Been away for a while but I ended up taking a hammer to the side of the winch and tapping it while using the control to winch in/out. It eventually dislodged and has worked without issues since. Would this be because the brushes or commutator are starting to be worn?

I run mine on a toggle switch. Hauling wood up hill on first gear doesn't cool it quickly. During hot and humid summer temps; I'd get back home and the bike would be smoking (yet the light never turned on). Installed the fan with a toggle switch and it solved my problem. I let it run the whole time I'm hauling wood or when I feel it become hot. No issues yet.

Will you end up selling or keeping it? If you sell, how much will you sell it for? Thing is better than new lol

Ha! Love this thread. I got a few; my taste in music ranges far and wide. I mostly listen to 70s rock though. Friday nights with the buds usually end up pretty knarly but here's a few I'm thinking of at random to throw in the mix:
Kickstart my Friday nights:

Thanks guys, will be taking it apart over the holidays. I gotta say... The way the battery is placed on a Yamaha makes me miss working on my Honda lol

So what is the difference between the TRX300FM and TRX300FW?

Hey guys, unlike my other thread in this section; this is actually not a joke 🙂
My buddy bought a Yamaha BigBear 350 1996 in mint condition. It came with a shovel attachment for plowing snow.
I tested it yesterday evening after a snow storm and it worked amazing. As I was plowing I noticed the winch reel starting to slow down. It wouldn't lift or lower the shovel as quickly and seemed to be taxing the battery (light would dim quite a bit when engaging the winch buttons). Eventually, the winch just wouldn't move; even when I lifted the top of the shovel to give the cable more slack.
The battery tests out at 12.35V when disconnected from the battery tender. The bike starts great using the starter. I plugged in the battery tender and the voltage goes to 12.46.
Any ideas where I should start? I was going to take it apart yesterday but it was -20 celcius. Decided to make a fire inside instead 😅

For vacations my girlfriend loves to go down to resorts in Mexico or wherever there are beaches. I personally just love to stay at home and go in the woods; stuff that relaxes me. Few brews here and there and I'm a happy camper. As for traveling, I'm not the stay-on-the-beach type; infact I cook up in the sun and generally rather be under shade. I'd much rather go to Iceland for traveling. I really love nature so everything that could have mountains or hiking; that's my type of travel experience.

1 minute ago, retro said:The EPA is the reason why saw manufacturers specify 50:1 ratio premix. For many years the same saw models sold in the US and Canada were specified to run 32:1 in Europe and most other overseas countries/regions. Some countries still do not require 50:1 and manufacturers still say 32:1 for models sold in those countries. So 50:1 is a govcorp scam. A 15,000 RPM 2 stroke requires high quality ashless 32:1 oil for maximum life.
When Shindaiwa was still around, near the end EPA required their carbs to be modified. Couldn'T adjust the highspeed after that which basically made them run like crap after a while.
The one I have now is a Shindaiwa 488; runs awesome!

Can't wait to get back to cutting. Renos took me away from the woods for a while. I'll let the wife pay the electricity bills this winter as we only have 9 cords of wood. That way she will send me off to the woods so she doesn't have to spend so much next year 😉
I should go down this weekend and knock a few down while making a trail. Get 2 birds stoned at once (Trailer Park Boys reference). Hardest part for me is bringing the wood back home; no truck yet... Man I miss being down in the woods.

Working great for me as well. Only thing I noticed was when I simulated a new member by searching for honda atv forums on google; I didn't get this forum as a result. I really had to type atvhonda.com in the search bar to pull up a result.

Haha I just wanted to poke some fun when I saw the "Non Honda ATV". Although I do cringe when some of my buddies consider buying a Polaris. Especially here in the Eastern Townships where CanAms are pretty cheap due to so many of Bombardier's employees working in Valcourt (approx 25mins away from my place).

Around spring time I'll be looking to get myself a 424. I should actually get myself a set of red plastics; mine are trashed.

I work a few minutes away from the city of Magog; great place in the summer time on the lake! Awesome restaurants there too. My sister lives in Montreal; I stay away from there. Too many people haha I rather hear the russling of the leaves and breath the fresh air of my chainsaw/4 wheeler exhaust 😂

We had some pretty cold weather beginning of November. Went down to -15 for a few days straight with a wind chill of -23; severe winds and a fair amount of snow also. Took out the 1975 Olympique 340cc ski doo; missed that thing!
Now everything is back to normal for the Eastern Townships, light snow that pretty much melts as it falls lol Fine by me; less wood to burn. Only have about 10 cords this year.
