sweet!!  was your pop the original owner ?? because those tires look like the h-track tire that each brand new 300 came out with around my area ....  sure looks as though she's been VERY well taken care of .... one thing i would do is take this clamp off, or remove the choke cable from underneath.

Yes he was the original owner and yes those are the original tires! That clamp is going, it was a mount for a windshield. The front plastics are cracked in one spot but other than that it's in very nice shape I think.

one tested method .... is lighty tap on the old cdi ... then try and start the bike, if the bike starts tap on the cdi again, if the bike acts up, then more then likely it's a solder joint in the unit.... some here have had good results baking these in an oven....i myself have never had to try this but... being this is the rare 88 ... might be worth it, if anything.. i would hang on to that old cdi unit.

Well here's the issue I bought the machine from my dad and he put on a $25 CDI last year that I did not know about. So now I'm positive that's the issue lol

Gear reduction.  Your 350 is geared very low from the factory.  Some of the newer machines need gears swapped in to be able to effectively turn bigger tires.

For example, my 09 Foreman came from the factory with 25" tires.  If I want to run 28's on there, that's about a 12% increase in size.  To get me back to stock final gearing I'd need to install a GR in the motor
(in the case of that era foremans, a 15.5% reduction is available).

On a truck or Jeep, you swap the gears in the differentials if you want to run bigger tires.  On ATV's, you swap either the clutch gears or the secondary gears in the engine to change up the gearing.

Gotcha! Thanks! I definitely don't want to change the gears.

I put 26" Mudlite XL's on the kid's 300, and honestly I feel like it could use a small GR.  I've run 26" Mudweisers on one without issue, so light 26's or a GR for anything bigger or heavier for me.

Not to sound like a noob but what does GR stand for? Lol

LOL.  I've been running them on my 09 Foreman for 5-6 years.  I did blow a ujoint when I was driving through/ over some ruts one day.  Rear wheels were spinning and when I dropped in the rut I heard a clatter and the rear end quit pulling.

Other than that they haven't caused me any problems.   They are heavy though.  VERY heavy.

You got that right! They are tanks!

  7. Anyone out there with experience with tires on a TRX 300FW 4x4? I'm really afraid of over tireing it and not being able to get the power out of her. My cousin put blackwater's on his and it could not turn them well. Any thoughts?

  8. Well I did get some flack for this but my 86 350A has Kenda Executioner's on it now. I took her out mudding last weekend and it was a beast! They have a similar lug design to the stock foreman tractor treads and I love them. I went with 25-10-12 size on all 4 corners. They are heavy but the bike has plenty of power for it and they ride well on and off trail in my opinion. The extra weight and width has also made the bike super stable to ride. 10 out of 10 would recommend.

  9. Ok fellas, I am starting my next quad as the title says this is a 1988 TRX300 FW Fourtrax, and it will be for my girlfriend. The machine is in pretty nice shape like my others and all it needs is a CDI box I think, as It is not getting spark. I will post pictures tonight of it's as is condition. Anyone with history on this bike let me know if I'm on the right track with the CDI box. Thank you!

  10. Wade t sure where to post. I have a friend selling a 2010 Rincon 600? For $1000 if I want it. This seems like a smoke show of a deal since I know it looks factory new and has seen very little use. I just don't know much about the newer bikes. Can any one shed some light on this bike for me? Any issues typical of them? Thanks!

I found this set of horns at the flea market and picked them up for $10 , going to hang them up----

What type of deer do you'll think these came off of , I don't think it is local horns , the guy I got them from said they were in a storage room he bought at auction

The 87 350D was the oddball.

86-87 350A had one electrical system

87 350D was a one year only electrical system

88-up was a third electrical system

They don't interchange, so if you have an 87 350D, most if not all of the electrical system is going to be specific to that one year/model.

Hard parts should all interchange, but if you're doing any electrical make sure anything you get is specifically off of an 87 350D.

Thanks! What about the drive line? I read the Foreman had a higher tow rating of 850 lbs? Is there a different rear end in it than my 1986 350A, or did they just adjust the rating?
