The thing I did NOT like about the Suzuki motor in my FIL's AC300 is that the intake runs downhill into the engine, and the carbs on these things are as bad as the 350 Ranchers when it comes to float needles not sealing.  You end up with a crankcase full of gas if you forget to shut the fuel valve off and leave it sitting.

The engines are a PITA to work on too, sitting back in the back of the frame like that.  I had to replace the starter reduction gears in his, and I had a helluva time getting the left engine cover off to access it.

That said, for late 90's, a machine with High/Low/Super low, front diff lock, IRS, and disc brakes all the way around was WAY ahead of its time.

Ditto!!! They were an awesome atv.  I've had my eyes out for a clean kingquad 300 for a long time.  Put those things in super low and they will pull anything. They are great on trails with the independent suspension.  Suzuki could have sold that design for a few more years.

  2. I still have a good bit of wood to split and I'm thinking it is time to upgrade my splitter.  I have the old mtd 6hp 22 ton splitter.  It is a good splitter.  It will split anything I put under it.  It is just slow as heck.

Yesterday was working on my brakes of the work truck , my 1 3/16 combo wrench disappeared and I only had one 1 3/16 with a box end , socket wouldn't work , and the crescent wrench was starting to slip , went to and called all  the auto parts , Lowes , Napa and no one had it , so went to Harbor Freight , and the only way the sold it was in a set of 4 ICON tools, I never needed any of the other wrenches but had to buy the set for $80 with the taxes as I need this truck running for Monday morning , feel violated

then I didn't have a E18 1/2 drive socket for the hub to rotor/drum bolts , I used a 9/16 spline socket to get them off and it did do a good job and not strip or damage the heads , but it was 3/8 drive and I broke a Craftsman adaptor getting them off with the impact ,  so Lowes sells Craftsman but only had the E18 in a kit of 28 impact quality  metric and us allen socket wrench up to 3/4"  , torx and E drive sockets , it was $159 without the taxes , WOW $180 to use one socket , but  I can justify the purchase as I use the large size allens and torx all the time at work ---don't have a pic of the set

That's a bummer.  Have you used the ICON tools yet?

How do you mount the floorboards and how much do you want for them? I was planning on building something like that. it looks like the one you have replaces the main skidplate, and if so, that would be a two for one for me.

You just re-use the existing holes for the skidplate.  I never used it.  I bought it awhile back and never got to put it on my machine.

  5. Well I sold the foreman 350.  A family member moved down south and wanted something to ride around on.  I need the space at the moment.  I am still trying to get my garage in order.  I wonder what old Honda is in my future?

Up for sale is a rear rack, front bumper with winch plate, floor board assembly, and brand new unopened front decal.  The rear rack is solid and straight.  It has a few dings.  Front bumper is solid and straight as well.  Same with the floor board.  The decal is brand new in an unopened package.  These decals don't come up for sale often.  Make me an offer.

    Thanks

Never used them myself but from what I've read hit or miss.  For the price hard to pass up, but you know what the word is on this site, never never buy Chinese, only OEM....

Their saws are definitely intriguing.  I would like to grab a saw in the 50cc range.  I've watched all the videos on them.  The bad thing about buying used equipment now is you could be buying a Hutzl saw with Stihl covers and not even know it.

In the process of cleaning up my shop I rediscovered an MS180 a buddy gave me.

He loaned it to someone and they ran it with the brake on and smoked the clutch and melted part of the crankcase.

Have a replacement case and clutch from Hutzl. Need to get into it and see if I can get it going again

Have you had any  luck with the Hutzl parts?

  9. Well I woke up to an icy mix this morning.  It's been raining off and on all day but that hasn't stopped me from messing with the Homelite Super 2.  I picked the saw up off the auction site for $40 bucks.  I put some fuel in it and it fired up and died after about 30 seconds.  I thought to myself oh boy.  I  took out the plug and realized I flooded it,  Once I unflooded the saw and tuned the carb to my fuel mixture it has ran perfect.  I did end up snapping the pull rope.  After replacing the rope I took it out back and put it through some paces.  It's running pretty well and the oiler is doing it's part.  I know a lot of people hate these saws but I think I like it.  I think it will be a great saw to keep on the back of the sxs.

Ha I picked up an 009 a couple years ago and very happy with it.  I use it mainly for limbing and cutting 3" and under branches.  But it doesn't bog down at all if I continue up the branch to larger areas.  Very nimble and easy to handle, a little spark plug of a saw....

I noticed the vibration right away but I can tell it's a good old saw.

  11. Well I noticed you guys were talking about welders and battery powered tool in another thread so I figured I would create a post on the subject.  I have never had a great setup to work on my atv's and things until recently.  I have slowly been trying to build up an arsenal of tools.  I'm not a mechanic by any means.  What a lot of you guys can do in an hour or two is gonna take me a day.  I have purchased a few things from Harbor Freight in the past year.  The quality of tools is night and day from what they used to be.  I'm not doing this everyday so it makes no since for me to go out and spend crazy money on tools.  I ended up getting a Vulcan Migmax 215 at a parking lot sale for a steal.  I just used it to install some mesh on my 5x10 trailer gate.  For what little welding I've gotten to do I'm hooked.  I've been using a grinder for cutting and while they have their place I would like to get a saw designed for metal cutting.  I'm leaning toward getting a metal band saw for cutting.  I'm a sucker for older vintage things.  So I don't mind buying old tools.  So what are some of your favorite tools that you have around that you just can't live without in your shop?
