jteam 2 Posted May 13, 2020 Hello from NC ladies and gents. Been lurking here off and on and don't think I have ever posted up. I have a 2009 Honda Rubicon. I was having a shifting problem with the Hondamatic. Determined it to be a loose connection on the gray 21 pin connector at the control unit (ECM/PCM). I located a source for the connector and replaced it. This improved the connectors feel greatly, HOWEVER, even though I thought I was careful transferring the wires/pins from the old connector to the new connector, I must have crossed up a couple wires because now the gear position display (switch is new) no longer works. It worked fine before the connector change. No matter where I have looked, I cannot find a "pin out" for the ECM connectors. The factory service manual does not show it and I have a connection at a dealer and their service techs don't have the pin out either! I was a Chrysler/Plymouth/ Dodge tech in another life and cant imagine th factory not providing pin out diagrams for diagnostics! I am at a loss unless I either replace the harness, OR find someone that can take multiple photos of the wires going into the gray connector so I can compare mine. Any help or advice would be appreciated. I will also post up the location I found the connectors if that is allowed, since it seems that they fail with some age. connector source: Motorcycle Connectors We have Vintage and modern Sport-bike Motorcycle Wiring Harness electrical Connectors, These connectors are purchase directly from the manufacturer, And in many cases the OEM Supplier, The terminals and connectors are superior quality. Most are Manufactured in the, Japan, USA or Europe. Bullet... www.cycleterminal.com
jeepwm69 6,581 Posted May 13, 2020 Welcome aboard. If nobody here chimes in I'll get the front fender off the 2012 I have (maybe 2013? Can't remember) and take some pics for you.
jeepwm69 6,581 Posted May 13, 2020 @retro and @Melatv are the two wiring gurus. Throw @AKATV in there too. They're all pretty handy when it comes to all the electro stuff that we all don't like working on.
retro 3,760 Posted May 13, 2020 The factory don't publish pinouts, just wiring diagrams in the back of the service manual.

jeepwm69 6,581 Posted May 14, 2020 Hope it helps you out. This Rubicon is a project so front fender had to come off anyway. Keep us updated!

jteam 2 Posted May 14, 2020 Not sure your issues but mine had shifting issues with the trans and it ended up being poor /loose connections in that connector. Shifts good after I replaced but I did it at dusk and my eyes aren’t what the once were. Trying to beat the dark I did pull more than one wire at a time on a few occasions. Hind sight............ cant wait to compare your pics with it. Darn thing has way over 5k miles and runs great still
jeepwm69 6,581 Posted May 14, 2020 The project bike I bought runs but doesn't move, according to the previous owner. I haven't done anything with it at all except roll it off my trailer and to the back of the yard. If I had to guess either the oil pump chain is off or the Hondamatic is trashed. Front fender had a snorkel hole so might have been sunk and ruined the Hondatmatic. I got it cheap. Will part it out if it's going to be too expensive to fix. Going to tear it down sometime in the near future. Have two 500 Footshifts I'm rebuilding to sell first.
