It was the ECU.  Got a used one from PSN today and it fired right up.

Gotta get everything put back together and get it out of the yard.

@jeepwm69 -- I like your way you doing things -- stick with it -- try and try -- ending up solving the problem.

well it wasn’t going to fix itself!  Lol.

Thanks for all the time you and Retro spent advising.  We all hate to throw an ECU at a problem since you can’t test them, they’re $$$, and you can’t return them.

I’m just glad it’s fixed.

Took it for a spin and got 1/2 down the street and it started running like crap.
i thought “Now what?” but it would smooth out with starter fluid, so I drained the tank and put some fresh gas in, and after feathering it for a few minutes it smoothed up and ran great.

Took the mini-me out on the farm, dug out a beaver dam to make her a “waterfall” and it did fine on that trip, so back to the owner tomorrow

Thanks again for the input guys!

Awesome, happy for you..yea, meltav helped me take the ECM plunge with the green coil wire to ground test, amazing to think NON OEM can wreck such havoc, here's to many trails and memories 😊

yeah..inspect for mice damage, and spray some wd-40 into the kill switch. if you have a neutral light, then i would do a good check at reg/rec, as well as the stator harness area for mice damage.

Just my opinion but I wouldn't use wd40 as it will attract dust. I think the best thing you can use is rubbing alcohol with a syringe or bottle with a snout. Alcohol doesn't attract dust and is very compatible with electronics, cleans well and leaves no residue.

Sorry to jump in here with very experienced people and sound like I'm correcting them but just trying to help.

I'm here searching and reading Jeep's posts as he has had some very good advice in many forums I've read.

That was it.  Several wires had bite marks.  Two were chomped in two.  Spliced/soldered/heat shrinked and it fired right up.

Charged her a 12 pack of beer lol.

Took me longer to get the rear basket off to get to the wiring than it did to find and fix the problem.

That's the way I join my wires is with solder and heat shrink, lasts forever unlike crimping butt splices that get wet a few times and intermittent. What do they say, if you don't have time to do it right the first time then you must have time to do it again.

next you will say duct tape and bailing wire used in the south never works huh ?..rofl. no..really..i get it..it prob does ?..but !..seeing how the switch is covered ?, the chances of dust affecting it are slim to none ?. only thing i see that hurts these switches ?..is when owners drown them in water ?..now that is a no no !..lol.

I'm a student of guys like Shadetree, Toodeep, Retro etc.   The real old school guys did the teaching.  I try to be a good listener.

I didn't own an ATV until about 2010, and that one was new.  Rich450es and Toodeep walked me through my first engine rebuild on the old hondaforeman forum.

Easy there McGuyver, I aint dissin your duct tape. I figured you was saying use the wd40 to clean the switch and that would involve the inside, I shoulda kept reading.

My bad.
