Have had this charger for a long time, and all of the sudden it doesn't work.  Comes on, hums, but doesn't charge.

I also have my grandfather's old Schauer charger, and to test each of them, took my voltmeter, attached clamps, and turned  on.

Schauer, which works, the voltmeter showed about 12.75 volts.

Did the same on my Schumacher, and nothing.  If I turn the switch from 2 amp to 10 amp the voltmeter shows a bump to 4-5V for a second or two, that's it.

Any idea on troubleshooting this thing?  Might not be worth fooling with, but I always try to fix something before going and buying a replacement, especially with all the garbage being sold now vs 20 years ago.

I have one like the Schumacher..... What mine does is kinda like yours... it drops when the switch is toggled for a few seconds.. then it's starts charging again... (sometimes) does it both ranges..(and at times) .. it won't hum or show any signs of life (no gauge needle movement) until it's clipped to the battery poles... it's seems to work better depending on the outside temp... I'm thinking maybe a week solder joint, or sketchy switch But no odd smells or nothing... I don't use it un attended.. when it's acting right it charges fine...it's one of many reasons I'm looking for one like @Wheeler has ( NOCO 3500 ) I think it's a battery charger / tender / booster ?  3 in 1 it sure beats the battery tender jr by deltran... tuned in.

Trying to understand this ^^^^^^ comment >>> Good thought about rodent damaged wires  —-  So you don't think a 2000 model wouldn't have " rodent "  chewed  wires , what's the reasoning ?

Maybe your onto something , you never know . I had heard a  couple of theories why rats , mice and squirrels like to eat wires. Read one that said  the wire coating that comes from overseas is made of some kind of plant base stuff  like soy. >>>>> Maybe they quit using soy base coated wires in 2000 ?   I would say a rat would chew a 2023 just as quick as a 2000 or a 1970

Yeah.... like jeep said... I'm not too good with years....ha! I still think cars made in 00 are considered new.....(no telling how many times I've heard certain people >> shade for example << tell me get with the times..... haha! ) .although... in my opinion... they might be old but much better then what's coming out now...I bet those electric cars will targeted by rodents.... and I'd hate dealing with that kind of mess....just had another member say in chat his gas powered vehicle has become a target...for those bucktooth bandits...

If that's an Xj jeep...rear (looks kinda like it from the sway bar / torsion arm)  .. yup.... mine had a knock at certain low speeds, and a hum when the t-joint settled to one side at higher speeds... drilled out the yoke holes.. tossed those strap / cap screws and went with Forman/help hardened u-bolts

My Mom use to cook  liver and onion  a lot when I was a kid , I  found a good recipe for it today

Had my share too.... liver n onions..... ive never really looked into what variations of liver dishes there are...it's not a fave food by far.... but always been advised don't eat mature livers because of the medicine, growth hormones, etc that aren't safe for human consumption... calf liver only... for me...but I'd like a better dish with lots of stuff to kinda drown out that rich liver meat taste....I'll say this my uncle loved pig brains n eggs.... I'd try it, but someone would have to pay me ALOT to do so... I wouldn't even venture that on a dare...that one ranks right there with Yoo-hoo chocolate milk n sardines in hot sauce..... I don't mind tuna at all 😬 just a note... you need to loose weight ? Get those jokers in chat started on foods.......it will change your thinking quick......

  11. If everything is tight it could be the pitman slack adjustment... I'm not too sure about the newer models but the older square bodies were bad about getting slack ... I'll dig more... I never like fords because of they. Role and hunt too much in the steering, least the light duties did ranger up to the 350 (one ton) ...

General Motors is recalling roughly 1.2 million model-year 2015 trucks and SUVs globally for a problem with the electric power steering system. GM previously recalled nearly 700,000 model-year 2014 pickups for the same issue.

The Problem: The electric power steering system in certain 2015 ChevroletSilverado, Tahoe, Suburban, GMC Sierra and Yukon, and Cadillac Escalademodels can fail and then return suddenly. If this happens during a low-speed turn, the abrupt steering assistance could cause you to crash. The Associated Press reports that GM is aware of 30 crashes and two injuries related to the issue.

The Fix: Owners of affected vehicles will be notified and instructed to visit a dealership. There, technicians will update the electric power steering software at no cost to the owner. For more info, owners can contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration at 1-888-327-4236 or the appropriate GM brand customer service hotline referencing recall number 18289. Chevrolet can be reached at 1-800-222-1020, GMC at 1-800-462-8782, and Cadillac at 1-800-458-8006.

Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: The recall covers 1,015,918 units in the U.S., including certain 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500s, Tahoes, and Suburbans; 2015 GMC Sierra 1500s and Yukons; and 2015 Cadillac Escalades. Vehicles in Canada, Mexico, and other countries are also being recalled.

No not the flip downs (windows) .... the space above ....yer chair.. but doesn't matter, a space that small won't make much deference.
