ChrisX 8 Posted February 25 (edited) Hi I have 2003 TRX500FA. Camshaft decompressor in my TRX moves freely but it seems to be clunky and noisy. see YT video: clunky decompressor motor noise Can you tell me please if this is normal or I should replace the camshaft ? I appreciate your help Chris Edited February 25 by ChrisX
jeepwm69 7,778 Posted February 26 It is normal for the decompressor to flop like that. It is not normal for an engine to sound like that. @toodeep, any ideas? Sounds like valves or piston slap to me.
LedFTed 1,145 Posted February 26 i kinda liked the "noisy engine & how to diagnose" video. i have used a tire iron, and a rubber hose, as a stethoscope before. trying that might isolate the noise. that is not a normal noise at all. definitely imo valve or piston related. no point in guessing. compression test is in order. maybe leak down. after using the stethoscope. seems louder on the exhaust side. burnt valve? Sounds like valves or piston slap to me. Just want to confirm. Engine has been rebuild ( +1 bore, new piston, new crank, new valves), Used the same camshaft. All sounds now very nice and quiet.
