Hello all, I'm back. Still having issues with my 08 420fe es rancher. I've had little time to work on it, but I have followed the manual in troubleshooting as best as I can. Using a multimeter. I can not find any problems. But still - flashing on shift indicator . No patern for a code. Manual says when this happens, check communication wire. Check! Also when turn key, do not hear the fuel pump. The mil and temp comes on for a few seconds then goes out. The only thing I haven't found in manual yet is how to check the engine stop/ fuel relay itself. Like ohms between pin outs. I am going to start searching for a new PCM.

Hey there Jeepwm69, just letting you know, I'm gonna work on the Rancher today. I will post what I find. Maybe help some other poor soul out. I do want to thank you and Mel for the help. Would appreciate anything you might think of for me to try. I'm starting over at the beginning of the troubleshooting guide. Just in case I either did something wrong or missed something. Fuses was one of the first things I checked. The stop engine relay and the fuel relay are combined on this atv. I'm gonna look for a pin out for it, or the test procedure in the manual. I didn't get to mess with it today, as I was helping a neighbor all day. There is a wire that is for communication to the meter/display , I'll check it when I get back on it. I do thank you for all the help. There's a lot I don't know about this atv. Never really had to work on one. To many sensors. Thanks and have a great day.

Well sir, there is no pattern to the flashing - . I could not find anything like the liquid tape. I did however brush the exposed wiring very well , taped it and checked continuity of the wires. Still have the same issues. I'm trying to get ahold of some guys hoping one might have a HDS tester. Again, thank you for the help. Will be back at it, hopefully tomorrow.

I got ya, Mel. I'll run in to town and get some of the liquid tape. Will do what you are saying. Any other ideas what's up with the flashing - on the gear indicator and the fuel pump. I checked the angle sensor. It seems ok , by the manual. Thank you so much for the help. I need all I can get.

I took a jumper from the Bl/R at the coil and hooked the other end to battery +. Would not start. When I turned the ignition on, I'm not hearing the startup noises or the fuel pump running. I did however find some wires that the coating was wore off . I had looked over the wiring earlier, did not see this. It was about six wires coming from the black 33p ECM/PCM. The wire looked like it had been exposed for a while. QUESTION: Should I strip these wires back and cut out the sections that were exposed, splice in new wire? It's stran wire and was a little corroded. I seen no burnt places where the wires might of shorted.. I had little time today, hopefully I'll work on it tomorrow. Again, thank you guys for all the input. Going back to troubleshooting via manual. Will be looking for any suggestions that come my way. I'm about ready for a rubber room. Have a great evening.

And thank you jeepwm69. This 420 is my legs around the farm. Having a bad luck run on equipment. Wife went to mow, deck won't engage. That's 2 tractors, 2 riding mowers, 4-wheeler and my 91 Caddy lost it's brakes. Second cutting of hay needs started and fooling around.lol. Thanks guys, we'll hit it again tomorrow. Ok, I'm working on it now, I have the service manual gonna follow the troubleshooting, only have a volt meter. Do what I can. Thanks a lot for responding. I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

My 08 420 Rancher cranks but won't start. MIL comes on for few seconds then goes out. No codes. Have flashing - on the gear indicator. Don't hear startup buzz or fuel pump when first turning on switch. Can someone please help me with the problem?
