AKATV 851 Posted March 11, 2021 Saw someone on other site said the watercooled engines all have Nikisil bores I was like wait-what? after just honing out my Foreman 500 watercooled bore..... I thought maybe all watercooled 2 strokes or something...maybe Is there a reference to determine this I couldn’t find anything in service manuals Do ANY of our wheelers commonly have a Nikisil bore? Fishfiles 20,147 Posted March 11, 2021 I don't know a lot about Nikisil coating , have read where it is a couple of thousandths of a nickel / carbon alloy coating sprayed into the bore then honed , I thought it was a two stroke thing but read Jaguar and BMW are using it , when it wears thru the coating the jug would have to be re-coated or replaced , seems popular in 2 strokers , but has a tendency to flake off around the ports
jeepwm69 7,751 Posted March 11, 2021 650 RIncons were Nikisil. None of the other Honda utility wheelers are.
jeepwm69 7,751 Posted March 11, 2021 Easiest way is to look at schematics and see if they offer oversized pistons for a particular machine. If they don't, you can figure it's Nikisil. If they offer oversized pistons for it, it's not Nikisil.
AKATV 851 Posted March 11, 2021 Hi Jeep Thanks for clearing that up I was pretty sure they weren’t ,but wasn’t sure, as this same guy was saying his Rancher 420 had a Nikisil bore.... I just got this 12 Foreman 500 and wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing something
_Wilson_™ 6,593 Posted March 11, 2021 thanks jeep, 1st I've heard about this coating, sounds like this is for high performance engines. http://blog.brushresearch.com/engine-hones-for-nikasil-cyllinders
