  1. The problem was the needle valve was shot and allowing the bowl to overflow so I just replaced that and that did it. Otherwise before I did that it was running just fine. After I reinstalled the carb it showed the symptoms I described so I put the rest of the kit in hoping it would do the trick. But no. The kit was an OEM and I did clean the fuel tank when I had it off.
  2. I'm having problems getting my machine to run right after installing a carb rebuild kit. It will run at higher RPM's but will not idle and seems to be back firing a little.
  3. I already took mine apart and it is different than the pictured one as it only has 2 brushes. I ordered parts and am going to try that, but I didn't think the brushes looked that bad. Butt being as it is apart i,m going to replace them.
  4. That's good info. But I did just hook a regular car battery to the starter, and that did make it turn the engine over, but not as fast or easy as I would have anticipated. The machine is in a warm 60 degree shop as opposed the -16 that it is outside so I thought that big battery would spin it pretty fast.
  5. Thanks for all the great advice, I will start going through and checking off all the easier stuff before I yank the starter. I have confidence in my new battery it is the right size and is fully charged putting out a little over 13 volts. I have cleaned all connections. So the starter is my main focus I guess.
  6. Might as well replace the whole starter then you think? And what is your opinion of the aftermarket starters out there?
  7. My issue is I have a 99 TRX300 that will not electric start, replaced the starter solenoid Has a new fully charged battery all the terminals including the ground to the frame and the connection at the starter have been cleaned and re-connected. The solenoid will buzz when the starter button is pressed but starter does not engage. shorting the posts on the solenoid will make the starter engage but does not make it turn over continuously, it will only roll it over once and then you have to remove the screwdriver and short it again and it will roll over again. I'm thinking starter motor but want to ask some one who may be better versed on this what their opinion is. Thanks in advance for any reply.
