Baz 0 Posted December 30, 2023 Hi All, New member so any help appreciated! Recently bought the above at auction and works great so far, no major issues that I haven't managed to fix myself. Been away for 2 weeks with work and returned home to a dead battery (not a surprise as think it sat dead for a few months before I bought it) put the charger on and fired up straight away and going through the gears no problem but have noticed that the gear selector indicator on the display is just blank. No flashing N no -- displayed just totally blank. As a bit of background the display did have some water in it when I got it so took it apart and drained/dried best as I could although some minor moisture still may be present within the display but was using the quad in heavy rain about 3 weeks ago but no other issues with the ES system, gears all change fine, just doesn't display the gear it's in. Any help greatly appreciated!
AKATV 824 Posted December 30, 2023 Sounds like it has dropped programming, it is quite common on the 450ES and 350ES models if they sit for extended periods with out a battery, run with no battery in place or have a bad voltage regulator. The only option is to have it reprogrammed, or replace circuit card with another known good one There is a CHANCE you might be able to disassemble and clean it well with isopropyl alcohol, carefully blow dry and reassemble if it just has a bad or dirty contact area, but if not, chances are once that data is corrupted it has to be reprogrammed Have you lost the miles/hours or did they change to all zeroes, nines or some really high or low number? That is what usually happens as well when the data packet gets corrupted -AKATV
Baz 0 Posted December 31, 2023 Hi @AKATV When I bought the quad, the display had some errors before, so it only shows the Kms travelled and the clock, the buttons to change these don't work but the Kms travelled still count up but the clock is always reset to 1:00 when I start up the quad. The Kms figure hasn't reset following this error that's developed, only thing I've noticed is that the gear position isn't shown. When I turn on the ignition before starting the engine, the display goes through a boot up sequence, that shows each available gear that takes about 10 seconds before resting at the normal display and the gear numbers do show but only as part of the display boot up, if that makes any sense! Possibly the bottom of the PCB has been in water for an extended period, hence the push buttons on the display don't work
AKATV 824 Posted December 31, 2023 You might want to check your red/black wire, which is your constant power to the speedometer that’s what allows it to hold the clock time
Baz 0 Posted December 31, 2023 See attached some photos of what the PCB and other parts look like after opening it up today
Baz 0 Posted December 31, 2023 Issue found I think after 2 plugs on rear of PCB removed
AKATV 824 Posted December 31, 2023 (edited) Definitely some water damages… That red and black wire that you pulled out of the harness plug is the reason it will not hold clock memory. -AKATV Edited December 31, 2023 by AKATV
Baz 0 Posted December 31, 2023 Thought that was the wire you were talking about, would that card be repairable/salvageable? Or just stick with it as it is?
AKATV 824 Posted December 31, 2023 You might get away with trying to repair it but in all honesty, water damaged cards have a high failure rate, even after repair You can bypass the plug and solder the red wire directly to the board and try replacing the capacitor, but I wouldn’t have high hopes I would stick with it as is and keep your eyes open for a possible second hand replacement circuit card, your display is in good shape and you could just swap that over if you found one -AKATV
