429 CJ via Bill Cook
The 429 Cobra Jet was a V8 engine offered by Ford Motor Company in the early 1970s that was a performance version of its regular 429 engine.
This engine was primarily known for its use in the Ford Torino and was a part of the Ford 385 engine family.
The 385 name came from the 3.85 inch crankshaft stroke that was available in this engine family. There was also the Super Cobra Jet which offered and additional bump in performance. The Super Cobra Jet was only available with a final drive of 3.90 or 4.30, while the regular Cobra Jet was available coupled with a 3.25:1 final drive ratio.
Seems to me he did say it was the 4.30 rear axle ratio.

The 185s with front shocks was only in 83, so if its that one i imagine they are identical. If its an 81-82 then its whether the frame steering stem would match i suppose 😮

OK random Q.... my bud who is restoring the 200s, is looking for an OEM recoil cord(rope) & handle/plug. The rope came in a Honda bag like any part & is already the correct length. Any ideas?

There are manuals on here for that machine(Rancher). Make sure you get the correct one for that carb, if you remove the TPS on it you may run into problems if you dont let the ECU 'relearn' it once its back on.

Youve changed those filters a few times before i assume? Sounds like if its not the filter, maybe the fuel pressure isnt there. Good ole diesels needing high pressure. 🤔
-
How dirty was the machine? Like, under the 'hood' so to say? Sounds like a connector issue, dirty more than likely.

Ok this was Friday morning at 7:05am.

Those times (early to mid 80s) are like the muscle car times of the late 60s/early 70s. They will never return. Great era, & 'father' if you will, of the modern ATV era.

Its like everything now...dirtbikes are pretty much all 4 st & gutless, you cant get a good s/t bike w/o it being neutered. Has to be some 5 figure priced big bike now. Even the 450's that are street legal cost too much for the size of the bike (IMO). Its like the Govt is dumbing down the masses. Remember the little RM50/60's? Bikes like that in the late 70s on? You LEARNED to ride, or you got hurt, now its all !-a-fied. Maybe cause i got a 3 wheeler young, i learned not to kill myself on one. But the media back then (on YT) shows guys going with no helmets & drinking beer, like they had an agenda. Gotta watch who's watching you 😑
On another note...good chance i am getting that 225DR today as the kid called me back & will take my offer 😏

So, let's brainstorm. Do we want to do a simple "ATV of the month" contest for this, or what?
It expires August 4th, so have a little time, but not a lot for someone to "win" and spend it.
Any alternate ideas on how we can award it, or do we just 100% copy their contest rules and give away their award?
Wow...you guys called it. Paying ppl to be on their site 😮
