Oil on clearance at Tractor Supply (not ATV oil)

Recommended Posts

Pennzoil Platinum  High Mileage in 5W20 and 5W30, Castrol Edge in 5W20 and 5W30, and Mobil Delvac 1 in 5W40 are all on clearance at most Tractor Supplies.

Prices vary, but I had @basfnb clean out his local store.

You can put in your location, click on the links at it will tell you the in store price (they were NOT marked on clearance at Basfnb's store, but rang up at clearance prices)

You can also click on nearby stores/ change your location to see what other nearby stores might have.

5qt jugs of Edge were $6.59 or $6.29.  Qts are $1.79

5qt jugs of Pennzoil were $18.xx, but there's a $20 rebate on 2 jugs, so after rebate $8ish per 5 qt jug.

$6.79 at one nearby store, so free oil with $3 back after rebate

The Delvac is $5.79/gal

Thanks, actually i have some tech Data sheets sent to from several oil companies .... Little known fact deal delvac  is a better diesel oil then rotella, the reason rotella took off so much faster is it could be located easier then delvac ie truck stops auta parts dealers ect ect ect actually had a hand writen letter from the pressident of roadway trucking .... Who had several comments about how much better n longer his trucks service lasted using delvac rather then rotella...the only one more recommended was mobile one synthetic .... At $7 a quart and that price was over 10-15 years back...... Personaly the reason so many use rotella is because main reason (easy to locate at a good price) it is good oil as well.... My buddy Gus drove all his life and was a diehard delvac fan... Yet had that same complaint... Hard to find.... Ie that's the same reason some over the road semi trucks (pete kenworth)  ect ect are more popilure then others.... Repair parts were easier to come by.

I would never put anything but Shell Rotella in " anything " I own , unless I couldn't get it , I got about 30 gallons stockpiled ---- I got a sister in law that is a manager of a Tractor Supply

I don't know if Pennzoil is still a paraffin based oil , but back in the day it was  , a terrible oil , clogged up motors --- had a 79 Ford truck that was leaking from the valve covers , when I pulled them off , the engine was not allowing oil back down to the oil pan , it gelled up to a wax , Pennzoil use to be all I ever used , cause my Dad liked it  ----

Well Rotella is JASO MA so I buy that to use in ATVs and of course it is nice to be able to use another stuff as well.

But I have old pick ups, jeeps, and a couple of old John Deere’s so I can use the diesel oil in those.  At $5/gal you better believe I’ll buy it up and figure out how to use it later.

as far as the Pennzoil is concerned, I got four jugs of that. I can rotate that through my 94 accord with 330 K on it.  I tend to use whatever I have on hand for that one just because it’s such an old car with high mileage so I doubt I will have any sludge build up changing at 5k intervals and using other brands mixed in.

I think I’m running Delo in my accord right now. Got a bunch of it for seven dollars a gallon on a Walmart clearance a couple of years ago

You know what’s worth more than a new motor ?  The time and work to change it.  I don’t care what I got to pay for Rotela I am using oil I know is proven to me   I was the service manager of a rental house that had 4 locations and more Bobcats than any single store between Houston and Atlanta.  People that rent for the most part don’t care about the equipment and are hard on it.  Also had all kinds of other equipment larger and small . We used Rotella in everything. And I can count the engines we lost with one finger there and my personal lost none.  Except for the Charlie Long / Dicks Cycle fiasco where I burned up the red 300 from powder coat failure.  You know I don’t care at all about the certification code.  Never did .  never will.

Interestingly enough, Pennzoil is now a Shell oil.  Found that out today when doing my rebate form.

I used Castrol GTX for years and years.  Got 360k out of my old Accord, sold it still running like a top with no oil usage.

I use Mobil 1 in the wife’s car.  It’s the only newish vehicle we own.

The rest get whatever is in my stash in the proper weight.

I think interval and good filters are more important than the brand of oil, especially when you have a bunch of old beaters like I do.

I do keep a healthy stash of Rotella.  I can use it in everything except the newer stuff that calls for 20 weight oil, so it’s the most versatile for sure.
