  1. I'm gathering that. Just when I thought I was getting close.... The engine is in there but only the bear minimum. It'll only be the 3rd time I've pulled it.
  2. There’s the rod. I think it’s pic was elsewhere in first thread but I did check for bent around one point. It looked ok
  3. I’m about 1400 in to a 2000 dollar quad right now. The thought of parting it out has crossed my mind. I looked for line in cam. I have pics it appears in and others it don’t. As we started with timing I have a bunch of pics of nose.
  4. Are you talking about notch in end of cam or what looks like a blue line on sprocket? Oh. Maybe line in notch on cam? Might be. I don’t know
  5. Rebuilt Honda carb shows no improvement. I have tweaked screw in and out trying to find a better spot but nothing from 3/4 to 4 or 5 turns out matters much. Runs better at some than others but am going to keep tweaking. Will keep trying. I have a second attempt at an IV bottle rigged up. Will try that a bit later to take tank out. note in video it idles like that for 10-15 seconds and dies. If I give it any gas it dies
  6. It's a pretty standard fix. Should last forever for stripped threads....especially in an aluminum case. I'd grease up the tap so chips stick. Possibly flush some oil through teh fill plug to run it in to the pan when done to clean it out.
  7. Looks like its a thing. I've seen some of you guys talking about 300s... This Honda 16100-HM5-850 CARBURETOR ASSY. (VE91C A) fits the following models and components: Honda ATV 1998 TRX300 A - FOURTRAX 300 CARBURETOR Honda ATV 1996 TRX300FW A - FOURTRAX 300 4X4 CARBURETOR Honda ATV 1998 TRX300FW A - FOURTRAX 300 4X4 CARBURETOR Honda ATV 2000 TRX300 A CARBURETOR Honda ATV 1996 TRX300 A - FOURTRAX 300 CARBURETOR Honda ATV 1997 TRX300 A - FOURTRAX 300 CARBURETOR Honda ATV 1999 TRX300FW A - FOURTRAX 300 4X4 CARBURETOR Honda ATV 1999 TRX300 A - FOURTRAX 300 CARBURETOR Honda ATV 2000 TRX300FW A - FOURTRAX 300 CARBURETOR Honda ATV 1997 TRX300FW AN - FOURTRAX 300 4X4 CARBURETOR Honda ATV 1997 TRX300FW A - FOURTRAX 300 4X4 CARBURETOR Honda ATV 1997 TRX300 AN - FOURTRAX 300 CARBURETOR Honda ATV 1996 TRX300FW AN - FOURTRAX 300 4X4 CARBURETOR Honda ATV 1996 TRX300 AN - FOURTRAX 300 CARBURETOR This is the carb that ran successfully on my 450 for several years before something started having issues. I have to presume it had been rejetted. I can attest a Shindy 450 rebuild kit went right in to the thing. I'll take a look at the old jets, but I think my friend had rebuilt it at some point, but hte jets were dark brass...so they weren't new by any stretch.
  8. VE91C it appears. It could be a 94, not a 91. Doesn't look like it in the pic, but hints of the lower horizontal line on a '4' appears there but could be dirt as its not visible in pic at all.
  9. I'm about to go soak the one I'm rebuilding in carb clean as some of the passages are quite gummed up. I know that it has numbers on it stamped in. The other one...I'll have to try to see if the stamped in numbers are still readable. I tried to see them last night...but didn't spend a lot of time on it. But yes, they both have VE on it. That is what got me to doing a hard compare to the casting. One the casting quality is a bit worse in places....but that woudn't surprise me from even the same supplier.
  10. As an engineer who has worked on castings I can say the castings came from the same manufacturer. There’s a bird looking symbol on it that I bet is the foundry mark. I wonder if lack of air bleed is a different Honda oem carb from another model of atv. I agree with shade tree as partszilla shows all foreman carbs with it but doesn’t mean it’s not a Honda oem from something unless air bleed is on every Honda carb.
  11. Is the brass jet/plug here a orifice under the diaphragm and do I need to make sure it is clean....or is this a plug? I am not getting carb clean to go through it right now...but I had to quit for the night.
  12. Here are 2 of the carbs. One with Blue Hose is old one I got in a box with the quad. The other one is one from Ebay I just got and am working on rebuilding. Casting has all same marks on one with blue hose...just is missing the black air bleed machining. I had assumed, as it didn't have the air bleed on it, that it was a China Carb. I'm not so sure now. I can attest the float is identical to the Honda Float. Anyway, just found it interesting. Maybe an ancient aftermarket one using factory die casting. Looking at Partzilla, both the 98 and 2004 Foreman 450 has the air bleed valve. 2004 just has some extra hoses on it. My first thought was it was a later 98-2004 carb.
  13. I'll keep my posts shorter...I tend to be long winded. Thanks for the help guys. Thanks for the further suggestions Fishfiles. I have been keeping an eye on the fuel line...but the Honda carbs have a more beneficial angle than the Chinese carbs that like to point the inlet straight up. I tried to make an IV bottle last weekend but it was a miserable failure(gas everywhere).Shoulda used a pop bottle probably. I'll do that next time The honda carb I got is a bit tired, all the screws were rounded out, lots of varnish, but a good pair of vice grips and a little PB Blaster and they walked out w/o much of a fuss. Can I soak it dismantled in one of those buckets of carb clean to get the orifices cleaned out? I think they are all clear now....but a good soaking wouldn't hurt I don't think.
  14. Good info on checking oil. I assumed you screwed it in.
  15. Finally made a bit of progress. All along I have been fighting non-repeatable results. One minute it will show some improvement when I tweak something....or seem to want to run at one setting. On that same setting, at other times it won't do anything or barely start. While I wait for my Honda Carb to arrive, I have been messing with the china carbs to see if I can make anything happen. Not making much progress... While messing with this, I did a spark test. Showed a video to a mechanic and he said 'its missing'. I looked, looked again. Said 'ok, if you say so'. He said 'I say so'. So I shut off the lights in the garage, ran it again(one of those adjustable tester things with a window to view spark) and bright blue spark but bigger than ! it just drops out occasionally. So I checked the ground to the coil(he informed me I needed to remove the wire from the coil....I had forgotten that). Evidently even though its a brand new Honda harness, somewhere, either previous owner or i, we broke the wires in that negative wire. I have now grounded it directly to the frame with a different jumper wire. Last night, after doing that, I have a quad that will at least repeatedly start and idle. It used to idle for maybe 3-5 seconds and die at its best. Now it gets out to 10-15 seconds before it dies. I have also had it sounding like it 'wants' to rev. Typically, though...as soon as I try to blip the throttle, it dies. On that note, while I tried to tweak the pilot screw(didn't seem to make any difference on how it wanted to run) the exhaust almost got hot enough to burn my arm...which I chucklked was 'real progress'... On a side note, the mechanic I'm working with said 'I don't like working with aftermarket stuff, its hard to get it running as good as factory with it'...so that is yet another point that the aftermarket carbs aren't worth the time... So back to chasing fuel and running pig rich....my Honda carb will be here tomorrow and I have the rebuild kit on the work bench.
  16. Oh. Compression with valves set right is 125 now
  17. nope. Was just wondering. Screwing around til Honda carb gets here with 2 China carbs I have.
  18. Got the carbs apart. What is the purpose of the little baffle plate under the float? Keep fuel close to main jet? One had it. One didn’t. (Both China carbs. My Honda to rebuild will be here next week)
  19. Thanks...I'll pick an inline filter up. I'll also clean the tank and look inside to see if I can see the petcock filter. Any way to remove the filter from the top and then just put an inline one in? I checked out the tanks....I see why no one has said 'replace the tank' WOW!
  20. As I lumber through getting my Foreman running. Just curious. Does my quad use a AC or DC CDI box. I only ask because partzilla lists both for that year(or I am assuming one is AC and one is DC but only DC one is labeled as such). I'd also like to note the price has dropped about 15-17 dollars since early June. Possibly I am jumping to conclusions and its 2 p/n's for the same thing? As the A00 references the A01 in the description with some cryptic text. "Ss Final: product/honda/30410-HN0-A01" Thanks,
  21. I did notice that one website redirected you to the 2nd gen when looking for my quad's carb. I am searching 16100-HN0-A02....the 98's is actually -A00 on Partzilla. Part Numbers you show(other than VE numbers) don't look familiar. I have found new carbs down in the 280-300 range. Several used carbs for sale right now that appear OEM, just dirty. From 48(stuck choke valve) to 115 for the carcas. The higher cost ones say 'running when torn down'. others have been sitting on a shelf.
