Kevin nunley 0 Posted April 4 Help, my combination meter is not working and the atv is not shifting in auto or esp. what I have done. went completely through the #20 trouble shooting steps which leads to a faulty combination meter my question is would a faulty combination meter create a shifting issue? Please help.
jeepwm69 7,635 Posted April 4 @AKATV iirc you just did an early Rubicon meter. Is a functional display necessary for proper shifting?
AKATV 824 Posted April 4 The speed signal is routed through the speedometer and goes to to the ECU. If ECU does not see the speed signal, it will shut down shifting and put it in limp mode -until you turn it off and then back on again until it detects the fault again Kevin, when you say meter is not working what exactly is it not doing? ie - not powering up, not registering speed, burned out display, etc.. A few pictures would help a lot with it powered up and headlights turned on so the meters back-light is on, if you can -AKATV
Kevin nunley 0 Posted April 4 Yes sir. the back light works but it does not display anything else. I can turn the key on and pull the main fuse and reinstall it and everything works in the meter but it will still not make a shift. I can get pictures but it will be a few minutes as the four wheeler is in my shop.
AKATV 824 Posted April 4 (edited) So it does register speed properly when its working? also, when your meter is working properly the gear position indicator should be flashing a code If you have a fault, it’ll blink a number of times, do you see it doing this? -AKATV Edited April 4 by AKATV
Kevin nunley 0 Posted April 4 I would have to verify that tomorrow here are the pictures the second picture is when I turned the key on first picture is after I pulled the main fuse and reinstalled it as soon as I cycle the key off and back off it’s blank again maybe my shifting issues is causing the meter issue. I just know I am lost at this point.
AKATV 824 Posted April 4 Thanks for the pictures. I would definitely say that you have a power related problem, most likely on the circuit board of the speedometer if it’s not powering up properly, I can tell you a few things to check with a multimeter if you wanted to remove the top cover of the speedometer when you have time Also, when you get a chance, see if your speed is reading properly -AKATV
Kevin nunley 0 Posted April 4 Will do. Thank you for any help you can provide
Kevin nunley 0 Posted April 4 Yes the speedo works, but as soon as I key off and back on display is blank. I have it on a battery charger to make sure I am getting good voltage at least to the battery IMG_1933.mov
AKATV 824 Posted April 5 If you want to remove the top cover, I can tell you a couple voltages to check If the voltage are correct, you might have a problem with your circuit card I sent my direct contact information to your message box as well -AKATV
