  1. Hello, I just rebuilt my 98 450es, idles beautifully, quiet, and smooth. just before the teardown and still, it will not rev-up. something electrical has happened. b4 i go further. has anyone experienced an issue similar. engine will not rev up without backfire. I know the cam to crank are in line. any idea's ?
  2. Wilson, I used some we gasket remover to clean the crankcase. I had to apply it a couple of time and gentle scrap it off with a razor blade. At a 90 degree angle, not to cut the aluminum.
  3. Yes Wilson, I agree. I have seen silicon overboard. last thing I want to do is interduce something into the oil system. keep it clean - keep it simple. This rebuild has taken alot of down time. I'm not interested of a redo. lol Thanks for your input. You guy's are great! right now I'm waiting on new dowel pins for the cylinder, as I screwed the old ones up trying to remove them. Ya that's me, lol
  4. no Wilson, not at all. that looks terrible. only spot of some oil residue was at the failed cam chain tensioner. otherwise clean as far as oil. I think i'm going to use a very thin line of hondabond on the crankcase/ cylinder gasket. Thanks.
  5. Yes it was hard to get the crankcase clean. Going with a new cylinder. Thanks
  6. Thanks Wilson. Sorry for the late reply.
  7. Thanks Orvis, Yes crankcase to cylinder. T he manual for dummies said to. reason i ask is because on disassembly, it looks like some kind of sealant around the stud bolts?
  8. Hay All, hondabond on cylinder base gasket ? yes or no.
  9. Thanks for the tip. I will check it out.
  10. Yes Fishflies, you probably can use heat. But why distort the aluminum cover? Problem was aluminum oxidation between the adj. Screw and the cover. Reinstall with a coating of grease. Thanks for you response.
  11. Thanks Fishfiles I got it. FYI you cant use heat because of the o-ring. I just put the retaining nut back on the screw and hit it out of the cover. replaced it with a coating of grease. Thanks for your response.
  12. Hay all, I am reinstalling the front cover on my 450es. I have found the clutch adj. screw will not turn. I have used pb blaster on it, but it will not budge. any ideas ?
  13. Thanks Wilson/87Iroc. Will do. Akatv also thinks it's not necessary to buy new washers. Thanks you all!
  14. Thanks bcsman. I know that there are two sizes, but I'm ready to get this bike going, but I want to do it right the first time.
  15. Hay folks: when installing the head, Clymers manual says to replace the washers under the acorn nuts. Is that necessary? not to be cheap, but it takes 10 days to get parts here. I have all new parts already in the mail.
  16. Thanks Toodeep. I had it wrong! That could of been nasty. I found this bike cheep, now I know Y. It has oil pump failure, witch I believe led to the cam chain tensioner to cam chain to who knows what else. I'm in the process of tearing it down. Wish me luck. Lol
  17. I will try to repost. Yes I know I have to remove everything. Q is are the marks supposed to be at 12 o'clock on the cam? Right now they are not. ?
  18. Hello, need help. I have a 98 450es with a bad chain tensioner (not working at all) . The bike ran great up to the time parts were on order. last time I ran it, it wouldn't rev. and backfired. So I pulled the front cover, and as I thought the chain has a lot of slack. Here's the Question: I pulled the crank sight window, it's at TDC. (2 marks) and the cam sprocket mark is off ( between 12 to 1 oclock ) . shouldn't the cam sprocket marks be at 12 oclock ? the valves are relaxed. I'm replacing the tensioner and chain. Any Help would be Appreciated.
  19. looking to get in contact with AKATV for some repairs/advice. if someone could point me in the right direction will be appreciated.( [email protected] )
