  1. We have been getting hit with about everything this week. Rain, sleet, ice, snow and then repeat with a little thunder and repeat and finally it just settled to snow but the wind came with it (37mph w/ 50mph gusts) and that is suppose to continue into Friday. We needed the moisture though, badly. I'm glad we are out of the tornado season, you guys stay safe.

    The bad apples ruined it for everyone. When I sold stuff I got tired of the no shows that said they would take it (waste a day waiting on someone) or the ones that show just to complain about everything I told them about the stuff. I got to the point of very seldom selling anything and what I do, it's first come first serve. I do make a few exceptions for long distance buyers only if there is really good phone conversations so I know they are committed and on the road to come get it.

    My son actually got sick with Campylobacteriosis after working cattle. They said it was most likely from the cattle as that was the most common factor. Throwing calves and pushing cows stuff is flying everywhere so yes, it could be possible. It doesn't stop us from doing it and it only happened once, to just him (his type 1 diabetes possibly made him more acceptable??) but everything in this world can make us sick.

     

    If that flock of geese in the pictures happened to fly over you there is probably a good chance you might get some droppings on you. The chance of catching an illness from that are slimmer than slim though.

     

    The finger pointers don't know how clean we live out here and reversing the effects from gases they are worrying about (that they themselves are causing and doing nothing but pointing fingers). That one person with a 5x5 rooftop garden isn't doing nothing like the one person with 600 aces of corn. All the crops we plant, land management practices when grazing cattle, planting trees, planting flowers for the bees and butterflies and list goes on. BUT, I prefer them not knowing our way of life. When they do happen to come visit they want to stay and bring their ! ways with them. I'm lucky enough the cold usually chases them out of our area. lol

    I've done it once or twice but the cooler doesn't always keep them from freezing.

     

    The short run times are the problem. Is it really milky looking or just a trace? In those old machines your probably not going to hurt a thing but it's still not the best practice. I would try to run it long enough so it has a chance to evaporate some of the moisture off. Even if it's only once a week, get it good and warm working it.

  5. I would go ride it so it's under good pressure and work the front brakes since you can pump them up to get the to work. Then come back and readjust the shoes and if needed bleed them again. My guess is the shoes haven't found "home" allowing them to be adjusted correctly. Blocking off one side forces the fluid to just one to overcome this instead of sharing it between both sides.


  6. I'm lucky enough to not have to worry about meeting people where I ride. If I do, they are not suppose to be there. I have no idea if they make the Honda specific base for the bulbs though so I'm no help there. Extreme snorkels use to have a kit that was plug and play but it was $$$$ back in the day. I opted to light bars since they are so cheap and if by chance I have to ride it down the road I can turn off the light bar (which you might as well just pull over and stop because the stock candles might as well be off) if I meet a vehicle. 


  7. I think the neutral switch is internal on these. On the top side of the sub transmission area there should be a single wire coming out of the case that is the neutral wire. They will ohm to ground when in neutral to trigger the light, power comes from the ignition. I can't get specific since I never did work on a lot of these little machines and when I did, it was a long time ago.

  8. It's not very common but I have seen the bolts work loose on the stator/flywheel and cause this. Where your getting complete revolutions one way but not the other I'm going to guess the problem is in the bottom end, not the top. Everything is just a guess though until the problem is found. Did you happen to get the story of what they was doing when it quit?

  9. I think this has been posted on here before and "clean" enough but it fits the thread. All the real life photos are not clean enough, if I could find them. It's been years since I went to Sturgis.

  10. @CadeH Also with those gears removed shift it manually to make sure it returns by itself to the mid position. If the shift stop/return bolt broke internally it can do some weird things causing damage elsewhere. Just things to check so your only fixing it once

     

    The shift motor is 31300-HP5-601 but your replying faster than my internet connection is letting me. lol

    @toodeep I was driving and the rpm’s just went up and the bike started to slow. I looked at the display and is was just a dash. I stopped but the bike was still running. I tried to shift it with the buttons but it would not do anything. So I turned off the bike and it would not start back up. So I brought it home checked the battery and it looked good but I charged it overnight. I got up the next day and still nothing so I got the manual tool and was able to get it into neutral. Then I was able to get the bike started but when I tried to shift it into drive with the buttons the green “N” would disappear and then return. So that is where I am stuck…

     

    You replied while I was typing all the steps to check things. If the internal magnets broke it was probably just the shift motor. If things look a little rough I would check the shift reduction gears also.


  12. Welcome to the forum. The shift arm on the right side stays in place when the shaft is pulled out so you don't have to worry about that. I would ohm test the three yellow wires on the stator to make sure one of the gouges didn't do some damage. You will have continuity between all 3 wires themselves and none to ground, or with the cover off where the stator bolts onto the side cover.

    Could they replace the banjo bolt with one with a built in pressure switch? Those use to be around $10 when i used them for brake light switches and easy to swap out.

  14. The 72 inch would probably work in light snow but with any a good amount or good heavy snow the machine won't handle it weight wise. I run the 60 inch on the 4 wheelers and at times it will move the machine around. I've had the 72 turn my MUV BigRed sideways too many times to mention. You probably have a good size to work in all conditions.

     

    We are barely getting enough snow to cover the ground, in some places. My BigRed is ready, the 4 wheeler is ready and hopefully Monday the little things left on the pickup plow are here and it's ready when it does get here.

     

    If using the winch only for plowing a flat strap is the way to go. I use mine for recovery as well as the plow so I deal with the wear it puts on the cables. For me the synthetic cable lasted longer than steel.
