  1. Frazier Park?  Great memories! I lived at the Cuddy Ranch (Lockwood Valley, across from the BLM heliport/station) for several years, raising cattle and Arab horses. I worked there as a geologist. There is some great riding, in all directions.

  2. I have been using a Samsung tablet with Backcountry Navigator  for mapping my route, which worked great until the tablet pooped out. I am looking for a cheaper tablet, with a built-in gps, and a model with a replaceable battery. [Tired of throwing these away just because they lose all value once the battery dies]. Any suggestions?

The Backcountry Navigator software has been great, because topos and satellite imagery can be downloaded before heading out into no-cell service land. I generally mark the trails and paths I will take before the trip, and this saves a lot of time. It has also been helpful to mark my quad when leaving it in deep brush and hiking off somewhere else... no problems finding it.  Took a 65 mile ride recently, with a lot of "short cuts", and having the satellite images really helped.

  3. Hello everyone. New member here... Menard LaPue from Nevada.  Same guy as at the other forum...   I have two honda quads that I work with, mostly looking at rocks. I either 4wd the truck to the mountain, take a quad, a horse, an electric bike, or walk. I often get 200 miles from any real support, including no phones, not becasuse I want to, but because that is where the particular rocks happen to be. How I get there just depends on how rugged and and what the travel restrictions are. My next trip is a get-outa-the-house campout, down southward to warmer weather towards Utah/Arizona. Probably some remote hot spring, quad camping, and finding new rocks. Lately I have been chasing shorelines from a million year old lake, but, whatever...
