  1. Criminal intelligence unit there likely waiting on tow truck as daughter and I came home. anyway. Friend is after a couple others now. Some sound too good to be true.
  2. On that Polaris. Drove by seller on way to get daughter from HS. 2 cops with lights on with it sitting on a trailer behind truck. Something went down. Suspect it was stolen. It’s not a great area. Lots of meth and shady stuff happens there
  3. Friend just went and looked at a Polaris Explorer 400. Guy wanted 600 for it. Friend said the guy had torn in to it, wouldn't turn over but he muttered around some. Friend said there was a rats nest of vacuum lines(2 stroke?) and he could see parts pulled off of it. Mostly whole, but guy that didn't know anything tore in to it trying to fix it and gave up. Sellign it off. Pull start was 'broken' and you couldn't test it to turn over, etc. He walked...but as he walked, another kid showed up to look at it. Guy will have it sold by evening I bet.
  4. Only wants 2k for it. 1998 Fourtrax 300 2WD. The PVC Snorkel....could have painted it black so it wasn't so obvious...but he lists it as selling point. What would such a beast sell for elsewhere in the country?
  5. ! it. I'm eyeballing front brake parts now. Wife is going to kill me. Put 5 miles on it now. I have like no brakes. Back ones owrk, but its merely a suggestion that I want to stop. Daughter is wanting to ride it too. Figure I'll let her take it for a spin before I tear the front end down(Which would be a good time to do front brakes) SuperATV is China I understand...but I have friends that work there and they're an Indiana company(I have considered working for them if my current gig goes south) for their R&D so am considering them....but their kit says not for OEM Alum Rims. I have OEM Alum Rims(from a rancher maybe? Look like steel wheels but are alum). They are sold out about everywhere anyway. HiLifter? They don't say anything about Alum, just 12", which I have. Its about a 100 more but could have the kit Friday. I assume its not worth sinking 200 in front drum brakes, but am considering it to save a few bucks right now. If I do front drum rebuild. I see a kit that has pads, seals, for like 80 bucks. I can get wheel cylinders from RM ATV for 100 it appears. So maybe 180 if I don't find other 'messes' when I pull drums off. Thoughts?
  6. I put all Honda inside the engine. Spent money where it made sense. Ok with China up front to save a few bucks and keep me rolling right now. I bet I put less than 50 miles a year on this thing on my meeger land. I will inspect and see. Be here Wednesday.
  7. Yep it does look one or 2 splines off.
  8. Think I’m gonna sign off on this thread. I have done several laps of my property and got it warm enough fan kicked on. Reverse works. I burnt my arm trying to adjust pilot screw. Just can’t get it. Did get it to turn some and it’s running pretty good. My little tach/dvom is useless. It says 2400 rpm but it won’t idle below 2k on that. Thinking of pulling carb to see where it’s at and going from there. overall though preparing to put plastic back on tonight/tomorrow. have had constant oil smoke off of head. Did a quick watch while idling. I don’t see a leak. Thinking it is just oil burning off of head. Last spirited jaunt there was less smoke greeted me. thanks again. I’m ecstatic after wanting one for 30 yrs.
  9. I ordered a kit off amazon. Pivot works... https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007S0KG3Q/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I noted some were sealed bearings and some weren't. Quick check of the Honda manual mentioned greasing them. So figured the unsealed were factory.
  10. After 8 weeks of dealing with the engine. Never been more happy to dig in to something else on the quad. When I got it all bolted back together to take it for a test drive yesterday....reconfirmed my suspicion that the front wheel bearings are likely shot on both sides. When you push side to side, you can see the CV shafts 'wobbling' independent of the spindles. I presume this isn't normal. From looking at the diagram of how it goes together. I can't fathom its normal. Hoping the spindles are OK. Not somethign you'd notice, I don't think, unless you did it w/fenders off like it is now. So I ordered a set of seals and wheel bearings. I 'think' the ball joints are all OK. I'll inspect them as I do wheel bearings. Should I order new circlips too? I saw some kits came with them. So what am I in for? Assume I have to separate the spindle from the ball joints? Pull circlip. Slide/hammer out bearing. New seals, Grease, put back together. Good as new? Thanks oh gurus of foreman's. 98 Foreman 450S for those that haven't seen the drama in the engine forum. I am going to take a gander at the brakes, but don't think I"m going to mess with them right now. Start saving pennies for a disk brake upgrade. Right now I have 0 front brakes. Greg
  11. Does that one have a shaft running from the back like my 450? If the cam thing back(That connects the foot shifter to the main shift shaft that we see coming out in the pic) at the shifter input got bent due to somone standing on it or dropping the engine w/foot shfter still on it....would that cause this? Mine also has some spring plates and things on the front side of the case nestled in behind the clutch that I don't see here. Presume its just a different design from an earlier era?
  12. With as bad as the oil pump was...it ran w/o oil for quite a while(although I bet it sucked up a piece of screen which may have caused some of the heat). I don't really think a filter in backwards would cause the pump to do that, as it would still have oil going through it and spitting out pressure relief. I think it flat ran w/o any oil in the sump. What the ! caused the screen to do that, man, I have no idea. I can't even fathom. I'd be looking for a used crank on ebay. I had good luck getting mine rebuilt by Vince.... I also put a dial indicator on the output shaft of mine to see if it was bent or not. I got like 0.001" of runout on the tail for your reference. If your ransmission is like the one on my 450. It almost looks like chunks shift dogs that may have sheered off when a bearing seized or maybe just from the heat. Good luck,
  13. Yep, piecing it back together now. Got the cooling fan on. Going to have to figure out some of the rest of the bits as I go...but engine and transwise. It seems OK. Got it up in to 4th or 5th gear tonight. Thanks for Shade's help as well as everyone else that gave suggestions. I'm going to take tomorrow off and try to get the carb adjusted and finish putting body panels back on. Wife and daughter just laughed at me...but aren't surprised. Its supposed to be gorgeous in my area tomorrow. 80ish, low humidity and 'these' problems have been a long time coming.
  14. yep. No more smoke out tailpipe. Thanks. I will change oil after I get it going good. Got fan bracket now. Wasn’t sure how critical fan is. Good to know
  15. Just took maiden voyage(I don’t have cooling fan on it yet). About 2-3 min in started burning off oil from somewhere so hightailed it back to garage. Put box fan blowing on it again. Checked for leak. Nothing obvious. But letting it cool then will check it more. Likely just oil remnants from head seems to run ok. Shifted in 1-2 fine. I’m sure carb needs tweaked a bit but just trying it out. gotta run to previous owners house. Shorted me a fan bracket. He found it on his bench.
  16. Longer video. White smoke is gone thankfully. Have run it a minute several times lightly Revving it The front diff is in with shaft hooked up. I think front wheel bearings are shot. It rocks side to side on those. Next project is to go through front end.
  17. Trying to adjust pilot screw is a pain! My ham hocks are too big. got air box on. It’s blowing white smoke out tail pipe. Hope it clears up with seating of rings. Other than that it’s doing great. No test drives yet had a constant stream of people in and out today so didn’t get as far as I wanted.
  18. this thing I presume. Looking at it bet it solves problem.
  19. How’s this fuel line routing look? I dislike fact it’s almost sitting on fin on head but it’s nicely downhill. Debating tying it up with zip tie to ensure it never droops to head
  20. sorry. Shade said you guys were trying to figure out why my exhaust was so bright. Previous owner just left and he said it was high heat silver that turned gold. I repainted it black this morning.
  21. Shade was first to know but.... Gotta hook it up rest of the way but pretty excited. Shade heard ticking but I gotta come down off cloud nine before I check it out. Plus need to seat rings Oh. Note black pipe Shade and Fish. Got rid of gold as I wasn’t a fan!
  22. It’s home. Now time to hook it up. Workbench is much cleaner
  23. yep. It was plugless. Brand new starter mostly. Yep. Had oil in it. Couple quarts. Will add more in frame to top it off
  24. All together with valves adjusted. Realized leak I thought I had around exhaust valve was assy oil I put in valve guide. Rechecked it and no leakage. here is it cranking on bench. No signs of binding up I was feeling. I noticed when I got centrifugal clutch on front that mass seemed to even it out. sound normal to you guys?
