change. Ran it back out to the farm and back, no leaks. Verified new stator was charging and buttoned everything back up. Went ahead and swapped out the left floorboard that had a couple of cracks in it with one that was minty. That was minor but given how good the rest looks it was bugging me. OCD sucks sometimes. This one looks good and runs perfectly.....and no leaks! I listed this machine for $3800 on Craigslist and Facebook. I have had 15+ people message me about it in less than 24 hours, Including several offers $3K-3400 sight unseen. Market is completely nuts right now. I guess everything is either junk or priced through the roof. This should be a good one. I take pride in my work, even though that probably means I’m paying myself two or three dollars an hour when I fix one to flip like this lol .
jeepwm69 7,606 Posted July 10, 2021 Oh and the stator that was leaking had a new gasket on it, but when I bolted it on, apparently the bottom of the gasket worked its way up off of the sealing surface thus the leak. Glad I caught it before I sold it.
jeepwm69 7,606 Posted July 10, 2021 I swear this Honda apparently didn’t want to leave me. Met the guy at the local parking lot, got on the foreman and the ! thing wouldn’t start. It would turn over in occasionally cough and it backfired a time or two, but couldn’t get it to start. Needless to say (in his words) “I’m worried and you’re embarrassed” Took the spark plug out, looked at it and it was dry. Hit the start button and saw gas shoot into the cylinder. Put the spark plug back in and it fired right up and ran like a top. So is this a spark plug on its way out, or did the float get stuck and not allow gas in (had fuel shut off on the trailer). Anyway, he rode it around for 20 minutes or so, asked lots of questions, and loaded it up. I got back to the house, put the baby down for a nap, and unhooked my trailer, and was walking over to get a beer and realized I had the keys to that foreman in my pocket. Luckily I don’t think he had gone far and I called and met him about five or 6 miles out of town and gave him the keys. I think that particular Foreman must’ve been attached to me lol I will say the market is hot. I have been getting blown up all night and all morning by people wanting to buy this one. 3
_Wilson_™ 6,566 Posted July 10, 2021 (edited) oh man ...... lol that's rich, now you have me worried about that tractor.... ive had days like that.... (sigh)..... just good to hear it wasn't the kill switch. lol! Edited July 10, 2021 by _Wilson_™
jeepwm69 7,606 Posted July 10, 2021 I’d still love to know why it wouldn’t start. It has always fired up and run great and then when I finally try to sell it it acts like that. Had I thought to take my tools with me I could have tried a shot of starter fluid or a new spark plug to see if either of those worked, although just removing the spark plug, wiping the electrode with my finger, and putting it back in seem to work fine, which tends to make me lean towards an iffy plug. I told the buyer to come here and sign up, warned him about over tightening the drain plug when he changes the all next, with a few other pointers.
_Wilson_™ 6,566 Posted July 11, 2021 has me baffled, I'd go with the sparkplug 1st, but I've seen them bad right from the box, i would imagine others here have too, how old was it ?
jeepwm69 7,606 Posted July 11, 2021 Honestly no idea. I’ve had this one for several years and worked on it a little at a time. It looked ok but who knows. If the guy who bought it shows up here I’ll suggest to him that he put a new NGK plug in it.
PROV 1,439 Posted July 13, 2021 Got back from the hunting shack yesterday. 4 days of which we rode 3 and put on 190 miles. It was a bit warm but an epic ride. Rarely covered the same ground. Rode old logging trails and the remains of 100 year old railroad logging spurs. Went through everything from swamp, beaver dams, sand, rock, clay, steep hills you name it. Saw deer with fawns, ruffed grouse with babies, black bear, tons of hawks, great grey owl, lots of moose tracks (didn't see one) and listened to the timberwolves howl. Even found an eagle nest on a picnic table at a hunting camp!! I had the Rubicon and we rode my buddy's Yamaha 850 R-spec also. Break in was done so it needed to be put through everything we could think of. 4500# winch worked great too since I sank it to the doors in loon s--t. 8

Fishfiles 20,145 Posted August 15, 2021 I bought this 300 yesterday , it use to be mine a couple of years ago , got it back for $500 , 96 2wd , has a 250 Fourtrax rear end under it and a custom front disc brakes conversion ------- it needs swing arm bearings and the carb cleaned , I am going to sell this one , I would part it out , the rear end is worth $400 as it has been welded to fit under a 300 and the custom built disc conversion is worth at least $250 , I'd sell the whole bike for $1,000 like it is
Goober 1,555 Posted August 28, 2021 (edited) installed my rebuilt oil sensor, aligned the steering. took the quad for a muddy trip to the cliff lines. about 3 miles steep rocky grades, the fan hadn’t come on. I left in superlow and the fan finally came on. As expected The oil light did not come on; the engine was warm but not hot. Very happy Edited August 28, 2021 by Goober

Goober 1,555 Posted August 28, 2021 (edited) Yup this is one of two 86 i have. I noticed an occasional loud clicking while going over rough terrain. Not engine related but maybe suspension or driveline. I found the rear carrier loose so want to take it back out i hope is not front shaft assembly oh well looks like I’ll be disassembling the front knuckles this winter Edited August 28, 2021 by Goober
