honda4ever 0 Posted September 18 (edited) Hello everyone I'm new to the site. So I'm still trying to figure out how to do this. I have a 2004 500 Rubicon I'm trying to find a speedometer display for it. Or I was wondering if there were other year models that I could use instead. Any help would be so appreciated thank you in advance. To give a little bit more information on the subject, it is one that I bought as a project someone had rigged up a different speedometer display on it and parts of it work. It says it's in ESP no matter what I put the selectors on. And the neutral light will work. But I am having problems with the manual shift buttons not working there is no power going to the electronic shift motor. And I'm trying to figure out if it's because of the way they have the speedometer rigged up to it. It plugs up the same as the one that came with the machine I'm just wondering if something internal is causing my problem Edited September 18 by honda4ever
jeepwm69 7,744 Posted September 18 Can you post a pic of the meter on the machine now?
jeepwm69 7,744 Posted September 18 That's kinda what I expected to see.. That's an 05-14 Rubicon meter. 01-04 meters will work. 05-14 they made a bunch of major changes, although the engines remained mostly the same. That 05-14 meter is for selectable 4wd, as one major difference. I'd keep an eye on ebay, and powesportsnation.com. PSN parts out ATV's all the time and they stand behind what they sell. None listed that I could find on ebay now, but the part you need is 37200-HN2-003 https://www.partzilla.com/product/honda/37200-HN2-003?ref=38d73280da44c9f1573d6caf22a53896d8c527dc They also had a GPS model for 2004 only, and that part was 37200-HN2-A11. https://www.partzilla.com/product/honda/37200-HN2-A11?ref=0e79824ab69ad678f372fa23301c685110e727c7 Does your Rubicon have a sticker anywhere on it with the year and model? The regular model was a TRX500FA. The GPS model was a TRX500FGA

honda4ever 0 Posted September 18 It actually runs good with the side shifter and low or high or reverse it's just that the manual switches on the handlebar do not work I'm getting no power to the electric shift motor I have changed the angle sensor reset the computer with the up down reset method. I thought maybe that could be because they have the wrong display hooked up to it I looked for a service manual to own out the system but I cannot find one

The newer 05-14 had selectable 4wd. That's one big difference in the two, and the meters are definitely different. You say that it runs good, but no ESP mode. This transmission is a hydrostat, so that electric motor on the front of the engine is constantly moving, adjusting the swash plate on the hydrostat, so if it's not getting power, you're likely stuck with only being able to move at very low speeds. Does that sound right? The GPS units have an extra little plug hanging off of the back, and that little plug goes to a GPS unit. 3 plugs on this unit https://www.partzilla.com/catalog/honda/atv/2004/trx500fga-a-rubicon-gpscape/meter-trx500fga-04 Regular units do not have the 3rd plug. https://www.partzilla.com/catalog/honda/atv/2004/trx500fa-a-fourtrax-foreman-rubicon/meter-trx500fa-01-04 So I think you could use the non-GPS unit just fine. I think if you get a GPS unit you'll also need to get the little GPS that plugs into it. Make sense? But yes, getting the proper meter is the first thing you need to do to get this machine running properly Wiring schematics can be found in the back of the factory service manual. You can download them free in PDF format from the toolbar at the top of the forum labled "service manuals"
