Chevymec 510 Posted May 17, 2020 So I had this same problem from time to time and posted about it on the old site. No rhyme or reason when it will do it. When I put my 500 in gear it stalls out unless you throttle it right then. It idles at the correct rpm. When I start it in gear it will try and lunge forward like the clutch is engaged. I know it will probably have to be opened up either way but I kinda like to know what I'm up against before I tear into something I'm not too familiar with. Yalls thoughts?? retro 4,074 Posted May 18, 2020 It sounds like the change clutch is dragging and may need to be adjusted, which is pretty easy to do. The adjustment stud has gotta be 1/4 turn out as shown in the service manual.
