    no picture

     as for getting scents

many get them from pen raised animals and grate floors with drains to collect things, and some  work with trappers that well, save it at time of processing it!

rarely is it really JUST urine either, IMO
from MY experience, bears here as well as many other critters are scare of bobcats and cats ingeneral, there just too sneaky and get too close without them knowing it

when a cat shows up here, or many of the farms I used to manage, deer and other things would take off for there lives out of food plots and such, even 20-500 yards away if they smelled em!

always found it funny to see big animals running away from small cats LOL

We have an abundance of bears in one area I hunt. Last week I just got mine back from taxidermist. I shot her late Sept 2018. It was my first bear, & due to the colour phase decided to give her a place on the wall. They are $2500 for a half mount, however the lady I used did it for $1400 to get her name out there. This was her second bear she's done.

congrats to you,. and YES< its gotten crazy how costly, taxidermy has gotten

when I first started hunting, a deer head was about a 100 bucks from a  GOOD shop

I was a die hard hunter so, became friends with a  taxidermist,  and thank God I did, he used to do all things for me for his costs, all I had to do was help him, when he needed help,

I have almost 40 deer heads now, and countless other things, and most, if I told you what I paid, you wouldn;t believe me! L:OL

I also learned a lot bout taxidermy along the ways, and you'd be surprised how few hunters know the difference between a GOOD mount and a SO SO one and a POOR one, as so many just get one done and nothing else to compare it to, to see the difference up close and personal

when my buddy used to travel to go to contest for it, and such, I learned a LOT, and when he finally gave it up, I traveled all over looking for another GOOD taxidermist and honestly couldn;t Find one.

as I would go look at there work, and see, about HALF of the things  would look good then half would look shabby, as if they didn;t care on some things, and others they did extra care

it sure made me realize how lucky I was for so long !

my last 3 heads I had done, are far from good, and would never recommend them, and I was picky picking them, even told them up front how much I knew about things and the difference in good and so so work

thinking maybe they would do better, due to I knew

and well, no return business from me LOL

if you have a good taxidermist,  be nice to them , there hard to replace!

  3. honestly if you bent the moose plow blade and frame like that NOTHING else is going to work for you any better

moose has the strongest blade on the market and the frame, WOW<  the tings I have done to mine and have NOT been able to even  cause anything like hat you have, and I have honestly abused mine to no end, I have pushed  all sorts of things Not just snow, from concrete slabs, to torn up pavement, hundreds of tons of it too, not just a little here or there

IMO the issue is, SPEED< you making some serious impacts when you add speed to things that are hard or solid, and  minus a dozer blade, or a one heck of a HD< tractor grader like blade, your going to bend things  still

if you add speed, even that stuff will bend

them BIG ice chunks, will bend or break  even hardened steel, ever watch Gold Rush and watch what perma frost does to rippers on dozers and excavators?
     it will snap em off!

honestly that moose plow set up you had will be the strongest ATV /UTV/SXS set up there is, and there plow again is the thickest steel out there

your going to have to look into more tractor  grader blades or dozer blades if you want thicker/stronger

maybe one off a skid steer?

example of what I used my plow for, thats about 45 ton oif broken up pavement pushed down a hill used as back fill!

didn;t even really scratch paint on blade!

Find him a big teddy bear

HAHA< that's funny, over the decades I TRIED giving cubs things like that to play with and oddly, they never would, have a teddy bear outside right now on my one riding mower in a open building where they walk by all the time, and NOTHING has ever tried to take it, BUT it does seem to keep some critters out of the building, just NOT bears

they seem to find things they like with NO real reason, I drained fuel tank on ATV a few weeks back and wiped up spilled fuel with a  old towel, left it on outside work bench, and  had 5 different bears all playing with it  for over an hour the one night, 4 cubs(2 from each female) and one adult female (NO cubs), all playing tug a war, rolling about with it and climbing tree';s with it, and dropping  it, then racing down to get it before another bear could run off with it

was crazy watching em  play with it, and it STUNK like gasoline something terrible

I was a little worried they might eat it at one point!

some nights here are just  a lot of fun to sit on my deck and watch things !

Hi: He is not liking the scent on the blanket -- keep putting it back in until he leaves it alone.  I like Bears they are fun to watch

he had no issue with it for a while there, it was out for weeks before I added it to the den, so the smell should be something he is used to,

I think, he was just being a  kid, and playing with it,  long days in winter alone like he is now, has to pass time some how LOL

there like little kids and love to play at this age, even in the cold and ice, they don;'t care!

I  did throw it back in again, will see if he takes it out again or not, if so, I'll repeat a few times  and if keeps coming out will leave it out, should be plenty warm enough in den  I made with out it

its got 6+ inches of  insulation and then wrapped in about 30 bales of hay

should be warm enough I could make winter in it LOL

  6. and I will add these pic's as well,a s I DON"T Just get bears here, I get all sorts of wildlife, and about 1500+ pictures every week off the cam's on my property near my house there!

I am also surrounded by about 10,000+ acres of hunting club lands and sportsman club lands, with a few hundred members each!

, so, critters here are hunted rather hard to be honest

and many many times I will have many critters here at once,(can see the bear and deer in background, they NEVER bother  each other, even when deer have fawns here)

deer, bears coons, cats, turkeys.skunks grouse,  foxes, if it lives in PA< I get it here  at times!

its like a zoo some days,

I have lots of fruit tree's food plots and  many things that draw wildlife all yr round

a little FYI< the turkey you see below, THINKS Its a DEER, it is always alone with a group of doe, they ALWAYS show up together, which is ODD< turkeys are animals that live in flocks, NOT solo like this one is?

  7. OK< so I will start this up again here, as I did on the other honda sites

those that know me or have followed any of the treads, this will be more of an update,  that a whole story line

those that wish to see more, can feel free to go back to the other two sites and see a long time line on things

     ANY how

so, this past yr was hard yr on my local bears, I ain;t against hunting them either!

and I am glad folks do, I just don';t any more! its healthy for the bears when they are hunted IMO!

But this past yr, I started off  oddly with crazy weather swings up and down, it seemed to play heck with bears and when they were coming out of den giving birth and just plain showing up here

I average about 18 different bears here every spring and by end of yr,  typically have 20 or so different one's i can tell apart, many are long time regulars, coming here for 12-15+ yrs!

so, I got to know them rather well, watched many grow from young to adults, even helped raise a few that ended up orphans.

this past spring, I had local  shoot a bear for no real reasons,  out of season and left to rot

state game dept got involved, we have a idea WHO< but hard to prove!

it was a young male from a liter the yr before, knew it from a cub!

most of my regular females that were due to have cubs and I KNEW made it thru legal hunting season, were all extremely late to show up, they typically would be here by early April if not sooner!

and didn;t show up till almost June this yr and cubs were all very small yet, so late born, late coming out of den!

these two females have been long time regulars, one was on its 5th set of cubs and other on third!

the one was pretty much raised by me, showed up 8+ yrs ago, as an orphaned cub and I helped it make it thru its firsts yr, helped it after it got hit by a car its 3 rd yr,(early Nov this fall) and was a very friendly towards me bear, would sit on my deck with me for hours at a time, yet a 100% free ranging wild bear!

She ended up getting hit and killed this yr by a vehicle a mile from me, leaving behind two orphaned cubs

IN Early June, I also had a orphaned cub show up, the night before I heard some rifle shots and next morning it was here all alone? , again, we THINK a local shot the mother, and was left to rot!

sadly, outlaws are extremely common in this part of the state!

all summer long I and a few neighbors have been helping the orphaned cub along,

after the other mother died, and left her two cubs orphaned, these 3 cubs all meet up and started becoming best of buddies, always hanging out and that was a good thing, increased there odds of making it thru there first winter

I even Built them a den, with hopes of helping them  as  they honestly have NO clue to den on there own, its taught by there mothers, and well these 3, don't have that luxury , as they are now motherless!

during this past hunting season, SO far I lost 5 different bears to local hunters

and then two to local vehicles, and worse , 3 to poachers/outlaws

as about a week ago, another bear was found dead, left to rot! a VERY large male, 600+ lbs, and one of my regulars, he was a twin, has a larger brother, and they been coming here about 15+ yrs now, so, down to one of them now!

opening day of rifle bear season, two of my orphaned cubs went MIA and have not been seen since

MY last female with  her 2 cub also went missing(might be in a  den, or hoping so, as she too is  LONG time regular and  hate to see her go on top of all my others I lost this yr)

I am pretty sure she is in a  den,a s if they shot her,  odds are one of her cubs would have shown up here by now?
so fingers crossed she and them made it!

tomorrow is last LEGAL day of bear hunting here

and  the one orphan is still hanging in there, needs two get thru the busiest day tomorrow and should have a chance at making it thru his first yr, something very FEW orphaned cubs  get to do, all the more so, at the age he was orphaned at, at about 4 months old!

here is a few pictures of the last orphan and the den I made for it, it goes in all the time, but doesn;t stay long, to warm right now, and well, again, it really just doesn;t know to STAY inside for a few months and sleep!

Over the decades I have helped many bears make it, I have a TON of real bear hands on experience, having helped trap, tags, ID< move, study and handle them

there is more to things than just what seen in pictures

but I share pictures here as I feel few get to see bears as I do, and there very interesting animals, not big mean things out to eat you, bear attacks are extremely rare!

they need to be respected NOT fears folks!

also, I HAD a blanket in den and for what ever reason(been in there a 2 weeks or so) he decided to take it out last night, and seems rather happy with himself too for doing it! LOL

and this male is about 70 lbs or so, so NOT a big bear by any means

  8. well, I think its been a long time now since I took a actual vacation vacation

Been out of work now about 10 yrs, and the funds ain';t there like they used to be,

to plan and take dedicated vacations, as I maybe once did(I used to travel across the usa almost every yr ) or take  4-5 hunting trips every yr or more!

for most of my like I took countless trips all over the USA and other countries, even

some for work, some for hunting, snowmobiling and some for racing all sorts of things, so gather I was lucky to see all I did and travel as much as I did for so long!

as I guess some can call them all vacations, ??

     BUT? However???
many of them trips, I ended up so busy doing things, following schedules, and such

you needed a VACATION when you got back

or when younger and took warm weather trips,  warmer weather spots , and  you drank yourself silly, you really needed a day or two when you got home to recover!

was more drained than if I worked a full week at my main job? HAHA!
so, have to question if they were really vacations or not now, looking back !

because I guess the  point of a vacation is to relax and de stress and not be worn out when the vacation is over >>

     SO< I question  what a vacation is??

guess they  can be  really different to everyone!

That said,  I have no real plans of any up coming vacations, OR ?? since I now stay at my hunting property

      almost yr round now  ,

maybe am on vacation all the time and just didn;t know it?? HAHA!

  9. I have titan 589's on mine now about 12 yrs LOL
and they have been pretty bullet proof, to sharp rocks, stumps, coal piles, ash piles, mud , snow pavement gravel roads, you name it they petty much see it,

I don;t deep mud ride, but have many times been in deep mud by accident , in swamps that seemed shallow or solid and then got deep fast

never not had tires not self clean to push me thru, but I have run out of ground clearance a few times and got stuck that way

several thousand miles on tires and still at about 50% tread, so cannot ask for more from a tire for me and the use I do with my atv!

  10. I've been lucky to have spent some time in several parts of SD, and  always enjoyed my time there, and its kinda of funny how the terrain changes so much in some places

always wanted to go back to the black hill's are again for a snowmobile trip,

been yrs since I was there now, and like to see how its changed or stayed the same LOL

  11. I'm having a heck of a storm here now

temps in 20's, and RAINING, I don;t get how it rains when its below freezing

but its raining and everything is turning to ICE as it lands coating everything  with a thick layer of ice!

tried walking outside to my shed and about fell a dozen times,

3 of my local bears are here also, eating bird seeds and they looks like frozen  giant porcupine's as all there hair is standing  up right with ice  like spikes !

they need to find a hole and call it a season and sleep the next few months away

all the more so since its bear season now, there pushing there luck staying awake this long into winter!

  12. I've snowmobiled in minus 30, running 75-100 mph down trails for hours LOL and to be 100% honest I would be breaking a sweat  at times too!

bunch of soft southern bells here , scared of a little  cold temps  LOL

but I will admit once temps hit about 80, I am pretty useless and won't leave AC,

started off today at 23 degree's and raining heavy

everything coated now with about a 1/4 inch or more of ice

rain turned to sleet, making thicker coating, and calling for  6-14 inches of snow later tonight into tomorrow, which should really bring out the morons on local roads and hi ways here,m playing smash and crash

as not much slicker than ice with fresh snow on it , and these idiots today that have ZERO clue how to drive in snow, never mind ice

they buy 4x4 vehicles and think, they can drive like in summer time, 75 on hi ways, no slowing down sooner  at lights or stop signs and , they all seem to forget how gravity  and momentum  works ! LOL

and if weather man is right should warm up again later in week  making sloppy muddy messes!

Autumn is my favorite time of year, but this year it seems to have been skipped over. It was like flipping a switch, warm t shirt weather one day, then freezing cold the next and hasn't been nice since.

I agree with you I like Fall best too,  and same here, we seem to NOT get much of one anymore, we go from HOT to COLD, no gradual changes like yrs back,

and even winters again ain;t the same, have had many days past few yrs in middle of winter in mid 60's or higher, when we should have snow and cold and go from winter cold, to HOT summer, skipping Spring time too!

I hope your bear family made out ok , have you seen them since the shooting started

    little off topic, but

NO, last night I had 6 of em here, mother with her 2 cubs and all 3 orphans from two other females

she left, 5 minutes or so later heard a rifle shot(night time????) so, someone might have had a early bear hunt, cheaters are common in this area ??
so far tonight, not a single bear showed up, so not looking so promising , odds of them allk getting shot in one day are honestly slim, but never know!~

this was the first yr they had opening day on a Saturday and the first time they had so many chances for bears to be shot, went from a 3 day bear season traditionally, then they added a extra 3 days  in deer season

and this yr they went to 32 days of bear hunting, several seasons

and that sold a LOT more bear lic's than normally, due to so many extra chances  at a bear

ON this past Wednesday a neighbor near me found a big dead male bear in his backyard, with a  arrow in it., fresh kill, and OUT of bow season, so, thinking again, someone shot it at night ouyt of season, but ran off and they never got to it before being found

3 rd illegal kill this yr here I know of!

my local bears took a major hit this yr

I typically loose many 2 a yr to hunters and one or two to vehicles or cheaters

this yr I have lost over 9 I know of, and had 15 different one's I could tell between April and AUg, so, lost a lot of them , and still got 5 more days of hunting them left legally?

this warm weather  and up and down temp swings, has caused a lot of bears state wide to get shot this yr, as  when its warm, they don;t need to den for winter and with winter seeming to come later and later every yr IF at all,

many stay active and thus, get shot/hit by vehicles, as deeper into winter there active, harder it is to find food and they have to be more active and travel about more, increasing there odds of being seem,/shot!

the state game dept wanted to lower bear numbers this yr, and why they increased seasons so much, and I am positive it will be a record kill yr on bears state wide

I am close to a hi way here, and in a 25 mile section or two, there were over 30 bears hit by cars this yr in the one section , about 5 times more than average yrs

so between hunting, cheaters and vehicles, MY area I know will be down a LOT on bears next yr

  15. opening day of rifle deer/bear season here today, was  30's all day, sun off and on

and WOW< the amount of shooting this yr was crazy,  calling for heavy rains tonight, snow tomorrow and then a warm up again later in week
    yo yo weather again!

my oyster fisherman friends have a GPS card from the Wildlife and Fishery , that shows everyone's leases , so when they are on the water laying rocks to create reefs , they know where they are at ---- I think the GPS units out there today can get pretty close to being right on , a long time ago they use to have the WASP system , which made your GPS even closer , not sure what they are doing now days  , but there are close , they use them to mark pilings driven into the ground for foundations , so it has to be within inches

from my understanding or what it WAS< , civilian GPS sold to the public, by some law, were not supposed to be more accurate than 3 meters, and as far as I know there still that way

when you get into  more costly units designed for surveyors or I imagine those in state depts that do, things like waterways and such, they can have way more accurate one's

but still think basic handheld one's sold in stores to consumers , are still at the 3 meter rulings side of things!

and there prices tend to reflect this too

I am sure MAC can tell you what some of his one's run and the price tag might scare some folks, as a couple grand isn;t hard to spend on the good one's! there also more sensitive to being damaged due to how accurate some are!

  18. well I all not big on modern things , have used some GPS's

but far from a  pro with them

I do know there are a few app's and web sites that offer, property line lay out on aerial sites, that even show property owners names and at times contacts

     one with be https://huntwise.com/

and another will be this(they offer off road maps as well)

    https://www.onxmaps.com/offroad-app

I know a few guys that use them for hunting and have been rather happy

but also keep in mind most all GPS's are not SUPER accurate, so expect some lines to be farther off one way or the other, when dealing with average civilian used GPS's!

and over lays of lines , will maybe be even more off!

best way to know your on YOUR property is to know where the property pin's are and other markers that can be proven!

  19. Ok I know this is a low odds deal LOL

But if there are any Honda accord owners from PA, I have a deal for you on some winter snow tires, mounted on wheels

My mother gave her car away to a grand child, and they are in collage in a  warm southern state

so have NO use for the snow tires

as such,  I now have them

there Michelin X ice model, with about 3 ,000 miles on them IF that there like new, size is 205/65-R 15, and again mounted and balanced on Honda OEM Steel wheels, from a 2002 Honda accord, whuch I gather will fit several yr and  model  honda vehicles, but I Do NOT Know what, you;d have to look

but if anyone is interested, let me know, I can meet a hour or so from me to help find them a home

so, if anyone is in PA< as I am only doing face to face deal here NOT looking to ship em!

    let me know

If they ran 28's stock with the same gearing and HP I'm sure sales would increase dramatically.

I think you mean to say if they sold with MORE HP and better gears to match them 28's

as I would not really want a stock Honda ATV with STOCK gearing on 28's period, big or smaller framed LOL

it would need some added HP and correct gearing for the larger tires, to give it STOCK like performance of a them old one's on 24's LOL

and then again, better shocks to handle larger tires to boot!(maybe even power steering as 28's are getting larger for longer trail rides I bet)

a 6 th gear might be nice too, for better speeds on wide open smoother trails too! LOL

At my local off-road park I pulled up next to a Polaris in a peanut butter bottomed lake, he was stuck big time. I stopped next to him and asked if he was good, he refused a pull out... In my mind I was praying to God I'd be able to pull away, luckily my old 300 served me well, WOT in 2nd gear and I was out haha.. The guy never spoke to me again and I had seem him numerous times since that haha..

    Honda power 🙂

that's kinda of my point, a lot of these larger atv;'s  there heavier,  and sink like boat anchors

have to think, almost all atv's are all riding on the same sized foot print, only a really small contact patch on the ground with tires, so when you get an atv that weights SO much more than some of the smaller one's

and still have same contact patch on ground,

unless your going with the HIGH speed HIGH wheel speed top keep things self cleaning and HOPING to stay on top with speed

     bigger isn;t always better IMO

and why again, I still like a lot of them older smaller sized ATV;'s

after all ATV's were designed to have very light compaction on the ground, which is what made them go so many places, and sold so many of them

making larger ones heavier one's and still having same ties more or  less, your loosing a lot of that low pressure round contact you used to have that kept  things moving in soft terrain!

that looks like a pretty stable atv  IMO< being wider, and not just taller

however, I honestly(not be a as tall as you LOL)

would enjoy them bringing back the smaller 4x4 atvs, like the 300-400-450's of the early on's on 4x4 atv's

they just seemed so nimble and easier to use in a lot more places, less tippy feeling for sure, and unless in deep ruts or mud, went about any where with there smaller size and lower gearing

Love to see them make one again, with same like smaller size, GOOD IRS with GREAT shock packages, lockers and 2x4-4x4 modes

I think they would sell a lot of them, as not everyone needs a BIG full sized atv

or just for smaller riders, period, like kids, gals, and  or folks again that just like a smaller machine

the HP to LB on them older one's was way better too, on basic sized motors too!

but doubt that will ever happen, everyone seems to want more HP< and feel the bigger the better, (don;t even seem to care price tags grew so much too) and finance there lives away on atv's larger than they will ever need or use to there potential

but can sure brag about having it! LOL

I'll look into adding those pre-defined options to the Menubar when I find some free time @mrbb. Thanks for bringing this to our attention!

no problem, as I said, I just find it easier to find new things every time I am on, and maybe others would too, or use it like I did!

never hurts to ask I say! LOL

  24. OK thanks guys

and Retro, I know I would rather it just be a click to find than all them other steps you showed me

I just found that option on many other sites and got used to it I guess, maybe others agree, maybe not

but I vote to have it added to the site if possible

if not,  I can live without it as well I guess!
