  1. Glad to have you as a member. There are several experienced 86-93 TRX350 guys here. So much knowledge here.

have you changed brake fluid in last five years? If not I’d recommend it; because the master cylinders are very hard to find.

I rebuilt the wheel cylinders on my last project because they wouldn’t hold seal. I had to replace the seals and one piston because it was pitted.
I learned how to fix it here!!

    Are you looking for parts?

  2. Favorite machine is 86 TRX350A. Simpler than the others although I don’t understand the breather box thing lol!

yeah starter gear set in the early 86 lacks the roller bearing in the cover—late 86 on. Inspect the starter and reduction gears for wear or you risk breaking some teeth and ruining a flywheel/stator set. Replace the starter if the gear is showing a lot of wear and use the kick starter to reduce wear on the starter.

86 Front drive shafts are splined differently than later models; front brake components differ too ( hubs, drums, shoes, wheel cylinders).

    Hey @bwxmas

download the service manual in the service manual folder (TRX350 Foreman).

also check part numbers by using the OEM parts finder at Rocky Mountain atv and Partzilla. Shows different part numbers per VIN, year and model.

  3. Yeah our Honda shop lists labor by the half hour.

I bought a xerox for our dep’t for $14K —free supplies forever, 4 year warranty. Ran 7 years with no problems. It started hiccuping. the xerox repair was $650 an hour, in 15-minute increments, with a minimum charge. I loved that xerox but it is no longer compatible with our domain so i parked it and got an HP.

btw i like how you’re wrenching on your rigs. Maybe i should run mine today; sposda be 50s

Snow, snow and more snow. We got dumped on again last night and I haven't heard any total amounts yet (still snowing) but my 18 inch muck boots are not tall enough.Of course the "new to me" plow pickup only gives problems when it's needed. We needed moisture but I'm running out of places to pile this stuff. We usually get a few breaks between snows but not this year.

I see the eastbound 4 lane is closed. Have you been To town yet? How do those roads look?

  5. made some venison polish sausage Party Polish!! LEM Backwoods seasoning and 20% pork fat. Leetle dry. Next time Ima use 25-30% beef fat.
I’ve had COVID for at least a couple weeks now. Ruined Christmas, ruining New Years.

but got my appetite, taste, smell. Just sniffing and sneezing.

Guess i have to wait till I’m better to broil another.

  6. important to keep the carb overflow hose routed below the elevation of the carb bowl. If the carb float was to stick open, fuel needs to go somewhere. If the overflow hose isn’t stopped up, fuel will drain straight down the hose and leak out on your shed floor. If it cant leak out the hose, it may rise in the carb and leak into the engine.

you can test drain function by 1) put a pan under your quad, 2) close the petcock and 3) unscrew the bowl drain screw. You’ll see a bowl’s worth of fuel drain from the hose. Screw in the drain and Turn the petcock back on to test you have the drain securely closed.

To protect the drain hose function, some older machines came with a one-way valve on the end of the carb overflow hose. I got one off an 87. I have not been able to source one, but I’m sure subs are available. My guess is they weren’t very reliable.

  7. If you want to descale it first in a concrete mixer?

, use a pound of BBs and 2 gallons of cleaning vinegar. Use aluminum tape on the filler and petcock holes. Wrap and tape up the tank in bubble wrap. Put in cardboard box and put box in a little concrete mixer. Wedge additional cardboard pieces in the tub so box doesn’t bang around. Let it spin for three hours, then check the condition.

if the interior looks brushed clean, then flush and rinse with a high pH wash—spa high pH chemical mixed strong with water. This prevents flash rusting.

  8. I helped a friend butcher his deer yesterday.
I took my smokepole for a walk today, laid back in the sun after it got above freezing and then, after i was sure the deer were all bedded, pulled up a couple hundred feet of old barbed wire. Drove home, had a beer and grilled this fine piece of backstrap. Cheers to y’all

  9. Torque values are listed on page 1-5 of the service manual. While I didn’t see the covers specifically listed—looked at the oil filter cover (6mm diameter flange bolt?). 6-9 foot pounds (72-108 inch pounds?). I have an inch pound torque wrench but not a typical tool.

i think it’s more important to tighten those bolts to the same torque rather than a specific torque. So—snug but not more than snug or you risk breaking them.

Edit also check page 1-7 for standard torque values. 5 ft lbs = 60 inch pounds should be sufficiently consistent unless you get a leak

  10. Yes. Use the oem parts finder at Rocky Mountain atv and Partzilla. Check out several part differences.

For instance you will see starter gear applications for two TRX350A—the oval and teardrop shaped starter gear covers differentiate between early TRX350A and later. This was necessary to accommodate a longer starter shaft and bearing in the gear cover.

Used my 300 4x4 to help the Old John Deere 140 pull my Sugar Shack up closer to the winter setup location.

This is the first year Ill be cooking inside a little shed and may build a bigger shed next year but for this year I'll be boiling inside vs outside.  Still have to finish off the entry side of the shack and get a door put in.

  12. Hey we’re here in deer camp too. Let me post a pic.
best to buy an OEM filter yeah they’re about $40 but worth it. They have to fit the fuel lines configuration. Be careful with those lines they’re impossible to find and if they crack at the ends, you’ll risk them being too short.

The fuel tank has a petcock with two suction lines—filter baskets on the ends

  13. congratulations and welcome to the forums

Download the service manual from the folder labeled service manuals. See my pic.

do all the service items. Only use wet clutch engine oil not automotive oil. These quads don’t have a separate transmission case.

you can still buy printed genuine Honda service manuals on eBay for your quad. They run $10 to $200, so keep your eye out!!

only buy oem parts. Use the oem parts finder at Rocky Mountain atv and Partzilla

  14. Enjoy FF!!! Here’s one of my smokers.

I don’t put foil on the grills  cause i want the browning and smoke. I put foil on the wood box; it’s electric fired but uses wood chunks for smoke.
